Pruning Up Some Succulents, The Bonsai Zone, June 2024

  • I'm pruning up two of my Jade bonsai, my Crassula sarcocaulis and my Crassula tetragona. I also prune my Copper Spoon plant (Kalanchoe orgyalis) for the second time.

    That last plant kind of looks like the head of a giraffe after the pruning

    Kalanchoe. In America the e is silent, but in England it is pronounced.

    Nice looking succulent at the end. Pruning to keep it small will be the challenge

    I’ve never been much for succulents but you’ve changed my mind😁 I think my next tree will be a variegated jade😊 I already have a small desert rose that I bought this spring😁

    The jades are pruned into your ideas of how you want them to grow. They will develop into some nice trees this growing season. That azalea has some spectacular flower color.

    Botanical name for Copper Spoons is Kalanchoe orgyalis :)

    The succulents are growing! The succulents are growing!! I should be able to get mine out to the trailer soon. They can take the cooler temperatures! Great trees Nigel! That copper spoon is really fascinating! Are the leave leathery feeling?

    its a kalanchoe right nigel? kă″lən-kō′ē, kə-lăng-kə-wē″, kă′lən-chō″ (google said) "cal en kowy" or klancho is how i always pronounced it. there are 1000s of varieties of them. ive tried to make a few into bonsai, they make great house plants
