      @@jerrywelch1370 agree, Sierra TGK for me too. The Bergers are made to fragment after about 4” of penetration, so any shot into heavy muscle or bone might not work too well, or just destroy a lot of good meat at the least.

    @donl4914 2 года назад +7

    I say the Sierra TGK. I've reloaded my 243 with Sierra most of my life and would choose this round over the rest.
    Best grouping is always more useful than just the heavier bullet. 9 gr is not enough to make a huge difference.
    Bullet placement will always bring home the trophy.

    The Sierra looks like money to me. 100gr is plenty sufficient for deer. Sierra is my personal favorite. Bullet performance as well as accuracy, can't go wrong. Probably 98% of my handloading is with Sierra Gameking.

      @@WHOTEEWHO I would definitely go Sierra TGK or with the GMX. If the toughness of the bullet matters, those 19gr the Berger has more than the GMX, will be lost within an inch or two of penetration. The GMX being monolithic will keep its weight right through, which is why it's one of the most popular among South African and Namibian PH's.
      But if you're just looking at deer, I'd say from the Winners Pile (plus the GMX) - whichever is the cheapest of the bunch will work just as well as the most expensive and no one will be able to tell the difference.

    • @ImGdiddy

      Target bullets are designed for target shooting. Hunting bullets are designed for shooting animals with inflicting terminal damage. I believe that the Berger or Sig would be the proper choice to take hunting.

    My dad has always been a big fan of Remington bullets and he used them religiously in his Enfield .303 he had, which he has since passed on to me. That having been said, my 6.5 Creedmoor, which is a Bergara B14 Ridge, fires best with Federal Fusion ammunition. Not exactly the most expensive out there. It’s like Eastwood says, “Every gun sings its own tune.” I’m sure that Core Lokt works perfectly fine in a lot of weapons. It definitely shoots beautifully through my .303. Those groups were awesome btw. I would like to see you hunt with those Sig cartridges myself. I’ve never seen how they actually function but I’ve heard good things. Thanks for an awesome video

    I would play with the Hornaday Gmx a little more. I like hyper shock "speed" and I believe that they will penetrate as far if not farther than any of them because of the construction of the bullet. Generally 90 or 95% weight retention.

    • @raleighthomas3079
      @raleighthomas3079 2 года назад +1

      I was rooting for the GMX too, that 90 gr has got to be screaming, and the copper will probably penetrate more than the heavier slugs. Remember, the long heavies are made to expand at very long range, whereas most deer are taken at 100 yds or under, I’d say the vast majority under 150 yds.
      The Barnes/GMX alloy bullets will survive the high velocity impact better than anything not bonded.

    I have 2 predators and 1 Ruger precision rifle chambered in 6mm Creedmoor. I shoot the 108 grain eld match ammo in all 3. For some reason I don't see much 6mm Creedmoor ammo in the stores. 1 store has 1 box of that Sierra stuff for $50. It has sat there since the store started selling guns and ammo. It was still there the other day, too pricey for me. The gun shop where I do must of my business has 108 grain eld's for $39 a box, that's why I shoot the 108. I also reload the 108's exclusively for the 6mm Creedmoor and I absolutely love the round. I really need to get them back to the range!

    Sierra’s or Burgers you can’t go wrong. However as a match shooter I can say that loads with more recoil/powder will open up groups. Especially when combined with a dead stop gun rest as the barrel will wip more. Sierra and Berger loads do a better job of balancing recoil vs bullet weight. I would use the Remington for short range brush hunting.

    I picked up some of that Sig stuff for my 260 Rem. (130 gr.) a while back. Mainly because it was all that was available at the time. To my surprise, it is some of the best shooting factory ammo for that rifle (Savage Apex Hunter)..........so far. Shot just a shade under 3/4 MOA with those. I have to say, I've always been on the fence about picking up a 6mm Creedmoor given I already have a 243 and a 6mm Rem. They are both tack drivers with my reloads in the 70-90 grain range, but open up with 100 grain projectiles. I'm guessing the 1:10 twists have something to do with that. This video has helped me make up mind to start building a 6mm Creedmoor so I can fling those 103gr. ELD-X's at some White Tail or Pronghorn at some longer ranges.

I killed 2 this season with Hunter Precision ELD-X 103 gr. which I like. BUT while the 8 pt only ran 40 yds and the big doe never took a step, I was disappointed to have no blood trail and only tiny exit wounds for both. I know this is partially because I went to the high shoulder brachial plexus shot! But I wonder if one of those that you put in the excellent grouping category, would create a better exit wound than the ELD-X 103 gr, or if I should switch to a CX (monolithic bullet) maybe???

Do you think it’s a big enough projectile for Alabama whitetail 200 yards and closer? I know it will drop them. I’m worried about penetration and blood trails. I hunt really thick areas and if they don’t bleed it’s nearly impossible to find them.

    Bergers just go into the deer 🦌 and fragment everywhere, not exiting the deer. My Dad has taken multiple deer, mostly does and a couple small bucks with the lead tipped 100 grain Sierra Gamekings. They work great.

    Sierra or Berger, either one will be great. I would pick the Sierra due to cost.

    I think you have to reshoot the Hornady 103 gr Precision Hunter. If you pulled that one shot then you're looking past what's best for your gun.

    Fancy shooting as always. Hunting whitetail, I'd go with the ELD-X or the tipped Sierra Game King. I rarely take shots past 200 yards and the ELD-X have proven accurate in my CZ. My rifle really likes the ELD Match. Wouldn't be my first choice for deer, but they will work. Anything bigger than whitetail, I'd probably go for the GMX or CX. Should stay together better and give more penetration. Of course, I'd step up to a 7mm-08 or 270 but among the offerings in this video, the GMX would probably have the most penetration. I like the Hornady Whitetail Interlock for a budget 6.5 choice but they don't offer it in 6mm Creed yet.

    The Sierra and the SIG were hunting bullets though, the Berger are match bullets. Says a lot when you can get great accuracy out of a hunting bullet

    Both groups are very good, but the Berger group was high, and the Sierra group was much closer to the actual POI you were aiming at... Sierra for the WINner, winner, chicken dinner!!!

    Look into sending that barreled action to 300below for cryo treatment. I was skeptical at first, but after top notch customer service and info from the company I understood what cryo treatment was all about and the benefits I was to expect from stainless and 4150 cvm materials, I sent some barrels in and couldn't be happier. Customer for life. Also their satisfaction guarantee is second to none. Then a Timney trigger of course. Happy shootingend that barreled action to 300below for cryo treatment. 6mm Creedmoor or 6.5 Grendel? Which of the two do you prefer? I want both but don't need either, since I already have a .243.

    Own this same rifle, put it in a Boyd’s at 1 stock and bedded it. This rifle consistently shoots 95 Berger loads at .75 moa and 80 grain Barnes ttsx loads at .5-.75 moa. All 5 shot groups at 100. Embarrassing part is the factory 87 vmax load from Hornady shoots 1/4-1/2 moa! Makes my loads look like crap. Anyways, 549 for gun, 259 for stock and this rifle shoots better than rifles costing 2-3 times as much. Can’t find a thing I don’t like about it, maybe put a bigger knob on the bolt? I have almost 2500 rounds down the barrel and that is all I would change. One of the best rifles produced in my opinion

    Talke all of these and shoot them again and see what the results are. You had some “Mirage” while shooting these groups and that can cause vertical groups. Good shooting.

    me personally i don,t criticize any bullets but sierra is what i judge other bullets by i have loaded them for over 40 years with good accuracy always and good performance on game i have strayed a lot from sierra but i always go back

    I'd pick the Sierra's and never look back. I'm not sold on Berger bullets in hunting applications. For shooting matches sure. But when it comes to hunting, I was a bullet designed with hunting in mind.

    You should test them for expansion. Maybe a test at 200 also you can check group and drop.
