During the lockdown I had a Filipino friend in SF who was lamenting that they couldn't find rice anywhere in the entire city. None of the Asian markets either. I told him about a big Asian market I had visited once years ago in San Jose. This dude literally drove several hours on the promise of there maybe being rice there. My friend has an Asian girlfriend . He visited his girl’s hometown to meet her family . He joined her family out on a picnic beach trip somewhere that’s far and a little out of reach from the city isolated from nearby stores and all that . They brought picnic food and started cooking and preparing with barbecue and and all that. Everything was fine until they started arguing themselves pointing fingers and distressed , he couldn’t understand what his gf her family was talking about . His gf said her brother forgot the RICE . nobody ate anything on the table , he was so hungry but was too embarrassed to pick on any of the food that was already there prepared . Everybody were waiting on the RICE issue to be solved somehow …. Food was growing cold but no one would still eat .after several hours of wait and finally solving the issue the whole family started to eat . He was so perplexed . Rice is a necessity !!!

And they are legitimately horrible with RICE. Its is often so overcooked you get little grains that are like rocks that you have to spit out. To the point that i get the super greens and ignore the rice.
And that’s the inside joke about “dont tell your grandfather”. Because we occasionally get lazy and grab their orange chicken which is like candy.
I do it a fee times a year, my parent would roll their eyes, but my grandparents (rip) would have thought i had lost my mind.

During the lockdown I had a Filipino friend in SF who was lamenting that they couldn't find rice anywhere in the entire city. None of the Asian markets either. I told him about a big Asian market I had visited once years ago in San Jose. This dude literally drove several hours on the promise of there maybe being rice there. And he was actually able to get rice there!

My friend has an Asian girlfriend . He visited his girl’s hometown to meet her family . He joined her family out on a picnic beach trip somewhere that’s far and a little out of reach from the city isolated from nearby stores and all that . They brought picnic food and started cooking and preparing with barbecue and and all that. Everything was fine until they started arguing themselves pointing fingers and distressed , he couldn’t understand what his gf her family was talking about .
His gf said her brother forgot the RICE . nobody ate anything on the table , he was so hungry but was too embarrassed to pick on any of the food that was already there prepared . Everybody were waiting on the RICE issue to be solved somehow …. Food was growing cold but no one would still eat .after several hours of wait and finally solving the issue the whole family started to eat . He was so perplexed . Rice is a necessity !!!
