After graduating my first job was with Joe Finch at Appin Pottery, in Argyll Scotland, then a subsidiary of Winchcombe, Joe was the son of Ray finch who was Cardew's apprentice and had taken over Winchcombe from the master. I only met Cardew once but he made a great impression on me, not least because he praised my teapots, telling me the they were "strong forms with both flesh and bones".
