It’s always the engine factor which comes in. With engine technology you can simply design and manufacture any aircraft(be it fighterjet, bomber , UCAV) and ADA is capable of that. It was an eye opener way back during Hal Marut days and our IAF never learnt its lesson. It’s high time India expedites the engine devt programme. 2024 being the navy year , 2025 must be airforce year to reinforce the balance of power with PLAAF + PAF combined

The common flaw in leapfrog strategies is they always assume the other leapfrogs aren't also leapfrogging during a superpower arms race - so proceed with Make In India MRFA that has 3 5G Prime contractors and 4 5G Subcontractors with most or all also 6G - to build out the domestic 4G foundation along with a few others required for any advanced G - as per iCET...

To be honest Indian Air Force is really lacking behind other major air powers in terms of Fighter aircrafts. We have not yet been able to produce light combat helicopter Prachand in significant numbers. Even after 20 plus years of being in development Tejas mark 1 fighter is not even in the number of 100 and we also a lacking the skills to build an engine which would be able to support our aircrafts

At this point with how late AMCA will be already and given that we've barely just begun its R&D, it should be reinvisioned to incorporate as many sixth gen technologies as possible even if it takes a bit longer, while an interim order for the Su-57M with flat nozzle AL51s is made to cover the fifth gen need on shorter order. Forget the MRFA, useless to spend 20-30 billion on fourth gen now. Tejas variants are still needed to affordably fill numbers, future variants should incorporate as many LO features as they affordably can such as serrated edges which china is also doing on its fourth gen now.

The suggestion to get the Airforce as a key stakeholder for heading projects (Tejas Mk2 & AMCA) should be accepted for sure.
That being said, for Tejas Mk2, a proper timeline for induction, production and delivery should be discussed by HAL with IAF.
    For eg.
    Oct 2025- Roll Out
    Oct 2026- First Flight
    Oct 2028- Orders (120 Tejas Mk2)
    Oct 2029- IOC Induction
    Oct 2031 (T+3)- FOC Induction
IAF shall request HAL to complete Tejas Mk1A production (including 97 additional Tejas Mk1A) by mid 2031- For that HAL will have to ramp up its production to 24 Aircrafts Per Annum atleast.
Tejas Mk1A and Tejas Mk2 are very essential for the IAF as they will not only replace Mig 21 but also replace Jaguars and Mirage 2000 by mid 2030s.
People who say skip Tejas Mk2 don't understand that without Tejas Mk2, there won't be any AMCA. Tejas Mk2 is the bridge to AMCA.
China started producing J20 and J31 after completing production of J10 and J16 which are 4-4.5 gen. fighters.

      2026 - first flight
      2031 - testing complete

We have neither the quantity nor the quality to match china. china will still take a few years to test, perfect and induct their 6th gen fighters. This will be the last time window we have. We must complete our AMCA, Tejas 2, indegenous engines, etc before time to not miss this time window. Also, start conceptualizing, designing, making the 6.5 gen fighters as soon as amca is ready. Make sure iaf places a big order for amca so as to make multiple production lines for amca and induct atleast 1000 amcas because the chinese are also going to induct 1000 j 20s. We must execute GE f414 deal asap with 100% tech transfer. Throw money at USA or France or Russia for the jet engine technology. Also keep working on our indegenous engine.
