I respectfully disagree… I highly doubt Jim cares more about Dylan than he does Brandon. He was just trying to help Dylan because he’s a good man and doesn’t want to see someone get taken advantage of. Keep in mind, Brandon lied about his gambling even when Jim tried helping him.

he really didn't have a problem. Brandon was perfect almost too often, so when he made a mistake, it made him more human
Brandon was just really good at hiding his imperfections from Jim. Jim trusted Brandon way too much.
