    Im a Kiwi. I like how Ireland have developed yourselves. You've centralized your approach, joined up the high-performance system, your clubs and school system, and lifted your game to no 1. Great strategy, attention to detail, and awesome players! Congrats!

      Thank you! During the early 00s we sent a lot of coaches etc done to NZ to study how you guys do things. From what I gather you were all very welcoming to them. Roll the clock on and a lot of it has been implemented just not equally to all the provinces due to difficult internal structures. Couldn't have got where we are with out the help from you kiwis, thanks again!

    An absolute legend of a man, he brought Ireland to where they are today, from inpiring youngsters as a player to leading them as a captain to training them today. Few have done so much for the game in ireland

    Excellent interview - great questions, careful listening/ empathy throughout & great rapport built in the course of the conversation which made it a very honest & interesting exploration of how different IRFU coaches melded together to coach Ireland’s best team. I loved “to feel he’s living a life worth living’” as Paul O’Donovan’s motivation for rowing, rather that worrying that he might not achieve a second Olympic Gold in Paris. It was an unpredictably rich, live, flowing hour or so. Thanks

    Ireland line out was a mess in the WC. I was at the 1/4 final's match vs AB, and Ireland couldn't even get the line out working in the warm up. I think Gary Keegan failed to get them prepared mentally.

    • @Cpchurch87
      @Cpchurch87 7 дней назад +1

      Yeah, the mental side has to be a factor. Especially with the run up to 2023. They ticked the same boxes England did in 03. Grand slam, beat NZ in the year running up to it. They looked shellshocked in the quarter. I’m really hoping the test win in SA was a turning point mentally. There was no “1 year out from a WC, weak SA team” etc etc. that was a fully loaded SA team who wanted to win, and were in a position to. We had to find a way and dig deep. Really hope it’s a turning point for this group

    • @hotbeefymcd8162
      @hotbeefymcd8162 7 дней назад +1

      And it wasn't just failing in those games. It had been failing all year, and then even gave problems in the last Six Nations. It's a massive stain on POCs record with Ireland

  • @marcmcdonald48
    @marcmcdonald48 7 дней назад +1

    Lineout gap was not existent at times in WC!
    Communication between ref's & the Vice or co-captaincy affected Irish abilities to have receptive approaches to referees.
    Getting messages to Captain's from the sidelines then on to the referees so incidents can be checked is crucial.

    I love POC and he'll always be a legend. But I'm not sure he's next head coach material. Maybe Simon Easterby or Ronan O'Gara?
    Our lineout was a big problem last year, especially in the world cup. It was painful. And could've been the difference.
