- The Ford 8N was one of the most popular tractors on American farms - but Jimmy Deakins of Tennessee has outfitted his 1952 8N in a way that was NEVER done before! The 8N was built from 1947 to 1952, and back in the day, you could boost the power of your 8N tractor to over 100 HP with a Funk Conversion. Jimmy took his power boost a step further by dropping in a flat-head 8-Cylinder Cadillac engine. For sure, Jimmy Deakins puts his own spin on his case of Classic Tractor Fever!

Had an old neighbor that was the local weld shop, and he put a 289 Ford in a WC Allis and when he got it together it would do over 50, on the maiden voyage he passed a woman in a Volkswagen Beetle and she about ran off the road, loved hearing him tell that story.
Being from a family of Ford tractor guys i must say this 8N is one bad ass piece!! I'd love to drive it.
This really brought back memories for me. I had a friend, ex brother in law, who was a huge fan of the 8N Ford tractor. He would buy and resell them as a hobby, and he had literally owned many dozens of them. He even once owned a flat head V8 ford conversion at one time. My Dad owned one that he bought new in 1952 and I spent many hours plowing, raking hay, and other chores on that little tractor. I really enjoyed this video, thanks for posting!
That is one beautiful build!
A great great Ford 8N and super nice guy, I am impressed with Mr. Jimmy Deakins ability and tenacity! He not only came up with the Cadillac engine concept, but his talent to make it look like it is a perfect fit is fantastic. Thank you for sharing this awesome story!
I don't remember his name or channel but there's a guy that's put every engine you can imagine in an 8n Ford including motorcycle engines
50 mph? He'll never have to prove his courage to me.
We clocked a 1100 Massey Ferguson back in the 60s in stock form at 45 mph and it was difficult to keep it in your lane of traffic with a 12 foot disk behind it it was a nnew tractor then
Very nice Jimmy!
Outstanding build
This man is a national treasure and should speak at schools and colleges around the country inspiring young people .
The ultimate rockabilly vehicle. It’s commendable how seamlessly he blends the Cadillac motor with the rest of the tractor.
I can imagine Wanda Jackson halling ass on it down a country road !
Totally, or Janis Martin.
Great build 👍🏻🇺🇸
Beautiful Tractor. I also never knew Cadillac made a V8 Flathead. He’s a braver man than I am to take a 8n 50 mph. Wow. Thanks for sharing this work of art.
1949 was the first year for the Overhead Valve V8 for both both Cadillac and Oldsmobile.
Oldsmobile was chosen as the Indianapolis 500 Pace Car because of this advancement.
Oldsmobile’s Engine was also a Flathead V8 prior to 1949.
That’s pretty cool!!😎
What a beautiful machine, Thank you for sharing.
You made a real performer out of an old Ford tractor. What an unusual move if I ever heard of any. Ford tractors were always so good. Keep up the good work.
I love this tractor!
That Ford 8N is a sculpture. Just a beautiful creation. Most enjoyable to witness. Greetings from Ontario, Canada.
The year they featured Ford at Badger Steam and Gas Engine show at Baraboo Wisconsin, a guy brought a 8N Ford, that he had installed a V12 Lincoln engine in it. It ran super smooth and looked like a work of art!
Looks good thanks for sharing
I only live about 10 minutes from the Gray Fairgrounds and I've never got to see this show yet. Great story Brain.
A friend of mine has a 318 in his. Nice tractor, never seen a Cadillac engine before.
Here in Louisiana those little Fords are everywhere
Love it
fine gentlemen. and a fine machine he built!
I met a girl in Gray Tennessee many years ago. She said she didn't like to drive fast, because she might get a teekit. My grandma on my mom's side lived in Tennessee.
This man is awesome.
That is great.
Love it!
Pretty cool
I would think driving that 8n at 50 mph would be like the space shuttle re entering the atmosphere.
Nice!! You sure did a great job!
My dad and I put a Cadillac engin in my 79 f250 it was pretty cool
I need to do that to mine. I could get my lawn done in no time.
That 8N might be the fastest classic tractor in the world
I would love to have an 8n but keep it original. I assumed Cadillac used the Chevy straight-6 and didn't know they had a flat V8. It certainly is a beautiful and unique tractor.
The 47 Cadillac was a 346 Cu In. v8 not originally called a flathead it was known as the side valve v8 and were rated @ 150HP ive rebuilt a few of these years ago
Looks to have the Sherman, over/under transmission. That would explain the 50mph.
We put a 454 big block in our buddy’s 2N and he plows with it and he pulls a 4-16
Workmasnip is inpressive looks factory 😊 ❤
Would be super to see that pulling a sled
Wonder if that has the Sherman transmission in it. Have one in my jubilee
It's the combination hi/low transmission
Though I don't know what speed it's dapable of, I've seen one a guy in Monroe, Michigan put a aircraft Turbine engine in. It's pretty cool.
Way to go...
The neatest "conversion" I have ever seen was a John Deere G with a 392 Chrysler Hemi.
He did a nice job on this one though and I have never seen a flathead Caddy engine either.
Also learned today that Chrysler made a 354 with a poly head.
I would like to see that with an implement on back and working. Also, if anyone remembers, Henry Ford's first vehicle venture was a company that became Cadillac (I can't remember the name off hand)
So I think it's just fine that an 8N is powered by Cadillac.
A bored machinist can do amazing things!
Kinda ironical but Henry Ford also founded the company that became Cadillac
For those that want to know...
Cadillac was formed from the remnants of the Henry Ford Company. After a dispute between Henry Ford and his investors, Ford left the company along with several of his key partners in March 1902. Ford's financial backers William Murphy and Lemuel Bowen called in engineer Henry M. Leland of Leland & Faulconer Manufacturing Company to appraise the plant and equipment in preparation for liquidating the company's assets. Instead, Leland persuaded the pair to continue manufacturing automobiles using Leland's proven single-cylinder engine. A new company called the Cadillac Automobile Company was established on August 22, 1902, converting the Henry Ford Company factory at Cass Street and Amsterdam Avenue. It was named after French explorer Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac, who had founded Detroit in 1701.
Good day from Ontario. Boy at 50 mph it must be r unning close to 5000 rpm Thanks
You adjust the front end to stop the shimmy on any wide end tractor
Wondering what the displacement of that engine is ?
How does clutch hold up?
50 mph?! I'll bet flying down the road in that 8n would make your neck hair stand right up!
That’s what happens when you give a blue-collar shot monkey time off from work!
I wonder does his boss know how many parts he made for that tractor at work?🤣🤣🤣
I've seen a vaddy flat head before
a chevy motor in an old ford tractor? capitol idea! those ford motors are nothin but trouble!
I have a ford 8N with a 302 v8 220 HP with high range , to achieve 50 MPH you would have to be running over 5000 RPM , I personally don’t think that engine is capable of doing that , maybe I am missing something.?
👍
346 cu in, 150 hp.
They don't make them like they used to, and that's rather saddening.
I've seen these models before but it was old and rusty
That's not a 1952 Ford 8N. It was a Ford 8N at one time but not anymore. Why do people like to ruin things??
They're nice tractors but you never seen that tractor pulls for one reason
Caddy, because Fix Or Repair Daily…Found On Rubbish Dumps. Good move.
So it's more or less USELESS! just something to look at!! Afraid to get it DIRTY!! a useless "FORDILAC"
For anyone interested in the Cadillac engines this might help... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadillac_V8_engine
