I don’t comment on channels very often but I came here to thank you for how much you inspired me. I was in an unfulfilling job doing repetitive tasks that I didn’t like because I had to pay for my lifestyle. I was so unhappy that I decided to quit the job and go back to freelancing. I moved to a smaller place half the price of the rent I was paying, cut down spending and now I am able to work part time and even though I make half of what I was doing, I can easily make ends meet. I was wasting money on cafés, restaurants and shopping sprees because I was unhappy. Now that I am happy and fulfilled, I don’t need much.

I have been forgoing eating out and using that money to buy plants and maintain my garden. Each time I look out and see how beautiful it’s looking I smile. I don’t actually miss the takeaway food now because having a peaceful, beautiful garden means more to me.😊

I do this purge thing every year and then just get more stuff. Your videos have been really inspiring in making me think about my things differently so I can clean out once and for all. (My roommate is a hoarder, though, so it is difficult. I have to sneak things out of the house or he wants to "hang on to it" downstairs in his area. I once had to store an entire box of VCR tapes in the garage for a year so he would forget they existed before I got rid of them. We hadn't had a VCR player in about seven years at that point!)
I did a fun January experiment where I bought as little at the grocery store as possible, just fresh vegetables/fruit and milk, and used up all the items in my freezer and pantry. I am still not through it all!

Well done! 🙌 Yeah we had some good old VHS movies as well a few years ago but got rid of them in a bigger decluttering session. These days you can rent online all those films anyway if you ever want to rewatch them 😄 I think setting some boundaries and having an open conversation when it comes to is healthy, especially if you plan to live with someone long term

I don't buy much because I'm 71 and before I make a purchase, I ask myself, "Will this item outlive me?" 😊 I have enough clothing to last me the rest of my life. I'm saving money and already live a frugal lifestyle. You are a wonderful influence. I subscribed and will share with my daughter.

I've become aware of the triggers of my shopping addiction quite a while ago, but I was only able to cut down the urge to buy something, after I got diagnosed with ADHD and finally understood what built up stress in my body/mental health and the urge to sooth it with a rush of dopamine. Hang on - to all fellow people going through the same struggle :)

I have been refurbishing an old property in a countryside small town (returning to my hometown after 20 years) for the past 2-3 years now.
I had to be (at times - like currently - extremely) frugal to make it happen. This is my investment into the future, into my own choice of "retirement", the way of life I intend to live. By creating a low-cost, sustainable and partially self-sufficient home and lifestyle.
I wont be offgrid, as our government has unfortunately done a lot in recent years against solar, wind ect. alternatives being legally and financially accessible for private housholds. But I do better insulation, I plan on low cost usage (electricity, ect) a minimalist household, I plan and prepare for alternate ways of heating/cooling, drying.
The property's location, otientation, stability and natural materials were all the main checkpoints when buying it, to be a healthy and efficient living environment. Im in the 3rd year of the 5 year plan spending on the living areas and I also planned 10 years (another 5) for the surroundings, side buildings, the semi-selfsustainable fruit- and vegetable garden in the back yard. Including the ceation of an attractive, confy garden for social gatherings on the front yard.
I intend to reduce my regular/basic expenses as much as possible, to build the lifestyle, the food- and herb garden I could optimalise on what the place can facilitate without me overworking myself. I have lots of plans for hobbies and for learning (actually I keep learning a lot already through the whole project) and I intend to keep devoloping, improving on habits and skills.
The plan is, that once it is working, I open it up (and even in the making inviting all those locally who are interested) and make it available and accessible for those who are interested or are in need.... and building local community around it.
These might sound big words, but I imagine it working itself out a rather natural way, not forcing anything, rather allowing things to happen and attract by example. I have lots of ideas ie. allowing the nearby school for children with special needs to visit the foodgarden regularly...
Or letting the front/relaxing garden to be used for thai-chi and yoga classes from spring to autum. And maybe also using it on summer evenings as a location for private gatherings, gardenparties.... chello evening, movie-nights...
Im close to moving in this year and cannot wait to make it all happen. :)
When and as my plan works out, I intend to leave my job at a multi (working from home remotely) around 50 and make my low-cost living out of what I have built.
Maybe taking some of my garden produces to the local market sometimes, also doing different services in the town, like house-sitting, pet-sitting, running other properties during the holiday season ect. whatever I could make some living out of (even it is seasonal or ad-hoc) and enjoy it the same time.
We will see how it works out. Im a single lady of 45 now. I wont have my own family now for different reasons. But intend to be an aunty, a granny (or just a good neighbour) for all who need it :D
Your vid just came to me now at a time (and on a day) when my resiliance have been challenged (mainly on prioritising while running low on funds and patience) :)
It is something for me to grab, something to remind me that I am doing the right thing for the right reasons and only need to hold on, endure a bit longer. Thank you for that!

If one is a bit of a people-pleaser, it is hard to become a firm "no-sayer" at first, at least it was for me, but by and by people realise what to expect, and not expect from me, and it becomes much easier. But to be true to oneself, I have noticed, it is is a must, to tell "no!" I don't really want to do it. I felt lousy when a dear friend dreamt up a fantastic trip to Greece, and I felt compelled to honestly tell her, I was not tempted at all, it was neither about money nor time, I have enough if I prioritize. Truthfully: I have travelled enough and prefer to stay at home, because here in all simplicity, I feel the happiest. In the end I felt relieved that I stood up for me.

Thank you Seve for keeping us in line with reminders.
I grew up planting my own gardens, canning & freezing foods.
I forage for berries & greens.
I learned how to sew as a child to fix clothing or make clothing.
Another good idea to save money is when your toothpaste tube gets at the end & you think you can't get anymore out cut it in half & you will have another 2 to 3 brushings worth left.
I should write a little book on small ways to save.

This video is so insightful even for a person who already considers themselves frugal. For me, it started with not buying more clothes (I had way more than enough) and then, slowly, it's spread to all areas of my life. Maybe the first move created a cascade (all the steps you mention) that I couldn't escape, but now I'm so thankful for that :')

I did this in 2017/2018 and it was so worth it. I do need to revisit it to make sure I'm not mindlessly spending in dribs and drabs (which really add up!). I used to be in debt and sometimes worrying about making rent, but I haven't felt like that in years which was EXTREMELY freeing. It's amazing how much more money I have now!

Indeed, that is huge! That's also one of my big three. The others: transport - transition to travel less and more consciusly, slowly, locally. Biking was for decades my central idea. One might count on it: you can by another bike every month if you skip a car, it could be a cheap used or a fancy one, but regardless, you save a lot. Of course nobody buys a new bike every month, but save a lot instead. Housing: you can live *cosely* in a smaller and more affordable space. For me a clean (no pollution of any kind), safe, well-situated place, is much more important than a large home, but confess: I love to have a washing-machine of mine own, not to share with other sloppy households, that's too annoying. 😀 Valerie, I wish you many lovey moments with fika and hygge at home, or pic-nic! It's the best! Greetings from Sweden.
