In summer 2017 Romanian librarian Avram Iancu swims the entire length of the Danube river in Europe [2860 km / 1777 miles] without neoprene suit, for the first time in the world. An adventure story that shows the extreme determination needed to overcome dramatic moments. From the cold and clear waters of the Danube springs in Germany, to the endless expanses of the Danube Planes in Romania, it’s a story of continuous physical and psychological struggle, mixed with all sorts of emotions. Avram’s inspiration for this project came after reading the Jules Verne novel “The Danube Pilot”. At the starting point of the adventure, everything was amazing. But very soon the weather got worse and Avram had a terrible fight with the cold waters. Hypothermia almost made him quit. He did found the strength to go on but then he hurt himself terribly in a stump. So he continued the swim with a painful injure in his chest. Also, because of the great number of dams that are constructed on the Danube, the initial plan of swimming the river in two months, was delayed and Avram ended up swimming for three months. After two weeks of fighting the shallow and cold waters of the higher Danube, Avram was very happy to meet the first ship and finally reach the point where the Danube is deeper and becomes a real waterway. But that joy was short lived, as barges quickly became a real danger and he had to avoid them all the time. This journey was not just about adrenaline and dramatic moments, as Avram reached Linz, lots of fellow Romanian immigrants waited for him on the shores. And their reunion was a quite emotional one. Powerful storms, high waves and even dense mist, could not stop the librarian to keep swimming till the Black Sea. But perhaps the strongest battle was the psychological one. As the final days of the journey where extremely hard and all the members of the expedition where on the brink of insanity. The whole story is about pushing the human limits to the maximum and proving that any of us is capable to fight his own limits.
ABOUT THE FILM DIRECTOR
Sabin Dorohoi is a film director & producer from the western part of the Transylvania Region (Romania). In 2013 he founded WTS - Western Transylvania Studios, a production company in the western part of Romania, to provide full production services for international projects from Western Europe or US. He produced acclaimed short films and documentaries, selected and awarded in film festivals around the world: Hollywood, Cannes, Palm Springs, Geneva, Montpellier, Capalbio, Reykjavik, Chicago, Geneva, Rome, Berlin, Paris, Vilnius, San Francisco, Regensburg, Mexico and many more. He was the first ever Romanian director who had footage from one of his films screened live in Eurovision Song Contest Viena 2015, with an audience of 180 millions TV viewers all over the planet.

What a beautiful documentary. Two years ago I swam 620km through the river "Elbe" in Germany. I can only imagine how hard it was for you to master the psychological challenges on the "big river". Great respect.
