@@junsambajon6981 the fact that ea has not changed significantly since madden 13 shows that they need someone to compete with. In those old 2k football games you had to makes sure your qbs feet were in the right position to throw an accurate pass. In madden the are 2 or three routes that are gimme almost always gets you at least a first down, not in those old 2ks. If you call a certain d the offense would adjust and audible. If i hadnt been so ignorant, i wouldve realised those late 90s Quarterback clubs games looked so much more realistic than Madden. I'm sure I played a PC game in the mid to late 90s that could be best described as looking like Game Day 98. There was a first person mode and you could practice plays. I would kick field goals over and over again. I played a game in the early 90s (it was likely from the 80s) on PC where you just chose the play and you would be told how it went by text. There was an early 90s Tom Landry game too.
tecmo super bowl on nes, tecmo superbowl 3 on snes, madden 2005 and 2k5 will always be my top favorites. Me and my buddy played the hell out of madden 94 and the joe montana games too. Still miss nfl gameday on playstation and nfl qb club 96 on snes
I'm looking for a DOS football game released some time before 1993. It had a field drawn on the screen horizontally, somewhat in style to the games from the 70's shown here. You would enter plays by numbers, something like 1 for run, 2 for pass, etc. etc.. The play was entirely simulated, and the progress of the play was drawn on the field. No players were drawn, and you didn't get to control anything during the play. Does anyone know the title or developer?
Played madden, gameday, qb club, blitz, and ncaa depending on whose house I was at. All around the same time period and they were all fun. I hate the monopoly on football games. Don't think anything was quite as awesome as Madden 01 on PS2 when it first game out though.
As a 50 year old, Tecmo Super Bowl (1991) was my jam! I was never a Buffalo Bills fan but I always used team because Jim Kelly was accurate and Thurman Thomas always came through for me on the ground.
crazy how good ball phsysics look of the 2k games.... Sega really had something there. i cant understand why no game until today can get this as good as 2k did ?
Madden 18 was the last Madden game where I thought “Wow, this looks a lot better than before” Honestly 15 was the last BIG jump in my opinion. Gameplay though, it’s been hit and miss
That's how I felt at Electronics Boutique when I got to play the demo of NFL Quarterback Club '99, then once again seeing NFL 2k and then Madden NFL 2001 about a year later
3:00. Guys, let's be honest. The FPS series are amazing. I played 95, 97, and 98 and these games prove the following. The potential of electronic entertainment is infinite. If compared to a soccer game, it is at the level of combining Pro Evolution Soccer and Football Manager. Playing is like PES. PRE, play editor, GM, etc. are all shocking.
1987 Tecmo Bowl was LIGHTYEARS ahead of any previous football game visually. Everything up until then looked like stick figure monsters. That was the first "actually looks like football" game.
The last game I played (for console) was Madden 64. Thankfully, I haven't played any of the new ones, having to spend extra dollars to play am incomplete game.
I’m glad you included Super High Impact football! It may not have been an NFL-licensed game, but it was the most fun. It wouldn’t be considered appropriate today because of some of the over-the top cartoon violence, such as a player rolling on the turf clutching his knee and moaning in pain, and the player who was hit so hard the uniform and pads exploded off his body. The Mike Ditka lookalike who “dropped trou” when your team made a bad play and the scantily-clad dancers/cheerleader might also have been axed. Even though the graphics are ancient by today’s standards, SHI was actually somewhat ahead of its time, and it is still a fun game to play at retro arcades.
I had so many football games when I was younger. Techmo Bowl was my favorite, but I played NES Play Action Football the most. I can remember that came so vividly.
So many FUN football games in the early 90's...Mutant League Football, the Joe Montana Sports Talks, Front Page Sports Football ( Career mode, design plays, levels to injuries), heck, Madden was still fun...so long as nobody picked Detroit or Dallas. Barry and Emmett Smith were comically, controller throwing unstoppable. LOL
After the video on the evolution of basketball games, here is a video that traces the evolution of American FOOTBALL games since 1972. Have you played these games? Which one is your favorite? Do you know any other FOOTBALL games not listed here?
Played quite a few. Jerry Glanville's Pigskin Footbrawl (Genesis) ESPN NFL Primetime 2002 (PS2?) NCAA College Football 2K2 Road to the Rose Bowl (Dreamcast) Mutant Football League (Xbox One) Those are just off the top of my head. Sorry if I mistakenly added any that were in the video which I overlooked.
Football games I had played in my gaming life; Tecmo Super Bowl (my first) Madden 96 Madden 2000 (favorite) NFL Blitz (ps1/XBLA) Madden 2001 Madden 2002 Kurt Warner Arena Football ESPN NFL 2K5 (favorite) Madden 06 Madden 07 Madden 15 Madden 18
Cyberball was sick. I remember my friends and I stack $30-$40 worth of quarters at the arcade and run tournaments for a full day. It was right around the time when arcade companies were trying to pry 50 cents out of your hand for each game, so they needed to become more creative. Cyberball was able to achieve it with its dual screens on opposite sides of the machine.
I played Intellivision NFL Football back in the day. You had to put a 4 number code in for each formation. NFL Challenge was a fun game for its time. Original Tecmo Bowl for NES and Tecmo Superbowl for NES were the Gold Standard. TV Sports football for the Turbo Grafx 16 was fun. Bill Walsh College Football was a favorite. NFL 2K5 might have been the best game out there when PS3 was the main next gen console. My dad and I used to play a PC game (Can't remember the name) that you had to put a game plant together based on % of types of plays you run (i.e. inside runs, outside runs, short passes, long passes, and who on your team and what % of time you would run them or throw to them)
In my opinion NFL 2K5, Madden 06, and NCAA Football 14 are the greatest football games to ever exist. You could make a really good case for Madden 11 which I believe had Drew Brees on the cover. After that Madden went downhill from there. NCAA Football 06 you could make a great case for, but 14 took all things missing from previous games and expounded on it.
Deion Sanders Prime Time 97 for Sega Genesis, Madden 2001 for PS1, NFL 2K3 for PS2 and Madden 05 for PS2 were the all time best football games ever made.
Great video. It's a shame that as of right now all really have is Madden but football gaming has definitely come a long way. I'm old enough to remember playing TEN YARD FIGHT for NES and man that was rough
The 'NFL' part was probably to get the 'this is only the Worse Football' guys to quiet down. I'm pretty sure the channel will soon bring out something for Association Football. (Hopefully in the later years it's not all just FIFA, PES, and maybe Football Manager. Probably not with Mario Strikers series in the mix.
Nfl qb club graphically was a head of its time I use to buy them and thought the game play was a little lagging compared to madden but graphics wise it was killing it lol
Why isn’t Mutant Football League on here? That game is underrated, the players and teams have funny distorted names that sound like their names in real life 😂, example Tom Brady is Bomb Shady
Madden was better when it had competition like ESPN 2k5. Now EA has a monopoly on NFL license.
I've played Madden 2005 a lot recently, and it is the best football video game IMO
Tecmo Bowl and Tecmo Super Bowl are my favorites of all-time
QB Club and 2k, what a step up but I still miss blitz.
2k would own football games if ea didn't buy out the NFL license
FOR REALLL

Montana rice and Taylor with lott on defense
Joe Montana Football on the Genesis was SOOO UNDERRATED

Tecmo Bowl was way ahead of its time. Look at those graphics in 1987.
I literally can't help but to smile watching this whole video this was super awesome
NFL 2k5 was my last football videogame. EA and NFL exclusive deal turned me off forever.
