    I think you was not pushing the speed bar, looks like you pushing the foot stirrup??

      I think you're right! The speed bar has the half-loop plastic foot holder and I was pushing on the foot stirrup...WOW! Thank you... It's been almost a year and I have another video to upload about the Makapuu redemption flight. Stay tuned!

      Great observation... Brummel Hooks when "speedbar" applied did not move. Pushing on stirrups instead. Im not sure the full speed bar wouldve gotton the pilot out of the venturi the gap created he was way to deep by that stage. Thank you Life's Adventures for your honesty..... this video needs to be viewed by all pilots but its a valuable lesson for all beginner and intermediate pilots. Glad you got away with this with a bruised sense of pride and a couple of sctratches. Cheers

    Thanks for posting this, I know it takes courage to post screwups, some commenters can be relentless! I used to forget my speed bar at I kited for a year before actually flying and of course never hooked it up. That was a reality check, thanks again!

    Good stuff and shows you really thought about your mistakes and shows real bravery to put it online. I am an Australian pilot flying 30 years and have flown in Hawaii, love Macapu. One thing I have found helpful is that I attach a small carabiner to the speed system sometimes easier to attach if you forget. If you are feeling under pressure on launch slow down and have a written checklist, forget the GOPRO until you have many hundreds of hours to your credit.

      thank you for your comment. I’m curious to know what month is the best time to fly in Hawaii? I am from the Philippines and quite experienced with thermal conditions what with the weather in my home site, OSLOB CEBU. Will be a good month to fly?

      I think August, and September the best months, but I would contact Alex at Windline's local contact group.

    A likely reason that the wind suddenly felt so strong is that you let yourself get back into the canyon and got caught in the venturi.

    Glad you crash landed safely, good that you self analyzed and learn't a valuable lesson, Definitely extremely lucky as we had one pilot here not so lucky. Crashed into the power lines and unfortunately lost his life.Not sure if you ever even knew any site rules or protocols? visiting pilots P3/P4 always get local knowledge where ever you fly. Well done in publishing this video, Aloha

      Thank you Marc! I feel fortunate to have had the outcome that I did. I did try to get the local rules and protocols on that particular site but everything happened so fast. Ultimately it came down to being rushed, not paying attention to my surroundings, overconfidence, and being caught up in trying to make a video. Lessons learned for sure. Thank you for your input. Fly safe!

    Hi Randy, Firstly, Thank you for posting such an honest video. Social media can be cruel so I especially appreciate you posting the Hawaii video. You have no contact details on your about page.. I am a paragliding pilot in Western Australia and produce content on youtube aimed at intermediate paraglider pilots. I would like to get in contact with you ASAP and arrange a private chat via email if you could find the time I'd appreciate it so much. If you reply to this comment, I will reply again with my email address. (dont want to leave it out there for everyone, you know how it is). Thanks you, I look forward to catching up with you. Nige.

    Get a site briefing from a local pilot next time!

    • @1canstuntman
      @1canstuntman 3 года назад +2

      Huh? He did.. He arranged for an experienced pilot who has flown the site before to go with him. He was even in the video..... did you watch the video?

    • @lifesadventures2940
      @lifesadventures2940  3 года назад

      Thank you! Even with the site briefing from a local, I made many mistakes that lead to the incident. That was nobody's fault but my own. I have a redemption video I will be publishing very soon!! Appreciate your comments!

    You weren't even close to pushing full bar. I don't think you engaged the speed system at all actually. You should be able to accelerate from about 35kmh to over 50 pretty quickly. It's called going "block to block" you go to the nearest/shortest strap on the bar and push it out with your tippy toes. If you can't push the blocks any closer because they're mashed together and overlapping, that's full bar.

      Maybe needs adjustment too? I have four wings and they are all a bit different on the speed bar. In my pod harness I took to making an adjuster for the speed bar lines as it has 3 levels/stirrups and I can never remember which one gives what on which wing lol!

    I think you might need to tighten your chest strap a little bit. You were weight shifting too easily. Nothing wrong with weight shifting like that, but clearly you were turning unintendedly just by the act of trying to fix the speed bar quick links.
