- Hemp is finally legal in the States and it's changing the building construction industry. In this video, I cover the most popular industrial hemp products: hempcrete which acts as both a construction and insulation material, hemp batt insulation, hemp oil, and hemp wood. The legalization of hemp has opened up new markets in the States and will hopefully lead the construction industry down a more eco-friendly path.

Cannabis also has a high mineral uptake to remove soil contaminants, an ability that Japan is considering/utilizing for radioactive fallout within soils.
hemp was known to remove radiation from the ground in russia.
It's called 'phytoremediation'.

I'm glad that hemp has finally been legalized in the US I'm going to be doing my first hempcrete build this summer!
Will you post on here so we can catch up to your journey ?
Did u built any product from hemp
@@s1lenc7 Eventually I hope to do some hempcrete videos. Currently most of what I have posted is on r/hempcrete on reddit
@@jessepender5239 will definitely subscribe
@Sjdidjcn Jdir9fj ??? It was impossible to do before it was legalized are u dense?
I can't help but feel that this product is so relevant to our needs in the United States. We need this industry to fully get airborne in the next couple of years. This would be great for new homes in the west coast. Anybody rebuilding in those areas should be using this stuff.
did you know it used to be a law that every land owning citizen of the US was required to grow hemp on their property as a form of an early tax?
We use hemp shavings in our chicken coop roost area to absorb and help decompose the poop from our chickens. Our initial application has lasted 6 months now with just an occasional stir to mix it up. Still absolutely no smells produced! This stuff is amazing. We will probably put it in the compost pile in another six months and swap with a new batch.
I’m thinking of putting it in my coop but having a hard time finding information about it. I’m curious how big is your coop, how many chickens do you have and which part of the coop do you put it in? Just the roost? In laying boxes too?
Will need to keep this in mind if my family starts raising chickens for eggs again, thanks!
where do you get?
Coincidentally I’m attending a two day Hempcrete course here in Australia this weekend. Wonderful stuff. I intend to renovate to passive house standards with this extraordinary material. Excellent channel too Belinda.
Thanks Ross! Stay safe down there. I have family in Melbourne. Where do you live?
Hemp seeds themselves are really tasty and very good for you too.
Also it's easy to cut with a buzz saw.
Hemp is the future for SURE!
I’ve been paying attention to hempcrete since about 2014/2015 when I was 14/15 years old. I have major desire to move to Alaska and buy land to off-grid on someday, and am *seriously* excited for the cost of hempcrete to be down by the time I’m able to go about it for its insulation properties. Only know about it because of how many testimonies in a row I was hearing about having such good retainment of thermals tiny houses were being made without HVACs at all.
PS thanks for mentioning Hempwood too! It’s an awesome material I’m still learning about as I go with it, but am making a craftsmanship venture around it, it is very strong. Very different from planks and is more similar to OSB (found that out the hard way when I tried to chisel it) but it’s good.
Great video 👍🏼
Wow, sounds like you're very knowledgeable about hempcrete! Thanks for watching. Hope to visit your future home in Alaska one day :) (Btw, where did you find a Hempwood sample?)
Belinda Carr How good the video was it was a pleasure to watch! I’ve just now found your channel and finished watching your video on Musk’s Boring Bricks before being routed to this video, I just may be subscribing today though, they’re both very good. I do have hope to RUclips my ventures there as well, get myself a Starlink subscription and try it out, maybe you’ll come across one someday 😄 the Hempwood too, the company sells them direct through the website, I live in Pennsylvania just outside Pittsburgh so the shipping time’s short - I actually just received another plank yesterday. However, there’s an around two week delay on getting materials shipped out, as they have a lengthy creation process - I do not yet know the details of why, but, for a product that not only doesn’t deforest but is also made of a material giving new hope to farmers and environmentalists all around North America, I say it’s a good thing I’m patient hahah.
@@cameronf3343 Thanks a lot for the support! I'm guessing that the lead times are so long because the demand for hempwood is low right now. I hope people switch from laminate to hempwood soon.
Belinda Carr I hope so too, and you’re very welcome, have a great Thursday!

Hi Belinda, awesome video & thumbs up. In South Africa, we have been exploring Hempcrete. My partners & I are developing a greener/eco form of concrete, through Biochar. I have researched hempcrete & have theorised that; that combining hemp to our Biochar base mix will mitigate the lack of structural integrity from hempcrete, in our opinion, hempcrete lacks the compressive strength needed, while showing good signs of tensile strength. Our Biochar cement mix lacks tensile strength while offering superior compressive strength. We attribute this to the lack of silica & is due to the lack of traditional stone & sand aggregates normally used with concrete. I believe hemp can provide the missing silica due to its composition properties.
Our Eco building products are still in development stage & we in SA are still waiting on the legalization of cannabis farming, so we can carry our concept forward.
Anywho great video & thank you for sharing the knowledge!
Hemp should be used for producing paper (in Canada), it grow naturally and could be harvested each year.
Plus it makes a very nice paper, more durable than wood paste paper.
Hemp is a gift from God. Houses built with hemp can last 700 years. Self insulated no heating or cooling needed with 12 inch walls. The idiots that made this illegal caused environmental havoc that caused the earth great pain. The US military have used Hemp for All their uniforms. Keep up the good work!
Hi Belinda! Thanks for this video. I've been deeply interested in hemp and it's ecological and societal implications. I enjoyed the way you presented the information in a way anyone could understand and i will be sure to share this video with my students.
Thank you!
Thank you so much for enlightening me my friend🙏🏿🖤
Thank you for your videos on container homes and this. Very educational.
Would you also happen to know how hempwood / hempcrete fares in harsher tropical climates like the Indian subcontinent?
As always solid research and an eloquent delivery.
Very clear and informative presentation of one of the most important plants in human history. Thx. Hemp has a lot to give.
So Popular Mechanics was spot on in predicting hemp would become a billion dollar industry, it's just taken longer than logic would have had it.
oof, lots of good uses. The insulation factor isn't strong enough for where I live, with a recommended value of r49. To get that value, it'd have to be seriously thick. That said, I'm really interested in the uses and this video is giving me some really good ideas.
Great video, lots of info put simply. I love hemp. Thank you
Great work
Thank you for the information!!!
Very informative video, presented nicely with proper pace. Liked and subscribed!👍
Very well done! Thank you for this summary!!
I saw a video about a structural hemp block product manufactured by Just Biofiber. I’m curious if you have any updates on new hemp products since this video was posted? My husband and I are planning a house build and I’m very curious about alternative, more eco friendly material options. Thank you for the great content!
Hemp IS Cannabis Sativa.
Difference is that hemp is the name used when speaking about the plant grown for industrial purposes where cannabis (latin name) is more commonly associated with psychoactive properties at which point the term marijuana is also used to refer to it.
Main difference is as you have pointed out the THC content due to legality. Now comes the funny bit - Cannabis grown in the colder climate (e.g. Europe, North America) usually doesn't have enough THC and you need a hot and humid climate for the plant to produce THC. It's the same plant though, even if the plant would change through generations to addapt to the climate (say seeds brought from warm humid grown plants would produce more thc in the cold than their local counterparts, but this would level itself out in a generation or two; also vice versa). This is why plants grown for thc are usually grown indoors - to simulate these tropical conditions.
Great video overall, I just could not leave the canabis/hemp/marijuana scheme at the beginning. People should know it's the same plant. Nothing positive or negative, just how it is.
Very interesting information.
just came across your video and i love it. I think this is the perfect time if any to use hemp in construction to help mitigate climate change. we can cut down our co2 emissions but we also NEED to pull carbon out of the air in tandem. Hemp concrete can pull some of the carbon out while being used to infrastructure. i just have serious doubts the people in power are actually go to do something, and not just keep everything the way it is until they die, which is no longer their problem.
I think I'm going to go be a hemp farmer now.
or I will "Huff and Puff your house" takes on a whole new meaning now.
That is so awesome that you could make it and mix it and make it into like a brick and your house would have burned that's awesome it's something amazing I have never heard that before from the hemp plant
WHY OR WHAT WAS THE TRUE REASON FOR THE BAN ON HEMP WITH RESPECT TO OTHER PLANTS USED FOR POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE? THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR TIME AND CONSIDERATION IN THIS MATTER. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.
Very Good!! Legalize Brazil!!
Thank you for the video, people should get more infos about this plant
Thank you :)
hemp crete is awesome. only problem is availability.
Really good explanation!!!
I really like your outro music.
Your videos are very informative
Thx for the Info . I have some property & planning on starting a Hemp Op .
What about adding hemp to concrete?
Great video, very informative.

Hemp can only help humanity if we let it.
What is the best strongest hemp plywood alternative on the market in North America = do you know?

I have some projects using hempcrete in process of permitting in San Antonio, TX. Let me know if you would like to be a guest on our jobs to share with your viewers.
Excellent! Thanks for reaching out, Ray. Could you please send me your email address so that we can get in touch? I'm very interested in seeing and sharing your work.

Was the question found
Legalize it, for more Peace and Freedom in the World.
Namasté Magnificent Sister, Cannabis comes in two Varieties - Low THC & High THC.
Marijuana is just another name for Weed, Ganja etc.
Apologies if I'm missing something obvious, but would it be possible (or advisable) to fill Fox Blocks with hempcrete? Or would you still need some kind of additional structural support?
CBD stands for Cannabidiol, not cannabinoid
You can easily tell between the 2 with out testing them
I did not catch the websites
Great video #HEmpdemic2020
Do you think hempcrete is a good choice for internal insulation of a solid brick wall? Your latest videos about vapor permeability and air tightness didn’t mention it. Thank you!
It's commonly done in France. There are projecting machines to quickly plaster masonry walls. It is usually mixed with less lime (or gypsum or clay, or a mixture) so it is more insulating. For very thick applications, you may need to install a wooden structure made of perpendicular cleats, to embed in the plaster.
I just realized you probably meant with hempcrete bricks. It is done too, using very thin joints.
I'm sick of seeing everyone complain about carbon but not support hemp. If they want less carbon, hemp has to be used instead of petroleum.
CBD stands for cannabidiol, NOT "Cannabanoid" (which is a misspelling of cannabinoid). Cannabinoid is a collective term for all the chemicals that are unique or distinctive to cannabis plants.
good job baby
What is your opinion on Aircrete?
17-30% THC? Damn, homegirl be getting that medical grade
Hi Belinda , as an indian I m very keen to know about hamp because it's related to lord Shiva . And I know hamp must have heavenly properties . Thank you for sharing .
Когда уже у нас легалайз у меня столько земли черноземной..
You built it and smoke it little by little!
Hemp can grow in 4 months not 6 and you forgot to mention that it is naturally mold resistant!
Great video, but you are a bit misinformed. Two types of cannabis are not "hemp" and "Marijuana". There are in fact Three types of cannabis, they are known as Cannabis Ruderalis, Sativa, and Indica.
Duryodhan builders built this for burning purposes
What an excellent solution to global warming. Just Biofiber is an Alberta based company which has completely revolutionized how modular hemp blocks are used in construction
one word 'POLITICS'.
You once told me that you live in the USA. Where exactly? The east, north east, west, south? Midwest?

In Pakistan what
Don’t real wonder why we aren’t using it more it’s been used by cultures all around the world but big business and greed with tactful lobbyists screwed us

It's originally from India n even now under colonial influence ,our laws r prohibiting farming and consumption 😕
this was exactly what I was searching for and yes I do have a few other products that are produced with gennep but it's going to be a very long story writing you this then you can better ask me for your email address and I will send it to you
Marijuana is literally just an old slang term used for a wild tobacco bush in the wild, please use more specific terminology.
*cannabidiol
So it’s basically big boy paper mache’ that’s why they want it legal in the south people be building their own cities
Marijuana is a derogatory name given to cannabis to discriminate against immigrants
William Randolph Hearst owned many newspapers that were responsible for publishing the countless lies about cannabis that spewed out of the racist mouth of Harry J. Anslinger. Hearst, Anslinger, and DuPont conspired to ban Cannabis because of their greed. Hearst millions of acres of pulp forest were in jeopardy because of the invention of the Decordicator. Anslinger was out of a job due to the end of Prohibition. Dupont made the bleaching agent for newsprint. Calling Cannabis Marijuana is disrespectful to everyone affected by Hearst's war on a plant for his profit.
The information described in this video is misleading and not necessarily correct......CANNABIS IS CANNABIS.... For example, the 0.3 used to describe so called hemp is an arbitrary number invented by regulators at the start of relegalization of cannabis. The varieties as well that contain 0.3 thc CAN NOT contain 17% cbd, the ratio at present is locked,,,,this is to say that if a plant has 0.3% thc the maximum amount of cbd is 7.9%......period
thank you for the nice advicec, but please you can make the same video but slowly, the talking ist to faast !!!
because my wife have brest cancer, and we are very intrestet because the hemp oil,

From a structural perspective, and that might change with more research and development.

i would love for another video on hempcrete and hemp wood. Given what they say about the strength and density of hempwood could we use it as a replacement for timber framing?
Subscribed. Your videos are interesting, well presented, informative, and articulate. Keep up the great work.
Thank you!!
This was another great video. I am glad I subscribed. Hemp may also be an excellent candidate for cross lamination. I would like to see more on the tensile, dead load, and compressive strength of it if they claim it's use as a hardwood.
Although ancillary at best to the construction industry, please report on the hemp as a substitute material for HEPA filters in particular and filters generally. Thanks.
That picture of Nixon laughing as he signs the bill says it all.
And only in recent years have such presidents as Obama, Trump and Biden been overseeing the legalisation of weed.
Pay attention to the donors of politicians. That tells the whole story (psst it’s big pharma in this case)
@@msshelbyful and it was partially the timber industry that made illegal in the first place. That and good ole racism.
@@msshelbyful it shouldn't have ever been illegal to start with, so idc what company spend the money to get the idiots to remove the dumbass law.
