I wanted to wait a second to confirm anything because I rather it kinda stay mysterious for most people 😅 Apparently there was some leftover code from the Madden games that the NASCAR team had to work around, where they had to hide a field goal under every track in order for the game to work 🙃 I just love that they got girly with it and made one of em a spinny pirate wheel lol
that doesn’t make sense this isn’t a roblox game cause the game was created entirely from scratch and a script could’ve been easily implemented to cause damage to your car every time you wreck the more likely case is that it was a old texture that was never used cause like in many hame old textures or items that were never used the devs would put them underneath the map although this is much more popular in older games that newer games
Devs will often mess around within their own games and i can confirm, it is very common for us to just leave stuff somewhere where "nobody can ever find it". We never learn.
Yup. Back when I was in the field, i was notorious for scatter random shit in certain maps and other would find it and toss/dump it into out of bounds/not reachable area
in NT2004, There was a track named Dockside, so the wheel probably came from there, but im sure that the pirate wheel is there to keep the track working.
It's just part of old code writing. They often had some sub codes program running that allowed something to work, like physics or sound. They were often represented by a physical item that allowed developers to observe it's working properly. This icon was hard written into the code, so it was something that could span several games if the same engine was used. I would guess the wheel was just some generic item they could select that was so far out from the content In the game, they could easily find it without thinking it was a glitch
Wow, what’s really weird is that I have a copy of that exact game sitting next to me right now. I pulled my old PS2 down from the attic just a few weeks ago, and Nascar Thunder 2004 was there in the box.
It's actually likely to be a part of the game and its overall functionality. In order to have a game, you need a collision detection system of some sort. Otherwise, you'll fall through the map because, technically, the player is always colliding with the map. You set collision up by coding it to a programmable asset that can handle loads. It be whatever the developer wants it to be
@@sneekibreeki8162 ok, if I'm understanding you right and that wheel is basically the thing that makes the game function, I wanna make it spin faster just to see what happens
@@ImTheMilkMan65Man that's the kind of crap I hoped I could do when I found it 😭 On the upside there were a looooot of night versions of tracks I never searched *and* a few tracks where I could explore the infield but not the outer boundaries... maybe theres still more to be found? 🤔

In nascar dirt to daytona, in turn one of homestead there is a blue/orange tire barrier, if you enter it from the butt end you can..albiet very slowly glitch into the infield. Works in the trucks at least. Found it after wrecking and trying to smash my car
This needs a remaster the national anthem with the start your engines and the flyover you could do burnouts till your tires popped or engine blew it was awesome
Probably was originally a troll for people pirating the game. A lot of games did that back in the day lol if it wasnt implemented it probably wasnt worth taking out.
It is sprite to hold some code, when i do something, i start from creating an empty "sprite" and fill it with functions, when i m done with this function and it works ws intended, i do forget about this sprite and never touch it again due to OOP paradigma. This wheel must be draw trees of track or something like this.
Guys I broke the code The wheel has 9 handles, nothing weird right? WRONG! NASCAR was founded in 1948, remove the 1, 4, and 8 and you’re left with 9. The very first nascar race was February 15th 1948. Dale earnheards death was February 18th, 3 days after the anniversary of nascar. It doesn’t take a genius to connect 3 days with his car number 3. The elites and corporate suits of nascar staged his death and put it in plain sight on this game and laughed about it. Open your eyes people
I think they added that to NASCAR thunder 2004 for some odd reason but here's theory that I created my own. A long time ago. There was a Navy battle between the US and the UK a lot of us Boats were destroyed. But only one thing was safe the steering wheel the steering wheel was underground for a long time. But after they construct this track, nobody knew the steering wheel was underground, But after the tracks dying day and they found the steering wheel on the ground they were like, hey, we did not know the steering wheel was underground for years. That's weird. We never saw that when after we built the track, So that's my theory. Also, they probably added that so they can poke fun of people who actually want to be Pirates.
The answer is actually really simple. It is from development of another game. They probably started that game with the pirate steering wheel. Scraped it and then started developing Nascar. And it just got left
You do realize game developers take one game and they'll regret it and lay other graphics on top of it of another game it was probably a pirate ship game that they revamped into a NASCAR game

That's definitely a load bearing pirate wheel. If it's deleted the track loses collision and you fall through the track.
Actually?
How does that work?

Usually those are on a ship and it’s used to steer it
Lol
This is actually true, I was on a 1700s pirate ship near the horn of africa and it had one of these.
Dale Jr has a ship without one
There's a tomato png that holds TF2 together
If it wasn't there the game wouldn't work

EA NASCAR was built off their NFL game code. To find the origins you’d likely need to trace back through the Madden games.
THEN I BET THE WHEEL HAD TO DOWITH THE TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS AND THEIR FAKE PIRATE SHIP!!!!
BOOM! Problem solvers 😮
It's the trophy logo for the dockside track
The pirate wheel probably there to fuck with people who over think things or they were time traveling Alestorm fans

My guess is it was a physics engine test that they left in so long that when they removed it the game would crash so instead they just left it in
Probably one of those things where it serves no purpose but if you removed it Poland gets invaded again. It's quite common.

Probably something to do with reused code from a previous game
pirate is 6 letters.
Now take 2004. Make it 24. 2+4=6
24 was also the number for Jeff Gordon.

go back to 2015

Its either old unused code or a thing that stops piracy
Why is it automatically from a pirate ship? All ships had/have helms.
This reminds me of the glitches in gran turismo 5 at the Nurburgring
