MGMT are a band from Middletown Connecticut USA. They have been around since 2002. This song was released in 2007. There Genre’s are, Indie Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Synth-pop, Psychedelic Pop and Neo-psychedelia. So as you can see their music is diverse. Great band.

MGMT was one of the bands that got me to start listening to new music again. And I'm glad I did. I used to listen to nothing but 90's alt rock. I still love that music but there is just so much more out there to experience. It aggravates me now when I hear people say "they don't make music like this anymore". You're right; but, music is still being made that is great and is made for the time we are currently in.
@@whodafeak same here. I was in high school when their debut dropped. Anti new music, Anti pop music. But stoners, the popular kids, Indie kids, hiphop heads and nerds were all bumping this album. couldn't walk down the hall without someone saying "have you heard of MGMT?". Especially nowadays, front-to-back, this record's a trip. Timeless album.
You are all super gay. Mgmt is seriously good. Good on the level that they have been praised by Paul McCartney, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Bono, JayZ, and Brian Eno. They have 4 albums. Every song is genius. Their more popular ones are slappers for sure, but that does not represent the band
The title of this song reminded me of a song you should listen to, It was released in 1982 and was big in the dance clubs. The singer is Eddy Grant and the song is Electric Avenue.
Florence and the Machine is so super talented. I was amazed when I heard how young she was when she hit it big. She had a sound that was so beyond her years and a heavenly voice.
This album is a favourite of mine. It's my personal summer of love album, back when I first let love in and life was amazing. Late teens, not a care in the world. Good memories forever associated with it. The vocals in this version are different to what I've ever heard before, more distortion and effects.
This is a late 70s to mid 80s sound. Reminds me of Chic and Loose Endz. It would have crossed over to Black radio and clubs if it came out then. This shit goes hard young people.
Some early 2000's alternative (2007)! Didn't figure you'd go there, but I love it. Death Cab for Cutie, The Shins, Foster the People, Arcade Fire, The Killers, The Black Keys are some other excellent bands from the same time frame ✌
2000s with retro '70s/'80s style funk and electronics. A little new wave influence too. "Kids" is another good song from them. Empire of the Sun, Goyte, Royksopp, and Capital Cities are groups similar to them too. Its like dance music for hipsters ha! Alternative/Indie dance music.
This was my jam back in high school. This song is from like 2009 I think. They did a collab with Kid Cudi on his first album. A lot of this synth pop was extremely popular during that time.
This song is actually about lsd, the oooh girl part is referring the to Lucy a nickname for lsd and the electric feel is the body feeling lsd gives you
The first time I heard this I was walking down into brother's bar in downtown Minneapolis back in like 2008/2009 or somethin and it was a whole vizzzibe lol I felt like I was Magic Don Juan or somethin 😂

Definitely not an old school song, and definitely not about people dancing at weddings to this song. This song, like pretty much all their songs are psychedelic songs.
These guys are very talented. It's from this century but earlier. Also, they may be referencing hallucinogens in this song. I'm not 100% sure of that, but I've always thought of ayahuasca when I hear this song. Maybe it's just me lol.
This album was MASSIVE in the UK in the late 2000s. I had like 3 copies of it, really great album this is off and was one of the main bands in the 'indie' subculture here around that time. I'm still waiting for some harder music from you guys but I won't give recs, I'll hope some like minded people will do that
Their story, history, and stance on music is fascinating. Another song you should listen to that I dont really see in the comments is "Congratulations",,, but "Electric Feel" and "Time to Pretend" are my personal favorites just ahead of "Congratulations", with "Kids" in my fourth place spot.

I know the name but never really checked them out even tho they have been compared to Ween many times. They sound, to me, more like Tame Impala. But like both Tame Impala & MGMT, Ween was built by 2 ppl, one who played all the instruments and the other wrote the lyrics and then later put together a band for touring. Maybe this is why they are grouped together every now&then. So some: Ween - Buckingham Green or Blue Balloon

So I've been binging through your videos, you two are awesome. I just came from watching your Zombie reaction and it surprised me to see you haven't reacted to The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel yet, it's a pretty dope song with very awesome lyrics.
This is early 2000s. It's basically NYC hipster music. Bands like this, Interpol, the Killers and Foster the People drew from many 80s genres like New Wave, House music and Freestyle.
Good reaction, you guys, as usual. I am always interested when you all try to decipher the "genre" or era of a song. To me, this song is obviously 2000's. It has the modern synthesizer sounds of today as well as contemporary pop music's subtle blending of the past 70 years of modern music. In here are pop influences from the 1950s through today, particulary from electronica (esp. techno which is from the early 1990s), 1980's new wave (New Order, Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, etc.) and older as well as modern psychedelic rock (especially groups like Flaming Lips and Spiritualized). Certain trends seem to come back around but are always mashed up with other styles and trends as they are reintroduced

"indie rokkers" is a classic. "weekend wars" is amazing. "the youth" and "4th dimensional transition" are also great. Check out "Blue Monday" by New Order. Its a synth type of song with a very loud bassline. Its a older song from the 80s that might give a similar vibe.
I was not around in the 70s, but it sounds like something from that time frame. I had no idea that it was so "new". I think the first time that I heard it was on The Voice - Preston Pohl. I think he actually sings it a little better... with the rasp.
