I once heard someone describe MGMT as 'college music gone horribly right.'
Their hits songs maybe
MGMT was one of the bands that got me to start listening to new music again. And I'm glad I did. I used to listen to nothing but 90's alt rock. I still love that music but there is just so much more out there to experience. It aggravates me now when I hear people say "they don't make music like this anymore". You're right; but, music is still being made that is great and is made for the time we are currently in.
@@whodafeak same here. I was in high school when their debut dropped. Anti new music, Anti pop music. But stoners, the popular kids, Indie kids, hiphop heads and nerds were all bumping this album. couldn't walk down the hall without someone saying "have you heard of MGMT?". Especially nowadays, front-to-back, this record's a trip. Timeless album.
😆 👍
@@whodafeak spittin. very true
Y'all gotta do MGMT's song Kids
And also Time To Pretend
Def to both
Definitely
There is a radom lil kim x kids mgmt mashup thing on youtube (if you like hip hop) it's lit
You are all super gay. Mgmt is seriously good. Good on the level that they have been praised by Paul McCartney, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Bono, JayZ, and Brian Eno.
They have 4 albums. Every song is genius.
Their more popular ones are slappers for sure, but that does not represent the band
MGMT are a band from Middletown Connecticut USA. They have been around since 2002.
This song was released in 2007.
There Genre’s are, Indie Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Synth-pop, Psychedelic Pop and Neo-psychedelia. So as you can see their music is diverse.
Great band.
Where genres are? 🤔
Do Empire of the Sun - Walking on a dream. Wavy like this track, around the same era. The whole music era had some alternative sounds popping up.
Great suggestion 👌
YESSSSSSS
YESSSS!!!!
Other MGMT tracks to check out: Weekend Wars, The Youth, Time to Pretend, Kids.
Little Dark Age as well! (easily their best song in my opinion)
Yes Time to Pretend & Kids :D
Their ep before this was awesome and both of their albums after are some of the best like Tame Impala
@@JoeBlow_4 they’ll be bigger in the near future i believe
@@eleven-hopper Siberian Breaks is their best song hands down. Flash Delirium up there too 👾👾
Interesting band...'Time To Pretend' is le banger. It slaps, has good lyrics, funny ending
Incredible music video too 😂
They made some absolute bangers for sure
Talk about a catchy and instantly recognisable melody!
Walking on a Dream by Empire of the Sun is a good follow up to this song.
Their songs "Kids" and "Time To Pretend" are my favorite songs by them
This one my favourite
The title of this song reminded me of a song you should listen to, It was released in 1982 and was big in the dance clubs. The singer is Eddy Grant and the song is Electric Avenue.
You should check out Foster the People, Gorillaz, and Florence and the Machine. Oh and Arcade Fire.
'Empire Ants' - Gorillaz
good list
Portishead would sit nicely on this list 👍
Florence and the Machine is so super talented. I was amazed when I heard how young she was when she hit it big. She had a sound that was so beyond her years and a heavenly voice.
That entire MGMT album is a BANGER! NO SKIPS
This was my jam for the longest time 😁
I'm jelly
Same. I also liked the justice remix of this song.
There’s a clip of MGMT performing this song on stage with Kid Cudi absolutely electric feeling it. Always cheers me up.
I love Mgmt, I showed that song to some friends when it came out, they thought I was weird liking it, couple days later they were all jamming to it 😂
Haha I remember that with MGMT and other bands at the time! This song defines a certain time period for me now.
This album is a favourite of mine. It's my personal summer of love album, back when I first let love in and life was amazing. Late teens, not a care in the world. Good memories forever associated with it. The vocals in this version are different to what I've ever heard before, more distortion and effects.
Same man this takes me back in so many ways
Was in college when this song came out and we danced our asses off at the clubs to it. Love this song!
This is a late 70s to mid 80s sound. Reminds me of Chic and Loose Endz. It would have crossed over to Black radio and clubs if it came out then. This shit goes hard young people.
That soothing flute sound Brad likes is actually a synthesized flute with some delay on it.
This was the soundtrack to my sixth form/early uni days. So much nostalgia
Some early 2000's alternative (2007)! Didn't figure you'd go there, but I love it. Death Cab for Cutie, The Shins, Foster the People, Arcade Fire, The Killers, The Black Keys are some other excellent bands from the same time frame ✌
The Black Keys!! "Gold On The Ceiling". The official video for "Lonely Boy" is classic.
Good list
Save it for the electric bill 🤣 is what I heard. 2000’s, baby!
This whole album is awesome. Such a unique mix of electronic and rock. It's called Oracular Spectacular. It was big in 2008/9.
You guys legit remind me of artists use to listen to and get to enjoy again!
Time To Pretend is another great one.
you should listen to M83
2000s with retro '70s/'80s style funk and electronics. A little new wave influence too. "Kids" is another good song from them. Empire of the Sun, Goyte, Royksopp, and Capital Cities are groups similar to them too. Its like dance music for hipsters ha! Alternative/Indie dance music.
I know Lex would love "Kids" by these guys
This was my jam back in high school. This song is from like 2009 I think. They did a collab with Kid Cudi on his first album. A lot of this synth pop was extremely popular during that time.
2007
Lex!! Love your reactions. I smile when I see you two react. But Lex, you love music. It’s contagious
Ended up being a classic 🔥
Love your channel! Like the way you guys jump right into the music. Like how Brad always analyzes the lyrics & Lex has her own free spirited description of the music, and most times is spot on! Keep up the entertaining reviews & please review more RUSH! Freewill or By-tor & the Snowdog.
Saw these dudes at Bonnaroo a few years back, what a show. They certainly know how to have a good time with the crowd. By the end you couldn't even see the band for all the people they let up to dance on stage!
Wow, love you guys finally listening to some late ‘00s/early ‘10s alternative. Keep going with this band, as well as Tame Impala, Arctic Monkeys, Vampire Weekend, Glass Animals and a lot more I can’t remember right now.
Definitely Tame Impala and Glass Animals
Phantogram
Yeah yeah yeahs
The Black Keys
Empire of the Sun
Foster the People
Foals
Franz Ferdinand
Of Monsters and Men
Alabama Shakes
The XX
Vance Joy
Lumineers
The Head and the Heart
Modest Mouse
The Marias
Hiatus Kaiyote
Florence and the Machine
Interpol
Cannon
Crumb
Just cause you reacted to this and cause I loved the reaction, I gotta sub!
I really think you guys are doing a great job the way you handle your channel and the music you choose to react to and when you react to it. Not reacting on the Live Stream to music requests that are Super-chatted to you may be a big reason why your Streams are not taken down mid-flight. Also happy to see you follow through on this Super Chat request in a timely manner. Props to the person who Super Chat this to you also. He did it good asking you to react to it off stream instead attempting to pay for the play during the Stream. Koo-dos all around.
This song brings up so many memories, used to play it all the time back when I lived in the Marshall Islands just over a decade ago.
Really love this song. it was heavy play on my iPod back in the day.
I fell in love with this song while working at Marc by Marc Jacobs Singapore 2012. They used to play this everyday! ❤️
These guys are very talented. It's from this century but earlier. Also, they may be referencing hallucinogens in this song. I'm not 100% sure of that, but I've always thought of ayahuasca when I hear this song. Maybe it's just me lol.
A very unique sounding bop. Can’t categorize this one
5:47 “Why not??” Made me laugh out loud 😂😂😂
Oh this brings back memories… MGMT has songs that make your day brighter ✌️
Saw them in concert here in Portugal around 02:00AM on a hot summer night in July… good times
🇵🇹 há sempre um português 🤣🤣 Caxias
How fucked up were you?
@@stephengiannone5449 Always the right amount of “fucked up”. They played to close the night after Alice In Chains, Jack White and Pearl Jam.
@@andrecunha6242 Sempre! Sou da Brandoa, Amadora 🤣
Love the Eeyore costume, Lex! Knew this from FIFA '11 and a local radio station played it relatively often.
MGMT are more than these mainstream hits , songs like Siberian Breaks or Metanoia are masterpieces of psychedellic Rock.
Thank you! Tired of everyone recommending Kids
of moons, birds and monsters is my favourite
Their story, history, and stance on music is fascinating. Another song you should listen to that I dont really see in the comments is "Congratulations",,, but "Electric Feel" and "Time to Pretend" are my personal favorites just ahead of "Congratulations", with "Kids" in my fourth place spot.
Never heard of them but I like this song a lot. Gonna spin em up on Amazon Music.
all 4 albums are great - congratulations is their best imo
This song is off “oracular spectacular” I highly recommend starting with that whole album
Love the harmony is the song. Also, I am with Brad on this one😂
Became a fan because of Cudi, MGMT goes hard on Lsd
So I've been binging through your videos, you two are awesome. I just came from watching your Zombie reaction and it surprised me to see you haven't reacted to The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel yet, it's a pretty dope song with very awesome lyrics.
Can never get enough of this song and video, also wish I was there.
Yes!!!! Thank you for the upload!
I missed the live from the other day, but I’m so glad you did this! Thanks for always putting out great content. Love the second channel as well!
Couch Gang!!!
Amazing you guys did this song!!!
This album was MASSIVE in the UK in the late 2000s. I had like 3 copies of it, really great album this is off and was one of the main bands in the 'indie' subculture here around that time. I'm still waiting for some harder music from you guys but I won't give recs, I'll hope some like minded people will do that
mgmt is what got me into indie music. i heard time to pretend on a movie and fell in love immediately.
I was so waiting to see how Lex would react to hearing the sound for the first time and she didn't disappoint...lol
Omg I have never heard this but I love it💕
Frank Ocean - Nature Feel, sampled from Electric Feel both legit bangers.
Fun fact- Frank Ocean is the same thing as hot dog water
Def need to check out their track Time to Pretend.
Mv is trippy, great lyrics for Brad and a unique sound.
These guy's have quite a lot of good track's.
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the fact that Lex is dressed up in an Eeyore onesy? Literally could not ooze more class if she tried.
Love this whole album ❤
Brad takes things so literally. Hilarious. :)
Brings back memories of watching mtv before highschool.
Such a good song!!!
A full bop
“Congratulations” is one their best
this day was cool, 3/5 reactions
You guys have to do more MGMT!!!
Just went to comment on FB and use a gif, I typed FACTS! and a gif of Brad popped up saying "spittin facts!" haha... y'asll done made it now lol
I got distracted by the high Uber cuteness level of Lex in that onesie!😆🔥❤️🙏🇬🇧
Time to do an Indie music live stream!!
They’re dope. You gotta make a series of their music!
Hell yea!! Love MGMT.
U did it!!
My wife put this song in back in 2010 we were driving, no talking just smoking N vibing, married her, still together atm
Definite Prince DNA in this 🤘🏻
Good reaction, you guys, as usual. I am always interested when you all try to decipher the "genre" or era of a song. To me, this song is obviously 2000's. It has the modern synthesizer sounds of today as well as contemporary pop music's subtle blending of the past 70 years of modern music. In here are pop influences from the 1950s through today, particulary from electronica (esp. techno which is from the early 1990s), 1980's new wave (New Order, Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, etc.) and older as well as modern psychedelic rock (especially groups like Flaming Lips and Spiritualized). Certain trends seem to come back around but are always mashed up with other styles and trends as they are reintroduced
Great skating rink jam
LOVE MGMT!!!!!
OMFG! Did y'all just namedrop BLACKMILL?! A REACH FOR GLORY is my favorite chillstep (melodic dubstep) release of all time!
I literally cannot believe anybody else, especially you guys, know who Blackmill is!
A fan of chillstep myself, another good Blackmill track is Let It Be
holy shit i didnt think youd be reacting to mgmt anytime soon lol. they've been one of my favorite bands since high school.
"time to pretend," "electric feel," and "kids" are songs from their first album that were kind of their version of mocking pop music. ironically they also were the songs that made them famous. the other two would make good reactions too.
when it comes to their early shit "the handshake" is one of my favorite tripping songs. "indie rokkers" is a classic. "weekend wars" is amazing. "the youth" and "4th dimensional transition" are also great.
"brian eno," "congratulations," and "flash delirium" are great from their second big album.
from their newest album "little dark age" and "when you die" are both amazing. little dark age has become a meme, paul joseph watson used it in his "white boy summer" segment of one of his modernity videos. there's a pepe that looks like the lead singer in the video so the memeing right has attached themselves to it lol.
little dark age is probably the song ive listened to most in the past few months lol. i really love seeing brad like this, if he likes this song i think he'd like most of the others i mentioned. they have a great unique sound and are lyrically interesting too.
Lex in the Eeyore onesie! Love how ya'll always come from two completely different perspectives.
The first time I heard this I was walking down into brother's bar in downtown Minneapolis back in like 2008/2009 or somethin and it was a whole vizzzibe lol I felt like I was Magic Don Juan or somethin 😂
Songs a masterpiece
YES!!! Great song Great Band!!!! This is my era and style of music!!!
Love this song.
Those guys made some great sounds.
Unique indeed, and catchy. Cool that you reacted to it. For similar modern psychedelic rock vibes, check out Tame Impala a popular band from Australia.
2008-12 were legendary years for life
This song was big when my first son was born so I associate it with that. Love this song.
Cmon lex ya gotta like this,i can see you wanna move to this!!!!!!!yep shes smiling
Love this song 🎵
i love MGMT!
SHOULD TRY Empire Of The Sun
Of Montreal are probably the best of these indie/electro acts. They have tonnes of albums, and maintained their level of quality throughout.
My daughter turned me on to this band! we do share the Love 💕 of Music
Yessss!!
great vibe track
Great Band!
This song is actually about lsd, the oooh girl part is referring the to Lucy a nickname for lsd and the electric feel is the body feeling lsd gives you
I ❤ this!!
