    Hi...
    I'm from Brazil and I found your material fantastic! I've been playing CBG for some time now, but I always found myself having to teach others from scratch. Your video taught me a lot and I have been following you very happily for some time!

    That guitar has a pretty nice tone for a cigar box!

    I've got a question for you. I am learning a 3 string, GDg, can I play the same chords which I play on my 3 string, (mostly barre chords), and really only have the 4th string to get a little higher tone, whilst still using those same chords without having to learn more chords? I'm over 70 and the wrist and fingers are not as supple as they once were, that's why I ask about playing the same chords on a 3 string and a 4 string. If you understand. Thanks.

      If you're playing one finger barre chords then yes they're the same on the 4 string, just add the top note on the same fret. Won't be that simple for other chords.

      You’re very welcome. Glad to see that these theory videos are useful, I know it’s not everyone’s bag.

    Thank you! Four string stuff is hard to find. Is it possible to make an E5?

    • @LearnCigarBoxGuitar
      @LearnCigarBoxGuitar  5 лет назад

      We don't really have 5 chords as the 5 is in most chords by default. Guitarists have this thing they call a power chord (its not really a chord) and is sometimes denoted as E5. It's easy, just bar the 9th fret and don't play the top string so you're playing 151 in E.
      And I've got plenty of resources on my site for 3 and 4 string guitars, currently writing an advanced improvisation course that has heaps for 4 stringers. www.learncigarboxguitar.com

      pat welch how far would we get if every lesson was aimed at beginners? There is a lot of learning that goes into this stuff and the people that have paid there dues already will get something out of it.

    I think your missing the point of the cigar box guitar, the type of music played on this instrument surely doesnt need all these chords, you'd be as well sticking with a six string guitar and learning the chords chords....or am I missing s'thing.???

      People come to these instruments for many different reasons, I offer these lessons for those that want them. As for your point about what type of music should be played on them, I get this a lot. "It's only a cigar box guitar, I don't need all that fancy stuff". Then people complain that their instrument is seen as more of a novelty than a serious instrument. You can't have it both ways.

      @@LearnCigarBoxGuitar I wasn't knocking you...I just think that to go to these lengths, why not uses a regular guitar...Your lessons are well done,..just go a bit too far in my opinion. Ive played for yrs and just got a cigar box guitar more for fun/curiosity.

      Its a guitar..you want to learn chords yeah? Just cause it CBG doesnt mean you dont play chords...it not all slide and one finger chord playing lol.
