Here in the UK we never got to see Donna Summer perform on TV or in concert during the peak years of her career. We never got to fully appreciate just how talented she was as a performer and as top rank vocalist. We had to wait until the RUclips era before all of this magical treasure trove of old video clips were posted on line. This is a marvellous concert that focusses on VOCAL talent- no dozens of acrobats pyrotechnics or scantily clad "dancers" to cover up the questionable talents of many of todays artists!
I agree with everything you said but I would like to point out that in 1977 and early 1978, Donna was more popular in the UK than she was in the US. Pardon my nerdiness but note these eye-popping stats: In 1977, "Winter Melody" did not crack the Top 40 in the US, but hit 27 in the UK. "I Feel Love" ranked #6 in the US, it became her first UK #1 (her first BPI Gold single). Donna’s next three singles ("Theme from The Deep (Down, Deep Inside)", "I Remember Yesterday" and "Love's Unkind" all failed to crack the US pop charts but hit 5, 14 and 3 in the UK and earned a BPI Silver and Gold. "I Love You" stalled at #37 while breaking the UK Top 10 and in earl y 1978, "Rumour Has It" only reached #53 in the US while reaching #19 in the UK and being featured on “Top of the Pops” while being virtually ignored in the US. "Back in Love Again" failed to chart in the US while making the UK Top 30.
@@TonyBlassHollywood 100% accurate. Despite this success Donna never focussed on performing or appearing in the UK during this golden period. Of course everything changed when Last Dance was released. I failed to crack the UK top 40 but was top 3 in the USA. She went on to score 3 consecutive No1 double albums on the Billboard 200 Album Chart and a string of No1 singles and so much more. Her UK success was lukewarm by comparison which is a real head scratcher. I was around at the time and we could not understand why Donna wasn't hitting the same heights here.
She actually did perform in UK after this Italian tour...in London and Manchester I think in Nov 77..she performed,in addition, down deep inside ,which went well in the UK charts
Amazing. Many thanks for posting this concert. Worth it just for "Love to Love You, Baby". What a performance for this song alone. So many wonderful songs here --and she was only a few years into her singing career. Still so many great songs to come. "Prelude to LOve" and "Could it be Magic". Also brilliant. Once again, many, many thanks for uploading this concert.
These early clips are just so fascinating to me. Donna moved from the United States to Germany and began her career in the music industry- it was the work of "The German Trio", Moroder/Bellotte/Summer that created her first big hit that brought her back to America- a sort of "hometown girl makes good" story. But yet, her returning to Germany, just 1 year later also makes for a second story- the singer who left to get her stardom and then returns back to Germany to share her newfound fame with tv interviews and concerts. She was building a reputation as a singer in Germany before the big hit, so Donna was known to Germans in some ways. Donna was a very blessed and talented lady who achieved so much. One can't help but wonder, if it weren't for the Divine intervention of bringing the three together, what might have become of her?
WOW!

Yes, but a couple of dates is nowhere near a full tour. @@rikymira1
WOW! That Love to Love You Baby and I feel love were something else. Hypnotic and sexy.
