  • I replaced all the rusty grub screws on the original Fender stamped saddled and reset the neck angle again. Sorry I didn't get to filming that, but it was a huge pain. In the meantime, my friend had broken the volume pot and lost a sale on the apearance of all the rusty screws, including the grub screws on the saddles. I replaced every last rusty screw, the volume pot and set it all back up again, for the third and final time today:-) Here's a little of the shinanigans.

    I'm looking at this video after taking my Squier Strat to a repair shop and telling the repair guy that sometimes the volume pot cuts out.
    He kept it for a week to replace the strings, set the action and intonation, and clean it. He couldn't find the problem with the volume pot, but I found it still cutting out (I mean that bumping the knob makes the sound go away) three days later.
    Maybe Squier is beneath that repair guy's dignity.
    But now I realize that I chose a repair shop where they neither whip nor naynay, and they damned sure don't let a customer watch them failing to whip and/or naynay.

    I wouild think the best way to do this for someone whos a liitle worried and never do it before would be to first take a photo of how each pot has the wires attached then print that of .then just simply follow that picture with each new pot .as long as you take your time and watch what your doing theres no way it shoulf go wrong 😎

      I once bought a Fender Jaguar that someone had cut out a bit of plastic from an old 4 litre ice cream container to use as a shim. That dog is thankfully long gone...

    when that happens I just loosen the strings about 6 turns tape the neck and strings then unbolt the neck and move it a side then you can remove the pickguard when your done just bolt the neck back together and tighten the strings the 6 turns again that will bring it roughly to pitch saves you time and hassle of having to put the strings back on ...

    Good job. I can't seem to get the ground wires soldered nicely to the pots (always look like a cold solder joint).

    So did this guy drop a new pickguard in there? The pickguard and pickup covers are super white for a guitar from 1987 while the knobs and selector switch tip looks original

    I have a pretty serious question. So im planning on getting my first strat, and ive always loved hendrix. now fender has just released a mexican hendrix strat, with a reversed bridge pickup and reverse headstock so you get jimis insanely unique tone without the discomfort of an upside down body. i absolutely love its sound, but im debating with myself whether or not to get the american standard. The price difference does not matter to me, but its one or the other. I want the hendrix strat, but is it worth getting the american even if i like hendrix more? Thanks man

      @montys8th 9 лет назад +1

      Get whatever feels right. Go and play the Hendrix and the Standard and get whatever one you bond with. Personally I've never been a fan of artist series guitars, I feel like they are more marketed to fans than players and often they are rarely worth the premium you pay over the regular model that they are based on but I've yet to hold the Hendrix Strat so I will reserve judgement until I do. How much more is the Hendrix over the Mexican Standard? One thing I do know is that an American Standard is always going to hold value, the Hendrix is still too new to tell if that will be the case. Just remember that whatever you can do on the Hendrix you can do on a U.S. Standard so really if money isn't an issue get the one that feels better to play.

    What is the pot type? Log or Linear and how many ohms? I already bought 250K log type for all three of the knobs, I heard that for the volume we need to use Log type while for the tone it is Linear type right?

    Not sure if anyone will respond to this comment. I have a 2019 Squier classic vibe Strat 70s and need to replace the 3 pots. I’m checking out Amazon but they all are listed as “imperial pots” and advise not to use them in imported metric guitars, maybe for size issues with the pick guard. Does anyone know where I can purchase good quality pots for my import guitar? Ones that will fit without me having to do any drilling to the pick guard?

    OK, ty just go ahead and flip it, I would love to buy it, but at that price wiffy, and I would have a fight, I know it's worth every cent! you won't have any problems selling it, it wouldn't be a big deal but I'm trying to make sure I have enough for a gelvin 🎸.

    I'm about to replace both tones and volumes on my Austin LP (2 humbuckers)
    Whats your suggestion for pot brands?

    • @WoodesosGuitarMods
      @WoodesosGuitarMods  9 лет назад

      +Richard Kurbis (PAINFINGER) nah man.. they all work. Just grab something from your local shop. I've used expensive ones, cheap ones and frankly, there's little to no difference apart from how they feel to use. A more expensive pot tends to spin a little more evenly:-)

    So I have a squire strat. One of the pots are loose. It turns with the knob. How do I fasten it back down?

    • @jamesstinebaker1290
      @jamesstinebaker1290 6 лет назад

      briandd27 pull the pot itself upward, the cap will pop off, don't be afraid to pull it they get stuck sometimes. there will be a nut sitting flush with your guitar that will be loose, tighten it as much as you can and slap your pot back together

      +Pádraig Floyd I scored them out of a bridge I had hanging around;-) We wanted to save these Fender Stamped saddles and thankfully it worked out perfectly. Just wished I'd filmed me cursing while I was doing it;-)

      Keep in mind I was trading her for an Airline Eastwood 2p guitar. Just like Jack White plays... They go for 550$-650$ used. Of course cash is king... Feel free to make me an offer. 😎 I don't mind keeping this Strat, she sounds and plays like a 3k guitar.... Eheh... No BS... Just a joy to play and own. These US pickups really rock and are totally bluesy....
