@@Smith-he6bg the last video they did, opening a box of grilling/cooking things Bob had ordered, some people took their humor the wrong way and left comments criticizing them. Apparently that was kind of hard for Reid who loves, admires, and respects his parents AND gets their sense of humor. Anyway she had him take that video down so the comments would stop 😥 I wish more of us would give people the benefit of the doubt instead of posting straight up critical things (i.e. That seems harsh or rude but maybe that's their family's sense of humor 🤷) this gives space for everyone to share their thoughts 😊

Hello Dana, thank you for this video! I took hour advice and tried to help my Father who keep all things. Last evening we had conversation about container concept and I think it "clicked" in his brain. So first he brought one small basket to sort. We sorted in 10 minutes, and this gave us momentum. We finished other 2 boxes and one big drawer. 40 minutes in total. It resulted in one small basket of sentimental, one box of tools and organised drawer and 4 bags for recycling. Thank you Dana for all tips!

I was given my Dad’s Air Force hat that he wore when he was in the military. My Dad passed in 1976 and I had held on to it until 2 years ago. I had felt guilty about parting with it because of the significance. I reached out to a local VFW Hall and it is now displayed at their venue with a card written by me with his military experience. They said if I ever missed it, I would be welcome to come visit it whenever I wanted.

One trick that I like to use for sentimental items is to take a picture of the item and then get rid of the item (donate or throw away). The value is not in the object itself, the value is in the memories that object invokes. I can always look back at the picture of the item and still recall the memories.

    •Altogether, good job.
•Re: the military medals, or collectible pins, why not donate them to the VFW, they might know a meaningful destination for them.
•Dana, you were thoughtful and persevering, and
•Bob, how cool that you Have Feelings. Good for you.
•And if you need to reclaim a little bit from trash or donate, here’s what I do: I write on an index card, “Thank you for your service,” and I photograph the object with it on a nice surface. Then I decide if it can go, now that I have the photograph. Either way, I now have a way to keep my feelings that the object represents,
•and Bob, you still had some room in the keep box, if the public sorting was not entirely true to your heart. It is good to know there are people in the world who really care.
Thanks you two and Reid, all 3.

The military pins that were your dad’s are Unit Crest - piba that are worn on uniforms showing what unit you are in. Many veterans will keep something like that as a keepsake showing all the units they served in. I can see it being sentimental to the veteran, their spouse and children, grandchildren … but beyond that I think you made the right call in realizing they really weren’t sentimental to you personally.

Dana & Bob, my computer died several weeks ago, so now that I finally have a new lovely one, I'm playing catch up on all of the YT videos that I missed until I got my new computer... and darn if I didn't get to see the other video that the two of you put out. I'm sure I would have thought it was funny. What's not to love about a married couple who still tease and make each other laugh? I'm so sorry you and Reid had to deal with the negativity. This one really hit home, the sentimental stuff is the hardest. The 2017 unopened Elvis calendar, i can see how he would want to keep that. I love to keep my calendars usually because they have pretty flower pics on them. I wonder if you could make a collage out of the Elvis stuff like that to hang in his new office? Now see I'm crafty and think about things like that and I keep the supplies and never end up doing the thing and it just makes more clutter. Sigh. Making progress little by little right??

Dana, I just wanted to send you two a huge thank you! I just did a massive bedroom declutter with my two little kids, 8 and 6yrs old. Initially it was completely overwhelming, but as I was going along I found myself using your coaching terms and techniques and would you believe it! It worked like a charm! We did the garbage first and then got to work on the hard stuff. It took the stress out of decisions and I was able to break down for them what categories of things they want to keep and then they were able to let go of the rest by themselves. My 8 yr old even turned around and said "Wow! What a good job we are doing here!" Thank you for modelling effective coaching. 😊👍 I am forever grateful for this gem of a lesson! The 8 yr old climbed into bed tonight, in a freshly clean and organised room and said "Now tonight I'm gonna sleep really well!" THANK YOU!

Your husband sounds like mine in my videos! LOL Hilarious! Those were military unit emblems that were made both as patches to be sewn on uniforms and as commemorative pins. Agree that without any context to them, you don't know if they were units his dad was assigned to (most likely if he had them), but most of those units are no longer around. Someone at a VFW might know what they are or could be donated to a military surplus store as collectibles. But then you have to make time to manage the donation so agree you did the right thing.

I’ve struggled for years with being overwhelmed with stuff, but your method (and I’ve read and listened to lots of methods over the years) is the one that actually makes total sense to me. Wonderful! Thank you for showing us how it's done, Dana. You and your husband are great together! Terrific video!

I SOOO appreciated that! Thank you to you both! I am like your husband, keeping those cards and photos of other people's families etc etc. This was very helpful! I hope I will manage to be as successful as you both when I do mine!

I’m only 2 minutes into the video, but I think he needs a “Sass Level 7/10” shirt! 🤣 You two are great!

Hi Dana this is my first time watching your videos. Really enjoyed it. You and your husband did a great job. You are very patient and understanding when it came to him declutteeing his sentimental items.

That was really good, guys. Thank you. Yawning can sometimes be a release, especially after an emotional situation. Very natural body-mind process. In this instance it wasn’t indicating boredom. Cheers, 🌺🌻🌺

Lol, I have a boat load of stuff in my house from my husband’s old job of 30+ years. Wish my husband was as receptive to assistance in clarifying what needs to be done. You guys did good work together. ♥️

This weekend my husband and I started cleaning and decluttering our room. Many things were highly sentimental but we used your methods to help us make hard decisions. There were tears and emotions but we are feeling better the more we get rid of. It's giving us some freedom! Thank you Dana K. White! We appreciate what you have done for us and so many others! You may never know what a difference you are making. Thanks a million 😊

He's so handsome! And even though I do Flylady, I still use your method to declutter!
