My older sister brought home Paranoid a day or 2 after it’s release. I was 9 years old and was listening to the Monkee’s and the Banana Splits..! To say that album was an inspiration on me is By far, an understatement ! I started drumming professionally 7 years later and at 61.., I’m still out there.., but when Sabbath “Snubbed” Bill Ward on this tour ? I’ll never forgive them..!
Sabbath didn't snubb Bill on that tour, BW said he didn't want to do it because the management didn't offer him enough money, glad I saw the last incarnation in 1999
If you'd of watched any documentaries or even read the lyrics on Sabatage you would know that their management totally ripped them off esp on the first 4 albums , hole in the sky .................whachouttttttttttttttttttt

Then Bill started to pound on his sticks and counted 1. 2 3 4....and proceeded to carry the band most of set until the three started to sober up. I too miss Bill Ward but I have scene him in Huntington Beach a few times.
This is the exact angle and distance I was sitting only in Seattle for their final concert 2016. I've seen Bill Ward back in the late 70's and I prefer his drum solo over Clufetos.

First, let me say that I love Bill Ward's inimitable, groundbreaking drumming for Sabbath. That being said, Tommy did a great job filling in, and his Rat Salad solo was very impressive
As much as I love Bill and his drumming on the Ozzy era albums, I am really just astonished by the quotes “no Bill no Sabbath”. I think that Appice and Powell did both great job playing in Sabbath.
That guy isn't human. He beat the crap out of those drums. He plays fast and furious. I've never seen a drum solo like that in my life. He is better than Bill Ward in some respects. I wish I had a tough stable drum set like that one.
It's heavy, powerful I suppose, but lacks Bill's warmth and unpredictable swing. Tommy did a great job on the tour, but this solo is a bit machine like, stomp stomp stomp... no melodic adventurous fills running down the toms taking unexpected turns. There's no substitute for Bill at the top of his game.
As a drummer myself, I can see that Tommy's kit is a homage to the huge Ludwig kits and heavily influenced by Bill's drum setups during his era of sabbath and the 1970s era drum kits when it comes to concert toms and octobans.. but I've looked at numerous pictures of Tommy's kit during this tour and I'm still trying to figure out why he put a China cymbal infront of his two octobons as you can see from the video angle thats above his concert tom set up.. it doesn't make sense because with that China infront of it he is unable to hit or even play the octobons at all. Some things drummers add to their is mostly for aesthetics rather than playability.. but I don't get why drummers do stuff like that lol. Ive never drummed for a big band like sabbath but every touring act I have played for, everything Ive added to my personal kit for the band im playing for I actually play and if I'm not playing it or find no use for it.. it's not on my drum rack.
hey man looking for any free gear/drums/hardware/cymbals, etc or i can pay out a little bit of $ , trying to build a 4 piece kit to jam on , any help would be appreciated , thanks > tom
Apart from a lot of double kicks and wrist stretching exercises, we haven't heard much to talk about real rhytmic performance. But if that's enough to excite secular people, let's say he's fulfilled the contract for the show and the illusion people come out of their homes for.
He’s also using a foot pedal to add to the drum sounds. If you look closely he’s hitting the cymbals with both sticks but you also hear drums. It can be synthesized with a computer too. (See deaf leopards drummer)
In this long drum solo i still prefer Bill Ward on the drums and he was a hell of a drummer and showed everything that made him one of the greats in drumming solos way back then.
