- In the late summer of 2022, I lived off the grid for 9 weeks exploring and fly fishing some of the west's most remote streams. I recorded every day and started sharing my 9-week truck bed camping road trip after I returned home in mid-October. In part 26 of the truck bed camping road trip, I'm on a remote stream in Idaho that offers a world class wilderness fly fishing experience! The scenery and camping are what make this stream special! If I had to pick one stream in Idaho to return to every year...it would be this one!
I started my 9 week road trip on July 31, 2022, and spent roughly 3 weeks in WY, ID and MT. Check out all the videos from this trip in the playlist linked below:

4:40 and 6:44 are the same fish. You know the fishings food when you catch the same fish twice! That’s also a testament on how well you’re handling the fish and how fly fishing can have nearly zero impact on fish health if done correctly. Great video!
Living in Northern Idaho, we have so many streams like this... just incredible beauty and solitude- I know you appreciate it Drew.
Bonnie you truly live in one of the last pristine areas we have that are not trampled, over pressured and closed to public use. Hopefully we still have time to save it from what's happened to other neighboring states. Let's hope the future of all of these beautiful streams and watersheds remain plentiful, broader descriptions can help preserve this fragile environment. Beauty and solitude can only be preserved these days with the understanding of what social media can do to these precious places we have left. Thanks for sharing Drew.
Only transplants call North Idaho, “northern idaho”. 😂
@@primo450f pretty week attempt to make someone feel stupid for using proper terminology, silly man!
North Idaho is way overused by folks coming over from Washington and other places. It's far from pristine. I remember what it was like when I grew up here back in the 70's.
Get back there occasionally to my old places. Went there with my family in the 60's. It's still good. Magee, etc.
Love how you worked every depth of that stream segment, shallow to deep. Learn a lot watching you and I thank you for another amazing video!
Stanley, within 30 miles is one of my favorite plases to Trout fish! Thanks for this video, Drew!
Just admire the places and fish, that you find/catch. Really nice watching , when the snow lies outside and its frosty. Cheers Torben , Denmark
Thank u for watching! Cheers to a fishy season!
Wow Drew, you definitely have it figured out! I'm sure you wouldn't trade experiences like this for all the money imaginable! I know I wouldn't! Beautiful and so enjoyable to watch! Thank you!
Great Video Drew! I'm getting to travel this summer to Colorado,Utah,Idaho,Montana,Wyoming this July/Aug. for 1 month. But will only get one day per state to fish. Hats off to you finding these great back country streams. I'm in research mode now and its not easy to find just one or two spots to try that are not over-fished and crowded. Do you find most local fly shops giving good intel.? Hope to run into you this year to shake your hand!
You got the life my friend. Beautiful natural spawn cutthroats in a just as beautiful river. I think cutthroats are the strongest trout species I’ve ever fished and caught. Looked like a nice German brown and a Brookie in there to. What a river!😎👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
So many Idaho streams are like this. My fav day on my fav Idaho stream(river?), I caught brooks, bows and bulls all out of the same hole. Crazy.
Great video. Wondering what size tippet you were using and size of the perdigon dropper on such a clear stream. Thanks!
I am new to your videos.. do you ever keep any of the fish for cooking? My parents are from Montana and we fished there a few times. Fish Fry with rainbow trout. Yummy.
Super job mister, splendid creek and ciear magic water. Bravo!
Many thanks!
Your adventures keeps our dreams alive. NC trout are super fun, but out west is what is on the bucket list. Hope I make it. Until then thanks so much.
Beautiful day, beautiful reflections and clarity of the water. Peaceful and relaxing to watch you do your thing . Nice video Drew
Hard to go wrong when you have all those!
After watching with envy your many recent adventures thru MT and ID while at the same time wondering when "Old Man Winter" will finally release his grip on a few of my favorite streams in WY, its looking like next week will be my first "Cabin Fever" trip of 2023! YES!! 👍 Thanks for helping me endure the LONG WINTER while fishing vicariously alongside during your Rocky Mtn trips.
Sounds like a good time!
I still have fond memories of the St Joe Lochsa Jerry Johnson hot springs and Kelly creek from 1979 I live in NZ
That's my favorite also...for several reasons.
Not many like it!
Great video Drew. Looks like heaven to me!
Fantastic - I will leave it at that, just fantastic!
Brilliant. You just topped yourself.
Just keeps getting better!
Hi- you mentioned adding weight to your dry dropper setup. Where do you add the weight and wouldn’t it submerge the dry?
The fish were stacked like cordwood under that big rock. You did a great job of un-stacking them.
Super fun and I only shared ~15% of the fish...stream is incredible!
Beautiful, Drew!
That’s some of the fishiest water I’ve seen. When I win the lottery, I’m gonna offer you huge money to take me to that stream.
I’ll sign an NDA. Awesome work Drew
Deal lol!
aha, you came back! after two years to the "best trout stream in the US" Did you fish it any different this time? same rig?
Awesome Drew
Much appreciated!
Drew, I admire your methodologically way you fish the waters. Super.
I definitely have fun out there!
That is definitely about as good as it gets! Incredible stream
Very fine fishing indeed!!!
🐈⬛🐾🐈🐾👏👏👏👏
Fantastic cuts drew. I can't ever recall all my years of flyfishing, catching a fish with a fly in its mouth. I'm sure that cuttie appreciated you removing that fly. Enjoyed watching. 👍
I have caught a fish that broke me off and got my fly back once lol!
That looks like a magical place Drew. Another great video on a cold wintery day here in the frozen north land.
Magical is accurate!
It still blows my mind that there are that many trout in one hole or run out west!!! That’s insane!!!! Killer day again!!!!
It is definitely insane!
Great job again Drew, what scenery and adventure-Thank You! Would this stream beat out WY and MT or there are just to many great ones?! Take care!
Just different. Wyoming seems more open and not as lush...blew out really easy. MT has great access and some beautiful water but also intense scrutiny over access which kinda makes ot not fun.
When you go on these extended trips, are you fishing every day? About how many days during the week are you fishing? Thank you for showing these incredible rivers, it is much appreciated.
Yup, I try to fish every day. I add in some easy road side access like in the last video to rest up some but still fish!
Good to see you using a wading stick on the downhill approach. How long did it take you to climb out? On my last trip to the East Carson below the airport it took me 90 minutes to climb out and I was in decent shape.
Awesome video
Thank u!
How do you add weight to your dropper on a dry dropper rig? Are you just changing out the dropper for a heavier nymph or do you add shot?
Nice video, Drew. What distance did you cover wading or following this stream by foot?
What a wonderful day! Get's me so excited about the upcoming spring/summer. I'm in WA and have found one nice river that is productive like this. My son's inlaws have a cabin in Stanley. I'm hoping to begin off-roading a bit to get into more remote locations and am happy to bushwack a bit. Can you share how you go about finding streams like this? Do you blue line on maps or rely on locals to identify locations.
Drew, I found your "Secrets" video -- answers my question above! Thanks Richard
Drew, are you using an InReach Mini or some other satelite communication device. It appears that you are mostly fishing alone in very remote areas. I hope you're staying safe!
BTW. I really like the minimalist approach to your videos, with limited narrative, focused on the fishing, scenery, but the intro and closing sections are a nice touch too! Spectacular!
Those are some of the most
beautiful Cutthroat Trout anyone
would ever want to see, Drew.
It's easy to see why it's your favorite
Idaho stream.
Riverside, stunning trout and fish in every fishy looking spot...that's my idea of a perfect stream!
@LooknFishy
Can't argue at all. I've been through
that country and I think I have an idea
about your general location. Don't
worry, I won't say a word. Probably
wrong anyway. No matter.
There is a certain type of magic
that is hard to find these days.
Places like this have that magic
still and there are not many
of them.
Well, I must search for this stream 😊
You won't be disappointed if u find it!
Chubbuck ID isn't hard to find! Good luck, fall is the best!
@@chuckmorgan3049no way this is near Chubbuck
Allot of fish without moving from the first spot. Great stream.
Like that at every spot lol!
Drew that water looks cold for some reason?
Beautiful place. but the fish are too small. Try Stillwaters and catch bigger fish.
Special place for sure. I might not have come home 😂
Haha Definitely hard to leave some of these!
Great video! I am curious , when you are having that beer at the end of the day. Are you ever tempted to re rig and fish the end of day hatch. Say right before dark? Best!
Haha...you mean like in this vid...ruclips.net/video/ZNfZB4JzZGA/видео.html
Yup, always a temptation!😂
Nice!
Appreciated!
Man they were great cutthroats. Thanks for the Video.
What kinda truck u got?
GPS coordinates pls.. lol.
Haha I hear ya!
I fish the N. Fork and M. Fork of the B. all the time and enjoy the best gin-clear waters and drop-dead gorgeous scenery. Tight lines!
Have noted in my lifetime that many people name kids after cool Western states. Luckily they do not choose Idaho.
Haha...and dogs!
I've used both and honestly welded is by far better and easier to work with, I think people who like nails knots are basing there reasons on older lines and rods and forget technology has come a long way
Yet another river he claims is the best - but never tells you where it is
What area of Idaho is this? This is the dream trout stream
He's going to hog it for himself...
@@garfield8900 I've noticed there is never a stream name, county name or close by town.
