And been waiting 10 years for a new stock compressor and eq. Maybe Reason version 11... maybe? Shouldn't have to buy effects from the RE shop. All other pro DAWs come with way better stock comps...period. We deserve them already!
You two guys are amazing! Clever and step by step...This is so important when dealing with a Midas kind of synth like this, because it's so complete and easy to use, but can be threatening at first look. Thank you Mattias + Ryan!
@7:51 so basically it means that Propellerheads still have not add a feature to play samples changing pitch but not changing time.... This has been requested for many many years already. This feature is already there forever in other samplers such as Kontakt.
Or how about a theremin and making it sound even weirder? Or bringing in the audio from classic RUclips videos with a theremin in it like this one: ruclips.net/video/EkTpUxh8Vxc/видео.html

This creative tool alone makes the Reason 10 price worth it. Plus you get a whole lovely designed DAW (very stable on my mac mini OSX 10.12.6), and after i used Reason 10y ago now they have also Audio Tracks. Enough for me to move from Cubase 6.5 over to Reason. And never needed the book as its self explaining. Great tool. Ah - and my VST synths run also in Reason without Rewire and all this buggy connectors. Great job.
Great guys, think you got me hooked again on buying your newest version again! For someone having grown up with hardware and sick midi connections, blowing fuses, burning MPC power supplies, then going to a mix of that and the cave days of synth and sampling emulation, directed by soft sequencers, I got stuck with your stuff since the early days. And the REASONs are so obvious. It just feels so home to me to use a virtual hardware rack, and even 500% more due to the fact to be able to turn it around and patch my way to Rome as I want. Ableton, Cubase, and all the others get me a dry mouth and make me feel working in Metropolis. Those seem to be there to kill all our creativity and to make us board the VST train. Since the early days, nothing gets close to the experience of working with your ones and zeros; no one tried to copy your approach, they just knew they would mess with their master. After being forced to leave "the path" to make a living for my precious beings and me, I'm now back where I belong. And just decided to stick with my long time companion. So thanks so, so much again for getting me hooked. P.S.: only one thing to point out: Plaid is something different than what you guys are wearing. I connected LFO CV Out from Subtractor to NN19 CV Gate In and swept the sample start in Reason back in 2001, it'll be nice with a new take on that workflow :D
does anyone know if theres a way to save your envelope pattern to use for another patch on another Grain Manipulator, so that you don't have to draw in the envelope pattern everytime you want to use it?
As far as I can see, there's no user presets. I think that's a great feature request, though. It wouldn't be difficult from a technological standpoint. However, you can export the envelope as CV, so you could save a whole synth patch just for the envelope and use it wherever you want.
Wow ... I am impressed ! - I realy love that new Grain-Sampler ... Hope to get my hands on it soon. I entered the Beta Test Program. Don´t know if Ryan capture the sound directly from the source notebook, or if he captured it with a soundcard to another streaming device. But there are some micro glitches (such tickling noises) ... maybe it could be from the beta. But for the presentation of new features it would be nice, if the sound would also be perfect, as we know it from reason. (Please make a soundcheck before you stream ...) ... But enough of that. You really did a well presentation of that nice device. Please, let me in for betatest! Or - Take my money and sell it toooooo me :)
Oh believe me, we soundcheck before we stream. There were some ticks in this stream but it wasn't in Mattias' Grain-running laptop. It was somewhere else in the signal chain, either the audio coming over to my streaming machine or some glitches from the computer doing live mic mixing and live camera input and switching, live stream encoding, and running all the other tech to make this work. On top of that we had a mic cable dying during the stream so you hear phantom power on the mic clicking and sputtering. It was one of those nights when if it can go wrong, it would go wrong. I chopped it out of this section but I also had my mic die during the live stream and had to have a new mouse brought into me! sheesh! :) /ryan
The initial bell loop sounds just like a portion of the track Iglooghost did on Boiler Room CrowdSourced. That video was also my introduction to Reason.
This is awesome! I would also love having a sample player where you can play slices with midi notes. I know you can do it in rex but i also would love to edit each slices start and end. Anyway this upgrade is great keep ut up guys!
I bet they will eventually make their way into the prop shop... probably right around the release of Reason V11. They'll dirty d@ck Us loyal users just like they did with Radical Piano. Listen to your cash cows, I mean, customers. Or start looking for new jobs. Our voices are growing louder and our patience is growing thin. Redeem yourselves with the Version 10.5 upgrade, please!!
the new synths should be in the shop and this should be 9.6 with issues addressed such as improved DSP, sub mixing, proper recycle implementation and GUI zoom. Just got the incredible Kron RE but damn, I can barely read the writing on it. programming synths on reason can be frustrating at times. competition is fierce and new adapters aren't going to be as loyal as the long time users.
So, I saw Waves had released a new sampler called CR8. I know Reason also released their Mimic sampler recently. So, I started playing around with CR8, and it somehow made it click to me what sampling a sound is and manipulate it. This got me curious as I had remembered way back seeing the demo for Grain Sampler. Found this video, and I immediately realized that CR8 is a baby grain Sampler. So I'm learning it. Now my powers are being released, hahaha.
I'm not sure what we've touched on except to say that no such thing exists. I'll never understand why people think DAWs have a "sound". Instruments have a sound, sure... I'm not sure where this idea came from but for years Reason was a closed system of unique instruments. You couldn't get the sounds that Reason synths made anywhere but Reason and you couldn't use VST synths in Reason. In that world - I think this weird notion of a "reason sound" came about... it was weird even back then but that it's persisted now that Reason is an open playground of VST synths and Rack Extensions, the idea is completely meaningless. But that doesn't stop people from having an opinion based on something they heard once by someone who probably didn't know what they meant even back then. :) Audio myths have a way of living on, regardless of truth. Don't even get me started on the myth of the MPC's legendary shuffle!! :D /ryan
Thought this would be just another granular synth, but there’s Serum kind of wavetables (granular oscillator) and spectral stuff as well in an inviting UI! This is finally a step towards Logic’s Alchemy, but in a unique way. Too bad Reason doesn’t perform too efficiently with VSTs yet and lacks many essential features, but it’s still a unique platform with it’s own strengths.
Alchemy always annoyed me with its multi gb library and endless preset list, for me it was an endless search for a sound and never really found anything in there that I actually ended up using. On the odd occasion when I did find a sound I used, it annoyed me that the Alchemy library takes up 8gb and I’m only using a single sound from it. Grain looks much more immediate, faster, I think I will find usable sounds much quicker here
I can't wait to see what textures you can get from acoustic guitars and chuck a ton of reverb on it and play around with the sample on Grain. I bet it'll be well nice sounding. Great vid guys. :)
This thing is realy similar to Proton rack extention, but i wish doing that with Parsec or Maelstorm i mean using our own generate wave table for other synth architecture.
I love this, but do we really need both hosts? I think Mattias was doing fine. One question for Mattias or anyone at Propellerhead who is still watching these threads: So, the FFT size in the spectral grains engine -- is that a hard-coded range, or some percentage of length the whole loaded sample? Is the range scanned linearly or exponentially? In other words, if I load a 20s sample, and set the FFT size to say... 20, does that mean that the synth will perform the FFT over the exact same time as a 2m sample, or will it be longer for the longer sample? And if it's the same, would the jump from 20 to 40 be the same as 40 to 60? I can imagine that would become CPU heavy very quickly, but it'd allow or a much cleaner fundamental.
That doesn't seem like a fair deal Ryan. I've got my reason 9 a bit over an year. Shouldn't be more then 50 dollars for reason 9 owners in my opinion. Best regards
Yes and no. Recycle lets you edit Rex files in ways you can't on the sequencer/timeline, but you can slice and export your audio as rex2 files and import them into Dr. Octorex. I've never found the additional features useful, though, so I didn't wind up buying Recycle.
...and people new to this should realise, that a VST standalone plugin of such an advanced, jaw dropping machine as The Grain Sample Manipulator would cost them around 500$+. This thing is just unbelievable...
Audio input wouldn't work because Grain works by selecting grains across the whole sample range and moving around in non-linear ways so it wouldn't be abble to do either of those things if audio and grains are occuring in real time. /ryan
Thats dope reason users needed that. Its better then expectected. All we need now is a reason midi controllor. Something like how ableton has the push2 that would take evrything reason has to offer to another level

I'm wondering if the update to reason 10 from 9.5 is free or do we have to pay for the update?... Looks and sounds great though
It costs somewhere around 130 dollars to upgrade from a previous version, but if you bought Reason 9 after September 1st, it's free.
You can find the answer on the Propellerheads website
I think iZotope Iris 2 does the same thing?
Pretty much lol always going to be other companies with similar things.
Ahh, good, could not watch live.
Great video guys, although the question guy is off-topic most of the time.
Am I retarded? What do I press to play the audio clip with my edits? I just keep getting my unedited audio back....
are you #RonJeremy son ? :-D
Thats dope reason users needed that. Its better then expectected. All we need now is a reason midi controllor. Something like how ableton has the push2 that would take evrything reason has to offer to another level
I would load up Smash Mouth - All Star, grain the shit out of it and play Smash Mouth - All Star with it.
Neeed Instant Beta Access!!!
God just let one guy talk
My dream come true... Thank you Props :D
Fun Fact : The secret name of this synth was “ambient orgasm” while in development.
It's everything I love about padshop pro, but better and easier to apply! Propellerhead continues to be the best.
What´s the difference between Grain sampler and Maelstrom?
This is why i always keep Reason within reach. This is the takeover, Hands down!!!
