Thanks for posting. Just an FYI, the correct spelling is Gayle Caldwell (not Gale). And yes, this is a cover of Chad & Jeremy's " A Summer Song". Chad Stuart later produced a Gayle's solo album on A&M Records. This record included Gayle's version of her own timeless song, "Cycles". This song has since been covered by many artists including Frank Sinatra and more recently, Rickie Lee Jones. In 2008, Gayle Caldwell released a wonderful solo CD titled, "All Is One".
Given the setting and camera work, this definitely was a performance on Dick Clark's daily pop variety show "Where The Action Is" (WTAI). That means this was shot somewhere in or around the Los Angeles area and was broadcast sometime between June of '65 and March of '67. It's a very nice snapshot of this comparatively obscure) duo; with Jackie looking different than she normally did because of that classic mid 60s "bun" hairstyle.
This is a much more soothing version of Summer Song. Much more visually appealing as well. Is this a cover or the original? It's a bit before my time. Great post by the way.
This clip is not from "Where The Action Is" but instead is from a special presentation of the syndicated show "Hollywood A Go-Go" shot on location in Hawaii, tltled "Aloha A Go-Go", from July 1965. "Where The Action Is" did, in fact, regularly tape segments in Hawaii as well.
