    Im From L.A. I went to GRant H.S. (Arenas HS). I only had the chance to go to 1 laker game and it was against the wizards, watching gilbert and Kobe go add it was something i'll never forget.

      Yeah 100% and he was a great coach for his girls. I wish we could have seen what he would've done with the 2nd half of his life, I don't think he would have gone back to the NBA though. He quenched his thirst for that with 60 I reckon lol. He would have encouraged from the sidelines like he did with Rob now being our GM but he was starting to lay the foundations for a just as great legacy in his storytelling passion

    The difference between the two: Arenas wakes up early when Kobe is in town to watch him and let him know he's someone to remember. Kobe wakes up every day early, first and foremost to polish his game and to let EVERYONE know that he's The guy to (not) beat.

    Not sure ID hire Gil for coaching maybe player development but im not sure he has mindset that would benefit the team value as to individual player. Just based on his mindset not sure he can teach from team perspective I think hes a yr lue not a sure he has the understanding of offensive system. He night be able to impact certain players maybe not your whole.

      @@CamelSportsWorld he said he grew up watching Kobe in high school. Kobe entered the league in 96. In 96 I was 16 and a junior I’m high school. Gil said Kobe was the idol of his generation and Jordan was the ideal of our parents generation. I disagree. I was born in 1980. From 92-98 when the bulls were winning (overall) I was 12-18. So I saw Jordan do his thing in person. 55 at the Garden, I was there. I’m less than 2 years younger than Kobe.

      @@Kayodoms I’m not a hopper?! I definitely am. What would make you say that? Jordan as an aging legend? My point was Jordan was just hitting his prime when I was growing up. Jordan was only in the league a handful of years when he started winning. All I am saying is, at the age I am, and Gil was, we should have seen both enter the league and reach prime status. Same with Lebron. I understand the hoopers now that are 18-23 (or so) saying they grew up on Kobe and Jordan was passed tense.

      You're right. Gil was born in 1980 too, I think. And he is speaking as though Kobe was a lot older than him that he grew up idolizing. When in reality, Kobe was only two years older than him. MJ or the players of his generation should have been the ones that Arenas grew up idolizing because Kobe and Gilbert were in the same generation.

    It's funny that most people thought Kobe was aloof and distant but we are finding out he was nothing like that unless he saw you had the same drive as he did. He influenced so many players and everyone thought he was shutting everyone out...in the game, yes, but off the court, no.
