In my 89 yrs on this earth I will say that, except for Dick McEntire and Jerry Byrd, I have NEVER heard any play so sweet and smooth as Jeff Au Hoy on the steel guitar; when it comes to Hawaiian music. He also has an awesome singing talent. It is extremely listenable.
Rudi Wairata was the best steel guitarist that ever lived.I must say that I loved Dick McIntyre playing.Beautiful player.Jerry good too but not my favourite by a long shot.
My father was from Denmark, but learned Hawaiian steel from the 30’s on. He looked like a European Elvis Presley- this style of playing reminds me so much oh him-love it!
How wonderful. I'm lucky that I've had the pleasure of visiting the Hawaiian Islands twice in my life from my homeland of Wales UK .a sixteen hour flight. Always loved the steel guitar , because of my late parents playing the music in our house as a child ..
Jeff is mighty good on that fry pan! From 1948 to 1959 my father had me playing Hawaiian style steel music. That’s your love when you spend a long period on the Island in the Navy during WWII.
As one old enough to have appreciated the shortwave broadcasts of Hawaii Calls, I am excited to be able to awaken those old, wonderful feelings with this marvelous artist! Mahalo!
Not sure how I came across this concert, Bob but I’m very pleased I have. Music of this gene has a magical effect on me. I remember when I was a boy my father used to have records of Hawaii music (I’m in my mid seventies now) and to come across this very talented musician is a great joy to me. Greetings from New Zealand 🇳🇿.
In my opinion he speaks the Hawaiian music without an accent ! All the other steel players Emmons, Reece, Hartley all have their niche but no one in my opinion plays Hawaiian style to his perfection. Jerry Byrd was the best in his day but Jeff has raised the bar just like athletics.I am going on 90 yrs and started with a Hawaiian teacher which made me very cognizant of the technique the Hawaiian style requires. My opinion Jeff you are today's BEST !
I had pleasure and honor to see and meet Jeff several times while visiting in Hawaii. What a thrill it was for me. Thanks Jeff for sharing your great talent.
Jeff,'I wish my Dad was here to enjoy your beautiful voice and your excellent steel playing. He played in a band years ago and this is what he played the most. I play lap steel too and I can sure learn form you. I've played this video over and over again. Outstanding music. Thank you very much.
Finally I find another with the awesome feeling/tone/touch/soul, everything!...to the max!....this is how you express on this expressive instrument, thanks Jeff, love it!...
Some of the most beautiful music and sining, remindsme of when I was young. And we listened to music live from the islands every week , during the late 40s and 50s. Reminds of my beautiful aunt, who was Hawaiian. We loved her so much, one hour very favorite ants. If we were lucky, we could get her to do the hula for us. Such a beautiful dance very graceful. I miss those days and miss my Hawiian cousins, some I never got to see . Would love to get to see all of them before I die. Louise Lesie, Simon
Extremely great talent. Good voice and able to do what very few steel guitar players can, accompany himself while singing. The very best of all the contemporary Hawaiian steel players.
Jeff Au Hoy is amazing! Been so honored to see him wave slide on one of his vintage Ebay boards like a true master as well! Just brings you back to a kinder, gentler time.....
When I was a young child and we would be coming home from church the local radio station .played the weeks obituaries with Jerry Byrd playing in the background. I thought when people died they must go to Hawaii. They never mentioned it in Sunday School though.
Thanks for a video of high enough quality to match the excellence of these musicians, Fantastic set. I didn't realize Jeff sings so well. Nice harmony from Ed Punua. Always a pleasure to hear Gerald Ross play anything. Did GR do a set on steel? I'd enjoy that too. There should be more of both Jeff and Gerald on the net.
Who can’t hear the Texas Swing in this masterful music? American musicians copy- catted this beautiful sound and called it country or Western Swing or whatever. We owe our musical souls to Hawaiians!!! LOVE the first tune!
The new mistro no doubt. Looking at what he does with his thumb and little finger makes me wonder what is going on down under there. That is a.lot of music for just 6 strings and 2 hands.
Well "whatayaknow"! Many yrs ago, Jeff said something not kind about Jerry Byrd on the SGF; and I came off my chair and blasted him in no uncertain terms. He later tried to smooth this over in a post on the SGF and I would not accept it. I should not have done that. Butt time does change things. I apologize for that because it was trite and wrong. This is the FIRST time I ever heard Jeff play. And I now agree, that JB should not have rebuked Jeff as he did in their early acquaintance, JB could be arrogant at times but still THE greatest lapsteel Player and he had a good heart. He just said TOO much at times and got him in a lot of trouble.. Jeff, you have a great touch. Keep it up. And may Jesus bless you and yours always.
Hi Pat Rudi Wairata in my opinion and among others is the best lapsteel guitarist ever. George de fretes was another great player. I like Jeff Au hoy and Jerry Byrd but to many Rudi Wairata was the best .... regards and best wishes Derek
Boa tarde camarada. Tambem nao consegui identificar a musica.
Fantastic music from Jeff, what a great talent. I have always loved Hawaiian music.
A fan from Australia. Aloha.
Real hawaiian music is definitely a favorite of mine. I just love tropical music.
Those old Rickenbacker's sound so beautiful. Of course Mr Au Hoy is amazing.

I am so impressed as well.......I grew up and live in Hawaii and have never seen or heard anything this good.

His harmonics blow my mind, what touch and control!
A true modern day classic is Jeff Au Hoy on the steel guitar.
Thank you for posting. Jeff Au Hoy is a great entertainer.

Absolutely beautiful, My Dad learned the guitar at a very young age and played all of his life.. A beautiful instrument!
The tremolo, slanting the bar for harmonics & the chimes-transforms one to paradise-Thank you🌺🌈💕

Love the Hawaiian Guitar. We had a couple of Hawaiian Bands in Penang, Malaysia, in the 50s.
Love your Rendition.
I missed this hawaiian music, Jeff Hoy brings it to life.

Extremely great talent. Good voice and able to do what very few steel guitar players can, accompany himself while singing. The very best of all the contemporary Hawaiian steel players.
The grace of his hands with the sound is an extension of his soul. A natrual expression from a master. Aum.
Very good voice and play steel guitar, I do not understand but his voice so warm. Thanks. I like this videos.
Brilliant musician, lovely voice, beautiful language. What more can you ask for?

I agree, Jeff Au Hoy is the Jake Shimabukuro of the steel guitar.
Does he have to play Queen songs to get noticed?

This is all so beautiful. Can anyone tell me the name of the song at 35:32?
