    Say hello to the new Vauxhall Grandland X, the brand's newest and biggest SUV. After driving the Crossland X a little earlier this year and experiencing a bit of disappointment, I was unsure of what to expect from the Grandland X. This is the second model to built on a PSA Group platform - the first was the Crossland X - so could this be an improvement? I took one for a first drive to find out.
    The model tested here is the Elite Nav model, which is priced from £26,660 and is sat just below the range-topping Ultimate model. It comes with goodies such as leather seats, wireless phone charging, sat nav, heated front seats, 19" alloys, Safety Pack and dual-zone climate control to name a few, but if that is out of your budget, then don't worry as the base model still offers a good amount of features.
    There is a choice of three engines, one petrol and two diesel, with the former on test here. It's a 1.2 litre turbocharged petrol unit, which offers 128bhp with 230NM of torque, and is mated to a 6-speed manual, although an automatic is available if desired. It will hit 62mph in 11.1 seconds and the top speed is 117mph. Power is fed to the front wheels and there is no option of four wheel drive.

    I like the look of the Grandland X and from what I have seen it's a good all round SUV. What I don't get is why reviewers always go on about the handling and feedback from the steering etc as if it's some sort of sports car? Let's face it, it was designed for family's, school runs and general running about, which is exactly what it does. It looks good, drivers well, has plenty of space and is well equipped.

      Hi Stig qwe, thanks for watching. The Grandland X is indeed a competent car, and thankfully it's better than the Crossland X, which I found rather disappointing. However, I just don't think it has quite enough to compete in the heavily saturated SUV market. I do think it will be a decent seller for Vauxhall though, just not a best-seller in the segment.
      Regarding the steering/handling, car reviewers will pick up on this when reviewing any car, it's just part and parcel of assessing a car. Granted, most people buying this car won't give a damn about the handling, but at the same time I'm sure they would want to know if it handles like a barge.

      Agree, I’m tired of seeing review where they talk about that and sometimes don’t even talk about the confort.
      I care about two thing:
      1- is it confortable? I want a smooth ride.
      2- is it safe?
      For the rest, it can lean in the corner all it want like an old 2cv, I don’t care, it’s not supposed to be sporty.

    Another good video, thank you. I think the exterior of this SUV looks good but I won't be swapping my 3008 SUV for it - I love the stylish interior of the 3008. I bought the 1.2 auto because I was fed up with using a manual box in traffic (mainly the M6). Interestingly, a couple of reviewers mentioned that the Peugeot manual gearbox was a bit poor on the 1.2L version: so it looks as if Vauxhall have just taken it off the shelf.

      Hello Pete, thanks for watching. I found the gear change is noticeably better in the Vauxhall compared to the Peugeot.

    This is the only review of this car that gives engine and performance details. Well done.

      No worries Fred, I always make sure I include this information as for me, these are basic (and arguably essential) details of any car. Obviously, it may not be the determining factor for a car like this as it's not built for speed of course, but for me, it's still key information. Thanks for watching Fred. 👍

      Hello Keith, thanks for the feedback - I was going by the information on Vauxhall's press release, which checking back, is a bit misleading. Thanks for watching.

    Great review, as ever, it's a handsome vehicle. Nowhere near as classy as the Pug, but a nice looking car. But the current obsession (excuse the pun) with SUVs and crossovers is getting a bit old, for me.

    • @CarObsession
      @CarObsession  6 лет назад +2

      Haha, yes, I must confess, testing SUVs does get a bit repetitive, but it's what buyers want at the moment, and it is interesting to see how different brands take a different approach to what they believe makes a good SUV. However, it will be interesting to see what the market looks like in the 5-10 years.
      Remember when MPVs were so prominent in the market, but who really cares about them now? This is why Peugeot turned the new 5008 in to an SUV rather than keeping it as an MPV.
      Thanks for watching!

      Know what? As a utilitarian former commercial vehicle buyer, I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but I hope it brings a bit of form over function and style - a few more affordable coupes and innovative hatchbacks rather than models they just then stick on stilts and call crossovers and SUVs - that said I get why people like a higher driving position and a feeling of security (obviously illusory in the main) .....

    • @CarObsession
      @CarObsession  6 лет назад +1

      Yup, but brands have to produce what's popular, which is why you have brands such as Lamborghini, Bentley, Skoda and SEAT making SUVs for the first time.

      Yep, and isn't that bizarre? The Bentley Bentayga, which I'm not sure whether is Halle Berry or Halley's Comet (i.e. stunningly beautiful, or best off travelling into space in the pitch dark).

    • @klackon1
      @klackon1 6 лет назад +1

      For me the Bentayga is the latter: the new Bentley Continental GT, however, is most definately the former.

      It is yeah, I quite like the colour. It can look a bit navy in some lights, but it does look good when the light catches it and the purple starts to show more. Thanks for watching Baronoli.

    i really dont get why reviews make a big deal on the info media system and wireless charging is a big thing...let me tell you its not..it as cheap as it it useless..its not a selling point to increase the price of an over rated vehicle. it costs about 50 quid to put this into a vehicle and you people think its ok to charge premium money to get it as an extra. all this is available on most smart phones and its better on the phones. ..bluetooth is standard on most things..its no big deal..overpriced and questionable quality ...no thanks...

    • @CarObsession
      @CarObsession  5 лет назад

      Hello baz mor, on the wireless charging front, I'd say it's because it's because it's still a relatively new feature to cars. Give it 5 years and it will probably be a feature you'd *expect* in cars - much like air conditioning. In regards to the infotainment systems, these are an important area of modern cars as it's a feature you'll spend a lot of your time interacting with. So if it's no good, it may put buyers off. Let me give you an example; I'm currently reviewing the Honda Jazz and let me tell you, it's one of the worst infotainment systems I've ever used and I'd hate to have to live with it.
      Thanks for watching, and for commenting.
