I had to put my Schipperke, Jingles to sleep a couple of months ago. He was 4 days shy of being 16 years old. He was the most extraordinary creation of any species I have ever known. His presence alone was just so unique, he had an amazing ora.
My wife and I have a little male. We didn't know he was a schipperke until yesterday. The lady that gave him too us said he was a pomchi. She even showed pics of the supposed parents. We had always questioned why he looked nothing like a pomchi but took her at her word. Yesterday however, while my wife was out at the pharmacy, a lady asked her what kind of dog he was and when my wife told her he was a pomchi, another woman overheard and said, "no he's not, he's a schipperke". She then proceeded to show them pictures of hers. We were blown away. We'd never heard of the breed. He's the greatest little guy we've ever had. Looks just like this one. If anyone is thinking about getting one, I'd highly recommend it. First however, be prepared to work for it. They are very energetic, pig headed, intelligent and strong willed. If you like going for walks, they're the dog for you. They're also very loyal.
hrsqsiest we had exact same experience ..we got sold a pomchi only to recently discover she is a schiperkee. .mirror image of this dog ..wouldn't swap her for the world ..her behaviour is stereo typical of a schiperkee as well ..wonderful breed that we couldn't live without ..her brother in the litter was exactly the same also
Really happy to see you didn't remove his tail! A lot of people say they look better that way, but I think it's cruel to mutilate your pet so you can feel like it looks better. Quite frankly, I think it looks weird, and I always feel sorry for the dogs they do that to!
They are wonderful with children. You'd need to keep the kids from hurting them. They're tough little dogs, but they're LITTLE and can be . And Schipperkes have a very long memory for things like that.
Jekku is the most precious thing, I've watched all his videos! I was wondering if I could ask his trainer/owner/this video's uploader - are schipperkes really that difficult to handle, as they say in pretty much every description on the internet? Do they need constant exercise and activation? Do they walk all over you if you're not careful? I want a schipperke so bad, but I'm also afraid I'm too "weak" for the schipperke, like I wouldn't be enough. Jekku seems so sweet.
They all have their own personalities but with the typical Schipperke you need to be firm with them or they will do what they want to do . They also need to be very well socialized and exposed to all sorts of situations from as young as possible . But mostly they are a high energy , agile , super smart , inventive and curious dog with tons of personality tending to be little comedians who want to be involved in everything you do and are highly trainable if you take the time to do it . Schipperkes are devoted to their families and make very good watch dogs and they can also be very loving when they have the time . You don't need to exercise them a bunch or give them things to do they will do that all on there own , just make sure they're not off somewhere making mischief and they will want to play with you a lot if you are their only playmate , I got two so they could wear each other out . Worked out well . If you want a dog that just lays around all day a Schipperke is not for you , but if you like the above and are ready for a constant source of entertainment , best dog ever !
How much does Jekku weigh? My Schipp is 18 lbs. We are trying to loose weight. I don't think He would do in a front bike basket at his size. I made a special rear basket for him, not sure if he likes it. So far just practicing in the drive. I have a very short leash onto a harness. either way it would be better if I could get him down to at least 15 lbs. I love your dog videos!

I have owned 3 Schipperkes myself in the past. My last one passed away a month before I came to Thailand.

Jekku weighs about 5 kg, which would be 11 lbs. I hope you and your Schipp will enjoy cycling together and thanks for the comment!
