Can we make this using oil pastels on a canvas? Will it work?

I think it will work..only problem is if the canvas is not fine grain then it will be difficult for the pastels to fill in the textures

Very good work and for black object if possible kindly use 10b or 8b pancile , it will give you good results.

I tried blending with fingers but my fingers got blisters due to heat of friction. I can't understand how much pressure to apply to blend colors. Can u help out in this?

U can use folded pieces of paper,, or a cloth piece to blend,,
Just medium pressure on the fingers to blend,, clean the fingers in between with a pieace of cloth,, practice it,,if you are not able to do it with fingers try doing it with cloth or paper!!

Sorry for late reply trisha didnt see your reply,
first press the masking tape on any cloth if you are scared it will tear off the paper,, when we do like that it helps to reduce the stickiness,, and i do it that way when i work on important projects,,so there is no risk
