    I took a long time to find my favorite shoe for rucking events. What is your favorite shoe?

    You can tuck the laces once drawn closed located at the top of tongue (knows as the "lace garage").

      I run in the winter here in E. Canada. I put short gators on and a pair of yaktrax run. My heel stays snug with a somewhat thicker pair of socks.

    I worn this shoes overtime that the heels of the shoes were torn out. Also the sole of the shoes were lossing its grip prior of me using it as a hiking shoes and casual shoes. It may torn out because of the way how I worn it or just the narrow heel part. Other wise its a good shoe also considering that this was on the holiday sale at REI.

      I could see that depending on the terrain. Using them for Goruck events, you’re constantly changing terrain, but that’s part of being a better American!

      @@RyandMcKinney here Im living a bi cultural life of being Japanese and American. Having this shoe is also another way of saying companion. Prefecting the sole until it worn out. I worn this in Japan and pair of these costed $120 or ¥12000 to be exact. Thank goodness I bought it here. 👍

    With the salomon XA PRO 3D gtx (gore tex) on 5 pairs bought all had problems taking off on the front part of his shoes! 4 are returned as warranties the latter accepted. A refund is preferable since with an exchange your guarantee does not renew, if you are 6 months from the end of warranties and if your new pair have a problem after 7 months it is lost. Solomon fully assumes his two-year guarantee without any worries! It's been 2 years since I bought new Solomon GTX hoping that the detachment worries is solved, there on my last pair bought about 5 months ago the problems happen;when using in wet places the tip of my sock begins to be wet sign of detachment, shoes inspected proof of start peeling on the front part of the shoe. In addition the Salomon XA PRO 3 D GTX have the face crampons very hardy even in soft use. On the other hand on the Solomon XA PRO 3 D no problem of detachment, by the same problems of endurance of the crampons.

    I have these in the mid-height, goretex version. They were extremely comfortable out of the box, but gave me blisters on both heels rather quickly. I now apply moleskin before any long treks and have no issues. I’ve taken them on two elk hunting trips and love the comfort and light weight, however I’ve found them not be waterproof on several occasions and they do not dry out quickly. I recently purchased the Salomon Quest 4D GTX to gain a bit stiffer feel with more ankle support and hopefully more reliable “waterproofness” but have already had some issues with damp feet. Besides the waterproof issue, both boots have been great but cold wet feet can ruin your day...

      Agree on the cold wet feet part ruining your day. For my intended use I got the non-gortex non-waterproof ones. They dried out ok.
      Love to hear more about the elk hunting treks! Where can I learn more?

    How did the width in the heel feel over time? They started off narrow and tight, did they end up feeling better? I just bought these today in wide as well. My only complaint initially was heel width...

    • @RyandMcKinney
      @RyandMcKinney  6 лет назад +1

      Ronald Haskins mine were a little tight, but not uncomfortable. The do “break in” a little as you wear them, but if they are uncomfortable after 10 miles or so on them I’d return them.

    Hi, I wanted something for flat-footed people. How are these for them? How is the arch support? According to a few review websites, these are good for flat-footed people. Please confirm. It will be of great help. Thanks.

    How do you know if you got the wide or narrow version?

    • @RyandMcKinney
      @RyandMcKinney  6 лет назад +1

      Good question. It will have wide inside the shoe next to the size. Or if you haven’t bought yet you can see the indication for wide on the box. If no wide indication it is a standard shoe.

    Great review. How's the sizing? Stores in my area don't carry Salomons so I'll have to order online. I've heard they run a whole size small. I'm doing a GORUCK Tough then Light right after. Wanting a good shoe for the event that drains well and comfortable.

    • @RyandMcKinney
      @RyandMcKinney  6 лет назад +1

      Rasheem Graham the sizing seemed true to size for me. I went wide because I knew we would cover 40+ in 24 hours and would have some swelling as a result. On a normal day, the wide version is a little too wide, but easily adjusted for me with the laces.

    Nice review. You're funny sometimes. I just ordered these. Looking for something in between a hiking show and a trail runner. From what I've read, and what you said in review, seems maybe this is the shoe for me.
    I just realized this vid is a few years old. How do you feel in 2021 about the XA?
    (My current/previous shoe was the North Face Ultra 109. Small down rubbed on side. So I'm hoping this XA will be wider for toes. Ordered the wide).

      It’s a few years old but I’m on my second pair. Still a great shoe for cross terrain. A little heavy for a long distance running shoe but still an awesome hoof cover.

    In the end too expensive has the sight of the qualities and endurance of this pair, Salomon has like many them a policy of reducing blows by manufacturing these products in low strokes countries which results in a huge loss of quality while increasing prices year after year! Solomon loses his superb, it's sad.
    Au final trop chère a la vue de la qualités et l'endurance de cette paire ,Salomon a comme beaucoup eux une politique de diminution des coups en fabricant ces produits dans les pays a bas coups ce qui se traduit par une énorme perte de qualités tout en augmentant les prix année après année !Salomon perds de sa superbe ,c'est triste .
