- Here's a video of my meeting with legendary writer and director Clive Barker this past weekend! Mr. Barker was kind enough to offer me some amazing advice about my writing! Unfortunately, my hand drifted away, so you can't actually see him in a lot of the video, but you can still hear all the wonderful things he has to say and that's what's important!
No ego, just an experienced workman showing a novice workman the ropes....
This master took the time of day to chat for 3 minutes on how to help a fellow creator get a book published. RESPECT!
That's the answer of someone who genuinely cares about storycraft.
Agreed.
What a great guy seems like he genuinely wants to help.
carl royle Yeah, he’s an amazing writer and person.
My God his voice is so so much better! I hope he continues to recover cause he's looking fabulous
Great stuff. Didn't blow you off with a tired cliché but took his time to give you an actual answer. What a gentleman!
Yeah, he really did his best to give me some great encouragement.
I know everyone's sad at Mr. Barker's health, but seriously, he looks hugely improved from how he was maybe 7-8 years ago. You can actually understand his voice again and he seems more energetic now.
Great conversation you had with him. His voice so different then the raspy voice. I hope he feels better. Huge fan!
I just started reading Barker. This man has changed my world
Thank you beyond words for uploading this, seriously thank you.
It was my pleasure.
He looks much better than he did earlier this year, thank heavens! He's recovering! :) All the best to the master!
@Fuzzy McBabyHead To put it short, several things happened to him in an unfortunate sequence of events. Mostly health-related. Aging doesn't help, but it's not a primary thing. Hope he pushes through the crucible because we need more of his work. Even when his novels don't come together all that well, one has to admire the ambition and prose aesthetics.
@PerrySport His voice sounds amazing compared to how it did a few years ago. As for the rest of him, well he has aged tremendously.
@Frank Fuentes theres medication to keep that under control. its very effective.
I think he has h.i.v
The fact that he took the time to answer that extensively really shows his generous nature.
It truly breaks my heart seeing him like this.. I mean, he’s looking much better, but being such a fan of his work all my life.. it hurts seeing him this way 😢 I really hope to get the opportunity to meet him ❤️❤️❤️
Reminds me of when I met Val Kilmer at a convention in 2019. A couple months after his throat cancer surgery, man couldn't even talk. He did however sign a beautiful print of Doc Holiday I have with my name and, "You were just too high strung."
I just watched him in another video and I cried.
He is SOUNDING better. Had no idea he was LOOKING like this. Amazing talent. Incredible artist.
Wow, his voice sounds so much better than it did several years ago.
My absolute favorite author.
He’s so down to earth and helpful❤ true salt of the earth
What a generous and kind soul, to be so open and helpful this way. Impressive. And there's a lot of wisdom there from a load of experience. When he said "Publishers don't know what they want, until they publish it" ... I mean, that alone is huge and revealing-- so simple but profound and telling. Terrific.
Could you imagine somebody saying no to Clive Barker..publisher’s don’t know what they want, till it starts making money…then all publishers want a copy of that author.Clive Barker what a class act
The world is so lucky to have people like Clive, who can dream such strange and wonderful dreams.
I know you'll likely never read this Mr. Barker, but thank you. Your dreams have made my life better than it could have ever been without them. For this, I will always love you.
Great advice from a master of horror literature. A strong life advice that can be applied to any goal One pursuits in Life. Hope you Remember his words as you pave the way for your writing carreer, as Mr Barker said ''don't take no as an answer".
Thank you Clive, I really appreciate your thoughts
Mi escritor favorito de todos los tiempos.
It’s heartbreaking to see him broken down by disease, but his soul was fine in this interview. So sincerely trying to help a fellow writer.
Wow Clive sounds amazing and he seems like he's feeling good here. Wonderful to see him up and about. 💕
What a legend for passing on knowledge like that, god bless him and his crazy mind
Great advice - truly. He just gave the kid a big piece of the writer's holy grail. Another piece I have to say would be a good descriptive dynamic, also an understanding of the art as you make it from the ground up, and develope in myriad ways your fighting angel and duende - like a bullfight. You can tell what has vitality and what doesn't, what like the bullfighter spears the animal and with a slight turn misses getting gored in the arena by the horns of the beast - and the crowd cheers and you bow. But never bow out.
I've lived since my childhood with Clive at my side. He inspired my own writing, the style and pretty much everything. It's kinda saddening to see him getting older. Is he sick? Lost his voice some time ago, almost. He seems too old for his age. Love you, Mr. Barker! )^
One of the greats! This is the guy who was a director of his own movie and had his own comic line with marvel (wachowski sisters collabrated and worte ektokid on it!)
What a sweetheart.
This man created one of the best computer games out there - "Clive Barker's Undying" - masterpiece, a true masterpiece is what this video game is, like most of his work in general! I've heard he has been struggling with some illnesses, hope the man recoveres soon!
Yeah that game was fantastic!!
It will always hold a special place in my heart 😊
A shame that Jericho was such a letdown.
What a diamond, I love this guys books, brilliant writer
Clive is a brilliant mind and an absolute treasure!! You are very lucky to have had a conversation with him!!
Absolutely fantastic.
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
i love clive barker! his books scared the sh*t out of me
So kind and down to earth, what a legend!
Thank you so much for sharing 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
This was a neat clip. Clive is such a positive voice in this.
Honestly, I thought this man had become a recluse. He publishes as and when, doesn't give interviews any more, and appeared to be suffering a host of medical issues. Thank you for posting this. At least we know he's still with us. What's actually befallen him?
Was this Monster Mania back in '19? If so, I was there too and he was just so amazing to talk to.
@@GraveyardGrog it was.
What a class act
Gotta love the autogenerated subtitles at 3:17
Never take no for an answer. Do the work, be perpetually consistent with it, learn a new thing everyday, and when your work does garner traction remember to give back when you start to reap.
Absolute gentleman always been a nice guy and incredibly giving to his fans, this just confirms it
What a great guy.
This video made me adore Clive Barker even more. Thank you for sharing this and I’d love to read your short stories!
The master craftsman giving away free advice. Genuine human being.
This is great. What a lovely, full and sincere answer. Love Clive.
Such a great guy and what a mind!!
Wow, what an AWESOME guy! Does anyone know what he thought of the movie Candyman or the Hellraiser sequels?
Passionate advice and he's right.
You're so lucky !
Thank you.
Great advise from someone so inspirational! He is a Master!! What a legend
That was a very inspiring answer he gave, excellent video!
That’s really great advice. Thanks for posting.
Love this man. Great inspiration for writers. I can only dream of being half as great as him
I still can't believe this is the same man...
Just seems a like a very cool down to earth goofy guy. Use to be terrified of the man haha
Such a sweet response
What a cool guy ❤
His voice sounds much better
It sounds as good as it did in the 1990's!
Clive Barker is a giant
Great love and respect to this creative genius. However by the looks of him, he may not be around very much longer.
From this video he may look frail and all but his voice is much stronger than it has ever been and his energy level seems to be at an all time high plus, at 68, I’d say he’s doing very well and still has a lot more life in him
Hes been in a bad way for a while but this is actually a marked improvement over the past couple of years. And his voice is as clearer than its been in the past decade. I just hope he sticks around to maybe give a few masterclasses or workshops. His knowledge is invaluable to our writers of tomorrow.
Absolute legend.
Where did you meet Mr. Barker? It is a dream of mine to meet him and Stephen King one day.
Juan Quiroz, I met him at Monster Mania in Cherry Hill, NJ.
@@jeremyschwartz7816 ah ok, it seems he is doing the rounds at these Monster Mania events throughout... wish he would come to the west coast
@@TheSpanmexguy, He seems to be doing a fair amount of conventions now, so I"m sure at some point he will.
@@jeremyschwartz7816 Nice. 2019 by me there was a convention that had Doug Bradley. Oh GOD I wanted to go but couldn't get out of work.
@@JnEricsonx thanks and Doug Bradley does a lot of conventions so I’m sure once the pandemic ends, you’ll have a chance to met him. You can also buy autographs on his website.
A million_dollars advice😀😍📹😳😳😳
Wow I would love to read a Barker novel. Hes probably just as good as Stephen King.
Your mind will be reeling - he is the best.
I love Stephen King but I think Barker is more terrifying, more serious, King defuses a lot of the horror with a wittier style of writing which is also great but different to CB
Passionate advice and he's right.
