There's another video here on RUclips about 32mins long I think if you watch it it'll blow you away about how it used to look like before Jean Claude Duvalier (Baby Duck) left the country and went into exile.
I’m amazed when Haitians living abroad can’t believe how Haiti has sinked so deep into the abyss. I guess you haven’t been paying attention for a long time. The western world has done some pretty shitty things to Haiti, but some of us was too willing to oblige.Haiti’s downward spiral started with the dictatorship of the Duvaliers ( 1957 - 1986 ) During such time most intellectuals were either killed or sent into exile. Our teachers and Doctors migrated to North America and Africa. We’re talking about a country where the illiteracy rate was at least 70% at that time. After 1986 we had a string of coup d’état followed by mediocre leaders whose only goal was to get rich through corruption or by selling out to the lowest bidder. It is estimated that 87% of Haitians with a College degree live outside of Haiti. How exactly did you expect a country with a brain drain coupled with corrupt so called leaders to move forward? Most of us in the Haitian diaspora are guilty by omission. We chose to run instead of fighting for our rights. We chose safety while a group of strangers control every aspect of daily life in Haiti. Now what you gonna do? Are we going to keep complaining or are we gonna band together and take our country back?
During the Duvalier regime Haiti was good man the only thing is that they didn't allowed the people to interfere in politics which where if you do well let's just say you can kiss your freedom goodbye but overall schools were free and so was health care. I've asked a lot of old Haitians and they all told me the same thing, as long you didn't speak against the government you were able to love how you wanted to. I've even been told by some foreigners that Haiti was one of the safest countries in the world during the Duvalier era.
@@wolfofallstreets3155 It's amazing. Why is there bad talk about Francois Duvalier now? I read in The Comedians that he mocked the people and made the country poor. Is that an exaggeration? And in Russia, everyone thinks that Duvalier was a tyrant.
I’ll give you that there was security in Haiti during the Duvalier era. However, the Duvalier regime was the beginning of the end. They turned Port-au-Prince into the bidonville that it is today. They used to bring scores of peasants into the capital to celebrate their anniversaries that usually fall on a 22nd of the month. Once they got there they were left to vouch for themselves. Most of them didn’t even have bus money to go back home. The creole pigs were wiped out during the Duvalier regime. The privatization and subsequent closure of the factories and industries started under the watch of the Duvalier regime. Public schools were more or less free and is still is, but you needed to know somebody to get a spot in a Lycée. There weren’t that many Public schools to go around anyway. How many schools were built during the 29 years of the Duvalier regime? How long did he take the Castro regime to alphabetize Cuba? Imagine for one second if the Duvaliers wanted to go that route. The wave of crime crashing on Haiti is political. They could restore order in a month if they wanted to.
