    Loved learning the history of the ruff! Thanks for the ladder stitch explanation too. This was such a helpful tutorial. I adore the final ruff!

    Fun fact! Many of the portraits shown, specifically by Paulus Moreelse are not in fact nobles or royals. He is a dutch painter who was based in Utrecht, in what was than the republic of the seven united provinces. No royal house! The people in the portraits are merchants. In this time period there was a big powershift with lots of “new”(stolen) money making merchants far more influential than nobles.

    I've been meaning to make an organza ruff for a clown lolita coord I'm putting together - this video is so helpful! I know I'll be coming back to it when I get sewing it

      Just be sure to use a soft material for the neck cuff, organza can be pretty scratchy!

      Oooh I really want to see this coord once its finished, it sounds cute!

    So cute! I never would have thought to put a ruff with that strapless bodice, but it really makes the ensemble pop!

      @TheStitchess  2 года назад +4

      I made it specifically with that bodice in mind ^-^

    Oh look, another tutorial for something I'll never do, but watching The Stitchess allows me to understand my fabric craft friends.
    Also, even in things like this, your love of this is screaming through every word. And the excitement is contagious.
    Thank you, as always, for sharing.

    When you went through the history, I was struck that the informal style of ruff looked like petticoats for the neck...

    Im so excited for this video! I've been wanting to make a ruff since I saw one being sold at a music festival a few months back (it was like $200 so I could not justify buying it.) I can't wait to try to follow along with this!

    Thanks for this very clear demonstration. I never realized it was that easy!
    FYI- you could have just used contrasting threads for the video with a disclaimer that IRL you’d match the thread to fabric choice. ie, pink for basting and yellow for tacking on. Would be easier to follow. Great job anyway
