28y and I still read them at least once, if not multiple times a year. I don't always read them in sequence, but just once in a while dipping back into that world is just so fantastic :)
I'm 38 now and I think I appreciate the books even more than when they came out and I was younger. I can see them from a different perspective now, find new meanings... It irritates me every time somebody says they're the children's books :-D.
I know! I've thought about that, too. It is taking much longer for the fourth book to come out compared to the first three and size is the reason. No doubt it will be amazing!
Did you get the Deluxe edition of the fourth book? I was highly disappointed with the illustrations for it and didn't end up getting the Deluxe edition. It seems to me that there are less illustrations than the previous three, including things like ink spots on pages. I can't see why they needed an extra year.
Oh finally another adult HP fan + Ravenclaw as I am! I am 34 and I thought I was like the only one in the world owning the Ravenclaw Quidditch Jumper. Nice video thank you that version is amazing (I own just the standard one).
+lizbennetgenova I love wearing my Ravenclaw jumper, as well as my Ravenclaw school sweater (the grey one with blue color at the sleeves and waist). Today I'm wearing my Durmstrang shirt and will upload a video soon where MinaLima (the graphic artist team behind the movies) explains how they came up with that design. As for my age, I'm in my 40s and a MUCH bigger fan than my kids. I'm the one with a room decorating with Harry Potter stuff! I fully embrace my love of Harry Potter. :)
+For The Love of Harry that's my dream, a HP room…I hope we'll get to see your HP room one day; I only own the gryffindor school sweater (I found a bargain on ebay); I own many HP pjs / t-shirts but I don't have the Durmstrang one, is it the beige one? if so, I think I've seen it at the Warner Bros studios in LDN, I thought it was lovely... If you bought it in Orlando instead, then I've never seen it, sadly I've never been there - too expensive, I mean just the international flight ...); my ex partner was a HP fan, the man I've just started dating is not and I haven't got kids yet but I do believe I'll always be the biggest fan in the house! I subscribed so I'll watch your upcoming video, thank you.
Ana, Like a lot of us, this lady was at Hogwarts as a child, before J.K. Rowling wrote a book about the later and more famous student, Harry. before then the school was largely unknown. Don't ask me how I know... because I am not allowed to tell. 😱👍🏻
Many thanks for your review of this deluxe edition. I especially loved the fact that you went and got the regular illustrated edition to show us the comparison. Exactly what I wanted to see. Thanks Rochelle!
Thank you! Your video made me go and buy the Chamber of Secrets version. The best price I could find was on Amazon Marketplace and I paid £78+ £4 in postage which seemed quite reasonable (Bloomsbury sells it for £105 on their December sale). Hope you are going to do an unboxing of the CoS as well.
That sounds like a great price! I recently bought the CoS on Amazon and plan on making a video soon, but I'm having foot surgery on Monday and don't know when I will feel up to it. I'd love to say that I'll do a video this weekend but I'll be busy taking care of things while I can still walk and drive. Soon, though, I promise.
Thank for the wonderful video. I didn't know about the Deluxe Illustrated edition until I saw your video. That edition is by far the most beautiful book I have seen in an a long time. It definitely is on par with George R. R. Martins, The World of Ice and Fire. Thank you. You have a new subscriber!
Are there differences in the illustrations inside the book from the regular and deluxe? Like does the deluxe have more illustrations? Not including poster/packaging/etc
I just ordered this! The Philosopher's version. Being dutch, I have more of an affinity towards the UK editions. Although I do own the trunk box set of US hardcovers. I'm a little scared about how they're going to manage the longer books. I'm afraid this is going to be 15+ books to get all 7 illustrated XD.
That is a great question! The paper is definitely thicker in the deluxe illustrated edition. I don’t know if the paper in either book is acid free, nor could I find information about this. Two years ago I sent emails to both Bloomsbury and Scholastic (the publishers of these books, one is in the UK and the other is in the US) asking about this but I never heard back from them. :(
Wow, thank you! It means a lot that you want me to make a video about the next book. I ordered the deluxe illustrated version of the Chamber of Secrets last week so I'll be sure to make a video after I get it.
You can see the dimensions on this post I wrote about the two versions: fortheloveofharry.com/book-1-deluxe-illustrated-harry-potter-and-the-sorcerers-stone/
Hey there! Where did u find the american version (sorcerer's stone tittle) of this deluxe edition? I can only find the british version (Philosopher's Stone tittle)! This book is amazing!
I bought it from Barnes & Noble when it was originally released, but they are sold out. You can visit my site where I have links to a few other possible sources - fortheloveofharry.com/book-1-deluxe-illustrated-harry-potter-and-the-sorcerers-stone/. I just checked and there are several listed on eBay that are very reasonably priced. Good luck finding this!
I bought it here in Brazil! I found it in a book store and couldnt resist! This book is mind blowing! Its SOOO beautiful! The purple fabric and the golden edges on the pages make it a TREASURE! =D Have you seen the new deluxe edition of Chamber of Secrets?! Its red and golden, I cant wait to buy it as well! I hope they release all of them in this deluxe edition! Can you imagine all 8 like this? Its a dream!
I'm so glad you found it! Yes, it is incredibly beautiful. I know there is a deluxe illustrated version of the "Chamber of Secrets" but I've not yet seen pictures of it. I am confident that they will release these versions of the books for all of them. The complete collection will be gorgeous!
I dont understand, english is not your language if you are from Brazil, right ? ( unless you'r american..) then why would you care for the special local dialect called US version, when you could have the original english version in true english ? ( I'm not being mean saying " True" , that's a word Hollywood use to define different version : For instance: a movie can be release in "french canadian" and then in " true" french. 'true" refers to the original country it's spoken.). I myself never read any Hp nor saw any movie in my native language because I consider that's very bad.
Right, im brazilian and Portuguese is my mother language. But I asked about the USA version cause I had no idea it had been released in USA with US English, and since UK version was sold out at that time I still had a chance to buy the USA version. But in the end I came across this gorgegous book in a book store here in Brazil and now I have the British version. And For the record, I like more the USA version of the normal (not deluxe) ilustrated edition because the Font they use in USA is the original HP font, larger and more beautiful, while in UK they now have a new font. Im aware that the UK version with original text has a few differences, like "Shan't" and "Philosopher's". Regards!
Thank you for the size comparison, I didn't know it was bigger. Do you think it is more durable(better binding, better paper) than the smaller illustrated version? Is it better quality, or it is "just" the size, bookmark, poster and cover/slipcase you're paying more for?
The deluxe illustrated version of the book is better quality. The paper is slightly thicker than the smaller book, it has gilded pages (the edges of the pages are gold), and so on. I hope this helps.
I bought this from Barnes & Noble but they no longer have it. You can get it from Amazon or eBay. I've got links for where you can find it here - fortheloveofharry.com/book-1-deluxe-illustrated-harry-potter-and-the-sorcerers-stone/
hello there! I recently just rematch all 8 of harry potter movie and I'm in love with harry potter world. I realised that there are a lot of details of the story that is not shown in the movie, that is why I wanted to start reading the novel. I wanted to buy the illustration edition for collectible and also I found it more interesting that way as I really love to draw my self to see details of the illustration by Jim Kay. I need to reconfirm with you that the illustrated edition's story/ script IS the exactly the same as the regular novel right? there is not a single section/ part of the story that they cut? I'll be waiting for your reply thank you so much before for the video now I know what the difference between the deluxe and the regular illustration edition :) *sorry for my english grammar. It's not my first language*
It makes me so happy to hear that you want to read the books! You are right, there is SO much in the books that are left out of the movies. I haven't gone page by page but I am fairly certain that both editions have the same illustrations. I made a table comparing the two editions that might be helpful to you, which you can see here - fortheloveofharry.com/book-1-deluxe-illustrated-harry-potter-and-the-sorcerers-stone/
thank you for your fast responds! :D and thank you for the link! btw I'm really sorry but what I meant to ask was is that the illustrated version story/ script is as complete as the novel that don't have illustration right? hehe :D because seeing the thickness of the book between the illustrated version, and novel that is not illustrated (regular novel) is not much of a different. and considering the illustrated version have pictures in it i'm scared that in the illustrated version they cut some section of the story love your videos cheers!
Oh! Now I understand what you asked. Yes, the stories are exactly the same. The illustrated version (the smaller one, not the huge deluxe one) is a bit bigger than the non-illustrated version of the book. I think they did this so there would be enough room for the story and the pictures. I hope this helps.
I was going to preorder the MinaLima edition and then this video showed up on my feed. I loved the book comparison you did and this looks like a gorgeous edition. Thanks for making my life a little more difficult and my pocket more lighter :D On a serious note, will you recommend buying this Deluxe edition or wait for the MinaLima one? And are they planning to come out with a Deluxe edition of the MinaLima version? I have not seen anything yet though
That's a good question about the Deluxe edition and MinaLima. I don't know how to answer that but I can tell you what I did. I have the first three Deluxe editions, as well as the regular ones, illustrated by Jim Kay. I don't have the fourth Deluxe edition for two reasons. 1) I couldn't afford it, and 2) I wasn't happy with it. They took an extra year because of how much longer the fourth book is, yet it has less illustrations than the previous three. I don't see where the extra year did anything. As for MinaLima, I have already pre-ordered it and can't wait to get it. Their books are always amazing! I haven't not heard anything about them doing a Deluxe edition but I don't think they will. I say this because they have illustrated several other books (i.e. "The Little Mermaid") and none of them had Deluxe editions. I hope this is helpful to you.
+For The Love of Harry , I'm sorry I didn't elaborate lol, I think you asked us if we knew how Dudley got his pig's tail. I love your videos. I've been considering wether or not I should invest in this version. You had me sold.
+Dave Pancham Oh! My apologies - you are correct, Dudley had to go to St. Mungo's to have the tail removed. And, thank you for the kind words! This is a beautiful book that is worthy of purchase. What is your House so I can award 10 points to it? I'm keeping track on my website: fortheloveofharry.com/earn-points-for-your-hogwarts-house/
Im a big fan of Harry Potter, i’m so upset that im unable to buy this one for my collection because its so expansive it made me cry of how beautiful it is and how i’ll never be able to buy it.
I didn't know that Jim Kay illustrated a bug pop-up book so I just searched for it. It looks impressive, but I'll pass because creepy crawlies are not my thing. His illustrations for the book look good, though.
Wouldn't that be wonderful? There actually are a handful of Harry Potter pop up books, but I'd love one from Jim Kay. He has a great understanding of Harry's world.

I know! I've thought about that, too. It is taking much longer for the fourth book to come out compared to the first three and size is the reason. No doubt it will be amazing!

hi! that's nice to hear, I feel less lonely now! ;)
That's awesome!!!
I love it when I see HP adult fan, most of people I know think that HP is story for children. I am Ravenclaw too. 😄
HP has things only adults can understand
Ana, Like a lot of us, this lady was at Hogwarts as a child, before J.K. Rowling wrote a book about the later and more famous student, Harry. before then the school was largely unknown. Don't ask me how I know... because I am not allowed to tell. 😱👍🏻
Harry Potter IS a story for children
Putz Grila Then why are there swear words in the books?
Loved this video, thanks for showing the deluxe version. I was extremely curious. It's gorgeous!!!
Thank you! I agree, it is gorgeous. I've got the second book and will make a video about that very soon.
Many thanks for your review of this deluxe edition. I especially loved the fact that you went and got the regular illustrated edition to show us the comparison. Exactly what I wanted to see. Thanks Rochelle!
I'm also a Ravenclaw!!! loved your sweater and the unboxing!
Thank you! That's one of my favorite sweaters. I look forward to the winter time when it is cool enough for me to wear it again. :)
where did u get it from??
I got it from Universal Studios, in Madame Malkin's Robe Shop.

How about pages, are the pages from deluxe edition noticeably thicker?
Question. Is the paper the same glossy paper in the deluxe edition as it is in the smaller illustrated edition? I’m a geek about paper quality.

For The Love of Harry Thank you!
Hahaha my kids will not be touching these...true fan
I totally understand! I've got mine kept in their cardboard boxes, safely away on a shelf where no one but me can touch them.

Thank you! I have the second book and plan on making a video about it very soon.
For The Love of Harry Great! I'll be the First one who ist whatching it. I already bought the First illustrated one 😀🏃👍👍
I really want to buy this, but my parents think that it is too much money to waste just for a book...
Howling Potterhead they'll never get it. We can pay everything on Harry Potter
SUBSCRIBED!!!!!!!!!!! I love Harry too 😭😭😭
Dudley got his pigtail off in the hospital
Brilliant!
RAVENCLAW!!!!!! YAS SLAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Two feet? More like two metres.
Yeah, I think you're right. I completely got that wrong, didn't I?
