I am 100% sure that your plan from the very beginning was to start a channel on the foundation of good Nier videos, growing it with more gaming content, sprinkle some funny gameplay and reviews and then revealing your true goal: Make us all go through Atelier hell. Marvelous play, i gotta say
She is adopted. I asked someone who had already played the Japanese version. There are no physical romantic happenings in atelier games. That's a no-no for them since the beginning of time. I mean, Escha and Logy never got to kiss because rules. I wish Gust would tackle more serious themes and allow for darker plots and characters with not always the best of intentions. The closest they got to that was Keith and he was awesome.
If I had one complaint, it would be the lack of a dub. I know that might sound blasphemous, but I really liked the English voices in the original trilogy, and was disappointed they didn't have them here.
I'm glad the time pressure is gone. I rather to grind on my time and fight monsters when i'm ready to do so before I accept the quests to do it. Love this game. Just like old times :-)
Never played, heard or knew about this game. Honestly, this is not even my type and genre of games, but thanks to such a caring, deep and enthusiastic presentation of the story, I could not tear myself away from the review to its very end. Sincerely amazed by the form and content of your story and show. Incredible labor.
I feel so saddened I can't quite share your enthusiasm. I had some concerns about this game, and saw this video pop up, making me wonder if my concerns were shared, and apparently not. Which is fine of course, and there's certainly a lot I agree with, like how it looks lovely, how it doesn't relies on its Arland setting as pure nostalgia bait, or how the pacing is like that of Atelier Totori's. But well, I like my time limits a bit too much it feels, and their removal for a more main objective-centric situation does lead to some parts that I kinda diliked. Like, the Puni Rangers part on chapter 2. While the scenario itself is charming, the feeling of having to go back and forth from Arls to the checkpoint, back to Arls, back to the checkpoint then a bit further, back to Arls, back to this castle, and back again, and then back to the checkpoint and through was just something that felt kinda like padding. And there's always a bit of padding, but in time-limited games it's generally player-made, going leisurly through alchemical recipes, and feeling like you're resting at your pace rather than losing over a month's worth of travel time just because you need to stare at Keina's flowing golden hair (not that this is a bad thing in itself) Ultimately, I still return to it daily, but there's this lasting feeling that it's Sophie cosplaying as Rorona.
Who needs sleep when you get hyped for Atelier by your favorite reviewer? Now we need a definitive end to the Dusk series... Never mind, it’s good as is.
@@josedaydream0922 Try Atelier Ayesha. It's good for "a" playthrough in my opinion. Atelier Shallie was the only one of the series I couldn't finish because I wanted to; It could have been way better. It didn't give me a feel of "connect," but that might be because Atelier Escha and Logy ended too high a note.
Element synthesis is back! Yeeeeeeaaaah! I hope store prices will drop as quickly as for the previous entry. I just have two questions: One - How does the time limit work? Is it exactly like in Totori? I'm more of a fan of clear, shorter time frames. Two - How do ultimate attacks work in this game? Are they the (good) Shallie type or the (hard to trigger) Lydie/Suelle type?
YES I was waiting for this video, I have been a fan since your "introduction to atelier" video. I have been enjoying this game for a couple of days, definitely lulua is also my favorite arlan protagonist but I am also in love with mama rorona, I just wish that gust port the dusk trilogy to pc to complete my atelier experience, Nelke made want to play them so hard.
Thanks for the review! I was a little hesitant, since the last Atelier game I played was Sophie and I got too bored to complete it. I wanted to give it a second chance and try it out on Steam. The way you reviewed it made it seem so fun I couldn't help buy it the moment I finished watching (I was already thinking of buying it anyways, so I took your word). Hope it'll be a good game for me!
Hey Valkyrie, if you like Atelier then you would LOVE Trails of Cold Steel. Based on which games you say you like, it's basically all the stuff you want in a game.
i have such a love-hate relationship with these games. it's impossible to find special editions of them so i have to order them online and i'm not in north america so it's a pain, and they make them faster than i can plat them! but boy are these games my drug. still beating the rorona remake. also i have no clue how i have atelier rorona DX, but had no idea that totori and meruru also had the PS4 DX version made. more stuff to buy, send help!
8:10 Probably me being extremely nitpicky but actually if you close enough at familar area (or character model during cutscene closeup shots) you can tell that they reused a lot of assets from the original Arland games due to the almost-PS2-like blurry low-res texture quality. The Arland republic being the worst case scenario as you can see as you are near to the walls, you can tell which is reused and which is new, which can be very off-putting despite being understandable. Despite that, I really loved the game and Lulua became my second favorite character in the series (first one is Sophie despite not yet playing her own game). One of elements of the story that I like is how they show how being a family is more than being blood-related. This is probably because most of stories I watched or read about adopted characters are often painting being adopted as a very negative thing, so seeing something that doesn't take this route is a breath of fresh air.
cool, I preordered it hoping to have more Arland vibes (Totori and Meruru are my favorites) and watching this really helps to know what I'll be playing tomorrow! Thanks for the review

"I know you were thinking it was a rip off of atelier Sophie" yes I was you got me, i am totally versed in this game series yup that's me a true gamer, infinite knowledge
I've been wanting to play the Atelier games for a long while now ever since I found your channel. I think I am going to give it a go. I wanna start with this game, but I'm going to view the other Arland games first (yes view, due to budget) and thennn i'm gonna buy this.
I'm not much of a fan of Atelier, coz they're simple and light RPG, but i fell in love with its beautiful artwork, so i still try to play any entry i can get my hands with.
Atelier Iris 3: Grand Phantasm is one of my favourite games of all time, and a year or two ago I found out there's an obscene amount of Atelier games. To my disdain, I find that Lydie & Suelle was so stiff that it made me feel like there was no effort put into the game. The story felt nonexistent for the dozens of hours I put into it. I tried Atelier Sophie and I had the same issue. It felt like the series of my favourite title is now only a "kawaii waifu" cashgrab. To this day I regret buying Lydie & Suelle. What hooked me with Grand Phantasm was an amazing story, flavourful characters, good VAs, and a battle system that I dream about to this day. The OST was something I didn't know to appreciate back then, but I find myself coming back to experience nostalgia by listening to it now, ten years later. The aforementioned newer Atelier titles were missing all of those factors. When I moved in the world, it felt like my character glided while a default animation played at a default speed that wasn't adjusted by the developers. Story was just "we are cute girls and we will be the best, watch our cute lifestyle cutscenes" and the battle system felt like if they took out 55% of the old system. I'm afraid to buy this one for those reasons, even though it does look closer to the game I love. I need to watch a playthrough to win me over, if it can manage that. Nevertheless, this review was amazing and you earned an instant subscriber.

Got my copy yesterday, and I'm looking forward to play the game some time later, hopefully early next week after I'm done with Meruru DX. At first glance, the world system it looks like a merge of Sophie and Shallie (event-limit rather than time-limit), while the combat looks like an upgraded version of...Lydie&Suelle? Synthesis system kinda looked a bit like Escha&Logy with all those bar, but I'll take that, having an improved system is always a welcome, as long as it's not an overly convoluted mess (looking at you Mysterious series). Anyway the game looks good. The graphic is definitely a vast improvement over the Arland series. Can't wait to play the game, I'm glad that you have positive views on the game, which means I'm definitely is going to have a good time playing this later. I'm really happy that Gust actually went back to the Arland series, imo modern Atelier is at its best at Arland and Dusk series. btw, I'm also looking forward to Gust's new project announced yesterday : )
Does the time management system stops after you finish the game story in the atelier games or do they keep going because the time management system stress me out Note: I played a couple of the ateliers game but I didn’t get to finish them
so can you please elaborate/ explain the time management system in this game? how strict is it? when do i get a game over? and also is the game world linear? because all these are what makes or breaks the game for me!! but the video was nice and fluffy as always!! 🌸
(Edited for easier reading) Think of it like persona. There is a month/day displayed in the top left portion of the screen and every action causes time to pass. As you play the game, you'll get requests that will require you to complete them by a specific day. If you don't, the game ends. (You'll usually get a bad ending rather than get a game over). For instance in Atelier Rorona (Arland 1), you re tasked with doing certain jobs requested by the kingdom of arland to keep your Atelier open. Not fulfilling the requests given to you results in your Atelier being closed down by the government. (Bad ending). the tasks are given to you very 3 months. The game lasts 3 years. In Atelier Totori (Arland 2) you decide to join an adventurers guild to find the whereabouts of your missing mother. Once you join the guild you are tasked with meeting certain adventurer rank requirements every year. Failure to meet these requirements results in you getting kicked out of the guild. (Bad ending). This part of the game lasts 5 years. If you meet all the requirements for these 5 years the game extends by 2 years with 2 more rank goals to meet at the end of each year. Total gam4 length is 7 years. In Atelier Meruru (Arland 3) you have to expand your kingdom from Rural backwater to bustling metropolis. You have 3 years initially with yearly goals set that you have to meet. Failure results in a bad ending. Success results In A 2 year extension with 2 more goals to meet. Now take all of that and add in sub quests that have their own deadlines that you need to meet on top of the main time requirements. Not to mention special character events that happen on specific days and that's, essentially, how the Arland trilogy treats its time management. The game that came after this. Atelier Ayesha (Dusk 1) gives you 1 goal, Find your missing sister, and 3 years to do it. I forget how Atelier Escha&Logy (Dusk 2) worked Atelier Shallie (Dusk 3) didn't have a time management system. Played more like the Atelier iris and Mana Khemia games. Atelier Sophie (mysterious 1) had a calendar, but it functioned like the calendar in FF Tactics by keeping g track of days. No real deadlines. Atelier Firis (Mysterious 2) gave you 1 year to become a licensed alchemists. Once you do the time limit is removed and the calendar functions like it does in Sophie. Atelier Lydie&Suelle (Mysterious 3) starts off without a time limit, but I hear it gives you one later the farther in the story you get. (I don't know for sure since I haven't finished this one) Hope this verbal explosion helps.
RaifSeverence hey hey 👋 thank you for the explanation- I needed more info on that too. Will definitely try this game out now ! Just finished and got 100% on Atelier Lydie & Suelle this week. Favorite game of the series by far ! To me, the Mysterious series was superb ❤️
This just released, and there's already a new Atelier game announced. Atelier Raiza: The Queen of Eternal Darkness and the Secret Hideout. Not complaining tho. They're all really enjoyable games.
I heard there was this one character who was shoe-horned in and her interactions with Lulua went to a high without build-up near the end of the game. Is this true?
thanks for covering these kinds of Jrpgs. Just got a PS Vita from a from a friend in Japan and there's tons of these games for it, and it really helps me decide what to get. I'm so fucking out of touch with jrpgs outside of Shin Megami Tensei/Persona games, good lord
Huh I didn't even know any Atelier games had came to the switch, I think I'll try this out. Having this kind of game on something I can just play in bed or on my way to work seems so much better than playing it in the living room on my ps4.
Whoa man it's been a long time since I've played an Atelier series game, last being Meruru. Rorona's game absolutely kicked my butt and I disliked it greatly (the old PS3 version and not Plus), but I enjoyed the other two a lot. Lulua looks interesting enough to where I wanna get into it, but I still feel apprehensive for some reason. Like if it's not quite what I want with story/item making/and combat yet, which is why I held off getting the other games... But your video kept me interested in Lulua and to think about getting back into Atelier for sure!
I'm wanting to get into this series... what would you recommend to start with? Also great review! Very informative. And you have such a soothing voice😁👍
any first game of the "sub series" so arland is one, dusk is another etc, look at the wikipedia page for atelier video game series to get what I mean. This video's maker also has another atelier video that explains all you need to know :)
@@beerusjeebus9876 You are welcome, I'd recommend the arland trilogy remaster, I tried sophie as my first and it turned me off the series till I tried a diff atelier :)
just completed atelier sophie (literally 10-15mins ago) i loved it! (the last time i played an atelier game was Atelier Iris 1). i loved it but i dont think i can play another for a while which is a same considering i also got atelier firis and Atelier Lydie & Suelle at the same time but this one looks good so i expect ill buy it and add it to the pile :D
I also am enjoying this game but honestly my biggest gripe is the age progression of older characters. It's just odd that none of them have really changed much and I always feel like Gust is afraid of their main characters aging, getting married, or just changing over all. Totori now 26, looks almost identical to her 13-14 year old counterpart. I can acknowledge that budget/ time constants probably has a part in this but, still.I really love this game, but, most every character is just a different variant of cute and while it is not inherently a bad thing, it doesn't make the world entirely believable. Atelier Lulua is still my favorite title in the series in terms of gameplay and I highly praise Gust for breathing a breath of fresh air in their core gameplay with this one.
The Mysterious cycle or series of games have no time limit. Atelier Shallie was the first game to have no time limit BUT I feel like it was a big miss. The Mysterious series is my favorite so far. Atelier Meruru was my first game and I adore it ! Really glad we’re glad going back to Arland but kinda disappointed with the reintroduction of the time limit 😐🤦♂️
I’m all for heartwarming stories starring insanely adorable waifus, definitely picking up the bundle, also is the music playing in the background the OST? It’s very heartwarming itself
I agree with the sentiment. But sadly I also know that Ar Nosurge was a very badly programmed and glitchy mess that was really hard to play through. If anything else comes of that series, they need to playtest it hard. I want more, but not if they can't give me a stable, reliable product.
@@quiotu i only played ar nosurge plus so i dont really know how glitchy the standard version was, but the plus ver ran just fine, albeit some slowdowns in some places. Most notably the city of quanturv.
@@quiotu Lulua isn't really perfect either, it is also glitchy, but luckily the game is 90% synthesis so it doesn't really effect the important parts of the game. Sadly it does effect combat though, so you have to clear the areas fast.
PC users, Atelier games are on sale on Steam and Humble Bundle.
This is the best time to get into the games.
Which one should i get?
This, got Lulua for 30 bucks. Wanted it for switch but I can't say no to half price.

I'm really happy that Gust actually went back to the Arland series, imo modern Atelier is at its best at Arland and Dusk series.
btw, I'm also looking forward to Gust's new project announced yesterday : )
Upon seeing you upload i was like "wtf!! You already have this game?"
I Love your taste in Games
I came doubtful, I left excited to try my first atelier game, good to hear you ;)
Then there is the most important thing of totori and mimi are still together.
Nice review. Im having a blast jumping back into Arland
Perfect, I just grabbed a copy on switch and this is getting me excited for it. I won't have time until the next week though...
Im getting all 4 Arland series because of your videos :D
Nice review. I’m new at the series and currently playing my first one, Atelier Sophie.
how are you not already super famous? you have a dope ass voice! more videos pls :3
This was my first Atelier game and it's definitely made me want to play the others! I loved it.
Does the time management system stops after you finish the game story in the atelier games or do they keep going because the time management system stress me out
Note: I played a couple of the ateliers game but I didn’t get to finish them
For this entry there's no Time Management system :)
notice me sophie sama! Been waiting for this video since Lulua's release
so can you please elaborate/ explain the time management system in this game? how strict is it? when do i get a game over? and also is the game world linear? because all these are what makes or breaks the game for me!! but the video was nice and fluffy as always!! 🌸
Neo politan 5:30
FullMetalWhiteboy i watched the whole video, but like i still need more explanation
(Edited for easier reading)
Think of it like persona.
I forget how Atelier Escha&Logy (Dusk 2) worked
Atelier Shallie (Dusk 3) didn't have a time management system.
(I don't know for sure since I haven't finished this one)
Hope this verbal explosion helps.
I've been rewatching a bunch of Ventures lately that I totally forgot that the beat drops in the intro lol
Man! I love the atelier games! And this one made me want to get back into them.
Finally some good Atellier video!
So they finally make Totori x Mimi canon!??
4:45 “excuse me?” “You’re not excused”
I actually died 😂😂😂😂
I love you sophie!! Even if you upload at 1am
Random question time! Is the picture at the end of your videos you as an Atelier alchemist? Also, who drew it?
I just finished blue reflection and LOVED it. If this is from the same people than I'll have to check it out.
thanks for covering these kinds of Jrpgs.
Eva looks a little like Hina from Blue Reflection! 😛
Hey! New Gust title just teased too! Thoughts? Excited to see more new things from the dev team!
reflection did look strange i like you love all the Atelier titles including some fan translated ones but the less great video, you go girl!
Can't wait to play it. I love your reviews. 😊
I like that there’s no time management. It was a major issue I had and why I never bought one of these after the original (not counting the 3ds game).
Gonna assume that the book is a horcrux that corrupts the player.
Yeah I'm sure you didnt watch the video thourghouly.
i'm really enjoying Lulua will definitly go back and play the other arland games.
Surprisingly when i was watching the video an ad talking about atelier lulua appeared and i was like ʕ •ᴥ• ʔ wat?
I am still on the shelf of trying one of these games but I do like the look of them.
that’s some real SuperButterBuns energy at 1:40
I have watched and loved all of your Nier Automata videos
Seeing Eva reminded me of Hina from Blue Reflection. Hey Gust, Blue Reflection 2?
Yeah the whole game looks like reflection 2 🤔
Or port blue reflection to switch?
I never played, think it's because of the time constraint
I think there’s a few without a time limit. Or at least one. Sophie went over it in that rundown of the series
@@josedaydream0922 There's also Judie, Iris trilogy, and Mana Khemia games. But those are PS2 games, and nobody remembers about them anymore.
I’m all for heartwarming stories starring insanely adorable waifus, definitely picking up the bundle, also is the music playing in the background the OST? It’s very heartwarming itself
So THATS where my sinoalice summon book went!
oh god i love the intro song so much.... my heart hurts
I think I'll play this one and wiki the other 3. Mainly due to how time restrictive the older games appear. I enjoyed Escha and Firis time systems
atelier ryze just announced, 3 atelier games in a year? holymoly
we need more EXA_PICO games come on gust :(
I agree with the sentiment.
I really want to get into the Arland series but I'm very intimidated by the strict time limits in Rorona.
