Nice ride, I'm in the middle of swapping nv4500 to the tr4050 and the np241 transfer case to a 2 speed atlas. All behind a 4B Cummins. The vehicle is 1962 Ford F100. Your video let's me know there is light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks for posting.
I can empathize with the driver situation. Heck it doesn’t even need to be a custom truck. My boring daily GMC beater this past week I’ve had to dodge two cars a day. 😱 texters ragers and cagers,,, it’s life. Nice to see a Scout with a logical engine swap and not jacked to the moon. Nice work.
What exactly is "logical" about pulling a time-proven, although underpowered, engine that's as simple as they get, and replacing it with an overpriced and overcomplicated diesel?
I would like one of these in my 1954 IH R110 pickup truck, with the 5 speed trans, rather an auto transmission if it could work. My truck is in excellent condition, it had a frame off restoration a few years ago.
I just bought an R2.8 for my 800, I am curious if you Lizard skin and or dynamat lined the firewall and floor, I fear the R2.8 is going to run a little hotter than the old 304. Thanks
I have always noticed the conversion of Jeeps to the 2.8 swap and thought about converting my 1941 Dodge WC12 which would also require Dana axles and transmission. Is this the type of project that you would consider taking on?
How has the engine Held up. Any issues with blow-by or smoke out the exhaust caused by bad rings. These Cummins come in light commercial vehicles in Mexico and I’m looking to buy a New mini bus with this engine but have heard of some issues. Have any of your colleagues or other R2.8 uses encountered any issues thanks. 👍 nice build
As far as I know everything is fine. Customer is putting miles on it regularly. I have heard of a hand full of issues with the engines and honestly I am pretty sure they are considered throw aways.
Customer sent me an update the other day. Said he was enjoying cruising in it. It will run as fast as you have the sack to hold the throttle down. I had it at 75 multiple times.
350tq & 150hp? I dunno if I could spend that swap $. The 304 (greatest engine ever made) has Nearly the same specs?…Actually, it has More hp. With some bolt-on’s prolly can get damn close tq. For better fuel economy? Resale value? I dunno. I couldn’t do it.
@@OldIronOffroad Ah. Well, ok. Easier to grasp, Kinda? If one’s got the $? We had (dad) a ‘72 with a 4 cyl & 3 sp manual. Swapped in the 304 in the 1980’s.
Only do this swap if you want something to brag about and not drive. My R2.8 failed with only 14k miles on it. Cummins doesn’t give a shit, they only want your money.
I hate to hear that you had an issue. I do know of at least one other failure however it was resolved under warranty. That being said I think that there are plenty other swaps that have survived long term use and abuse. Time will definitely tell though.
Thanks for the ride ,beautiful country
Glad you enjoyed it
As soon as that engine was released, it was a swap I wanted. It's a bit of a "when I when the lottery" thing
Levi, great video. This really shows your love for what you do!
Thank you!! We have had our hands on these things for 20 years so we do have a soft spot in our hearts for them!!
Pretty much the perfect engine for the job it looks fantastic.
Thank you! It was a fun project and awesome driver!

Awesome!! Keep at it!!
That is a sweet build!!
Thank you!!
Love everything scout! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
I had a 61. Fun vehicles.

@@feoxorus almost zero parts availability for I4's or the SV's anymore that's why.
This is a swap I want to do when I find the right body to start with. Great video, great info , killer build , so clean ❤
Let me know when! I will come hang out and melt some metal with you !
@@OldIronOffroad right on , that's a deal 👌
Sweet build, been waiting for this video since I saw the Cummins motor video. Very cool and got a lot of great ideas from this build. Great job!
Great job Levi! Awesome Build!
Thanks!
If only that had the champagne or red carpet series dashpad to match. So sick!
Great video! I’ve got a 3.3 Cummins Turbo Diesel ( Actually a Komatsu engine) to go in my 69 Scout 800A with a 4 speed and stock 4:27 gears.
Did you finish this @indeewoods

Keep on Keepin' on Levi
Nice rig
Crazy such a simpler time
What about a 1973 Ford Bronco cost to swap like that?
i have a 4bt 4.4l marine have over 2100 hours run time pushers a 25 ft Southwester at 39 mph work boat
turns a 19x22 wheel at 2850 rpm stern drive has a 1q.66 :1 gear ratio
I haven’t broken the motor down to find what actually failed inside. It hurts my stomach to even look at it right now
I am sure. That is a big investment.

@ramshung Lizard skin on both sides. Actually no. Old cast iron engines seem to heat soak the metal way worse than modern stuff.
@@OldIronOffroad thanks for the reply, wish me luck ...here I go..

I would love too, but the reality is I am covered up with work at the moment so can't commit to anything new.
Who makes the gauge clusters? Are the dash instruments connected to the sensors via can buss?
Thanks in advance.
Best,
@Speedhut gauges and I made the panel. No they run on standard 12 volt power and use senders that come with the gauges.
@@OldIronOffroad thanks for the response.

Love everything about this build. What tire size with that CPT suspension?
33x10.50
What kind of roll bar is in that?
@jademeylor just a reproduction show bar
What fuel tank did you put on this?
We put a CJ tank in the back.
How's the engine holding. How fast also

@OldIronOffroad really! Wow that's good to hear. Thanks man
Would you recommend this engine in a Dodge Raider?
Actually yes. That would make for a nice swap!
I miss my 66 800

I've never seen a long term review on that engine but have seen a bunch where mechanics were Leary of it. Sorry about your luck
