Every live I watch from Gavin I learn multiple tricks. But what impresses me way more is, how he does not seem to have planned what he's teaching and reacts instantly to comments from the audience making it look like he wanted to show that anyways right at this moment :) That's what I call a great teacher
Have recently started watching Gavin's videos and love them! Especially as someone who just set up a basement studio. I just wish I had high ceilings like you.
Thanks Gav and team, my little studio is 3m square with a door in the middle of one wall, so that lets me get back a little more from the subject. I shall be putting most of these tips into practice here in Spain.
All great tips and I loved the free form at the end - a numbers game for sure and when it works the images are superb ! Well done to everyone ! Thank you
Amazing session, Gavin! 🌟 Learned so much from your techniques and insights. Thanks for making photography even more exciting and accessible. Can't wait to try these tips myself!
Thank you for this video! It has helped me understand several things on a much more practical level because of the space you limited yourself to. It’s the same amount of space (except the ceilings) as the inside of my chicken coop! I have my own studio space in my backyard and I didn’t even know it! 🐓🙃
Hi Gavin, the demo is super awesome as always! The camera and the lense you use... the 12-40mm do we have to understand it as full frame or crop? If crop what is the approximate equivalent of your focal length in full frame? Thank you 🙏
Great vid as always, fab to see Sophie back! Last year I had my own studio built in my garden, a 20x15 space. Ceiling height is just below 8ft, which isn't ideal....but the only way to do it without planning permission! First world problems!
Watching the replay, of course, but how high is your studio ceiling? Went it's not ungodly hot in Southern California, I will shoot in my garage and I have about the same area 10 feet by 15 feet. But my ceiling is 8 feet tall.
Gavin, when you are using the Xplor 300 pro with a gel you appear to be using a ‘pop in ‘ gel that goes on the default reflector for that light. Is this right? Which gel holder are you using and is it going on the default reflector or another adapter on the light?
I'm using an Xplor100 Pro flash and the OTA adapter. For the gels I've got the OTA gel set which attaches magnetically. The gel set comes with an empty frame for your own gels. More info at www.adorama.com/glsbppotfk.html
@@GavinHoeyThanks, sorry, I thought this unit was a 300, but that was my error. I thought maybe you had a trick for the 300🙂, no problem, I see some DIY 3-D printer options for the 300, and some pre-cut options I just wish it was as easy as the 100 makes it but the bare bulb makes that tricky 🙂
If anyone has a link to the vintage car video they're talking about at 28:10, I would be interested. I remember watching it (Sophie holding a big spanner, etc...), but can't find it anymore. Thanks in advance.
Gracias!!!!
Sorry I missed the live show but you always bring up the Inverse Square Law. So I thought I would put this out there. The inverse square law can be mathematically expressed as: I∝ 1 over d2 where I is the intensity, d is the distance, and ∝ means proportional to. This means that as the distance from the source increases, the intensity decreases by a factor of the square of the distance. For example, if the distance from a light source is doubled, the intensity of the light is reduced by a factor of four Hope this helps. Love your Videos.
I'm using a USB-C to USB A cable out from my camera and then a USB-2 extension back to my laptop. All from Tethertools (via Adorama of course) www.adorama.com/ttcu1917.html
I almost gave this (and all your others) because you have to stick your flash meter in my face. Is there any reason I should not believe you when you say the meter reads F5.6?
Gavin is not only talented he's also humble. I admire that 👊
the best
Agreed
What a gold mine of information. I only just found this series and I'm now four livestreams deep into a binging session. Thank you so much!!!

Super helpful! Thanks Gavin! Best photographer on RUclips!
Curious about the "light strainer"... I'm assuming it's DIY? Any pointers?
I loved this , thank you from me who only has a small space. Always enjoyable to watch and I always learn something useful ❤

Nice to see the return of the Gav Strain.
Amazing live session once again Gavin! Sophie is just awesome especially with hand-holding the lights! Thank you sooooo much!
Fantastic video. Loved the smoke and the hand held lighting.
Love your tutorials, Gavin.
Thanks from Northern France, for the really helpful content.
Sublime!!!
Always inspirational. Thanks for doing these.

informative content Thanks Gavin.
Great session thank you!
Thanks Gavin!
Just for fun you should take the raw file from the no flash black frame and see how far you can boost it in Lightroom to bring back an image.

Well, I am seeing it now. Very interesting. Hope to be in the next live. However, thank you for this from Dominican Republic in Sto Dgo right now.

OK, found it. It was on FB, on the Olympus UK page, now OM system UK.

Awesome. I'm inspired to turn my condo into a studio-and get a light strainer, haha! Sophie is very attractive!!!

What happened to the red light meter? The new one looks very, er, flash! Don't lose it, Gavin, they're bloody expensive.
I almost gave this (and all your others) because you have to stick your flash meter in my face. Is there any reason I should not believe you when you say the meter reads F5.6?
Brian Moore from Scotland
Instead of buying a light meter, couldn't I just download a phone app?
Just rewatched since i missed quite a bit during live, but just noticed that gavin called her chloe again at 31:56 😅
Silly Gaven 😅😂
