I see on the BBC today that a number of GWR IETs have been temporarily withdrawn owing to hair-line cracks on the bodies where they attach to the bogies. Not a good sign.
Yes, i believe they have been withdrawn due to cracks in the yaw dampers, so we'll see what happens with that and whether it turns out to be a big issue... ^OB
Actually, the cracks were at the areas where the lifting jacks are placed to raise the train during maintenance. The cracks in the yaw dampers were the first thing that was discovered, which was a separate issue. But it was from those inspections that the other cracks were discovered. Just goes to show how unobservant some of these checks really were….
I agree they aren't bad trains apart from the kitchen is in the wrong area and should be between first & standard including a buffet. Bike storage should be at one end of the train not in the middle where it's a nuisance, The seats are awful and need changing especially First Class which needs to go back to the old HST armchair seats. The ride at high speed is awful and very rough and needs addressing and finally the interiors need changing (remove that awful lime green) and put in proper GWR green carpet etc to replace the cheap Hitachi stuff.
I think it is significant that the LNER IETs had the same seats, but added padding when customers complained at the lack of comfort. GWR refused to follow suit. I also agree about buffet car service; rail companies ought to be able to make a lot of money out of the alcohol sales.
The biggedt problems with the 802s is as you mentioned are the plywood seats that have transformed them into intercity Pacers , the lack of a buffet car and not being able to walk the entire length of yhe train to find a seat when in a 10 car configuration. These poorly built trains that after less than a year in service have plastic pannels coming loss will never be icnic like the HST which it was was and failed to replace as a comfortable replacement. Who ever was incharge of outfitting these trains if not already must be fired.
The cracks probably happened due to the unsprung weight of passengers on those concrete seats.
Haha, probably 🤣
Well said! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Totally agree with you mate, LNERs are a much nicer experience and ride ^LW
That's nonsense I'm afraid, the seats on LNER were the same at build, and remain the same today.
We prefer the general experience on LNER is what we’re trying to say… not just the seats, ie the buffet
No I think they should keep the buffet
@@Scottish_Transport_Explorer Agreed.
Great
Thank you! ^OB
