@@FaZe_gay yes they will hate farm life when they experience City Life then after they will realize City Life is nothing but chaos and will go back to farm life..
In my experience calves that are over petted when young ( eg calves that are trained , and shown in juvenile classes ) are often the worst behaved in the parlour at first , when they calve.
I am very happy for you. And a couple of years ago, we had a few dairy cows that we used for milk and milked with a milking machine. Now we only raise goats and use their milk, which is almost the same as cow's milk. I really enjoy watching your videos. After that, I am inspired for new ideas. Thank you for that
I love that you show the whole process from milking the cow to filtering the milk and then skimming the milk. It makes me appreciate the process to make dairy products. Now you need your own custom milk containers!! I always look forward to watching your video and your Instagram post, they really help me escape from hard days working as a Nurse in LA. Thank you again so much!!
Here's a trick my mom use to use when she separated cream from milk. The day before she would put milk in a jug that had a valve on the bottom ( like tea or water jugs) then next day she would simply drain milk out leaving cream to be poured up. Fast and easy saved time not having to dip.
If your actually trying to milk a cow out it’s not based on time, you should feel and squeeze the utter to help release the milk and it helps to understand how full that cow is based on density, that’s why the calf bucks it’s head into the utter while feeding.... it’ll vary cow to cow but with time you’ll better understand the amount each cow produces, dominate quarters , and all that fun stuff
I'm so glad you are using the milk you skim because others look down on it and feed it to the pigs. This has to beat milking one handed into a jar!!! I'm glad for you!!!!
if you do read your comments, i love seeing your videos man, seeing your wife your kids being happy, letting your kids help with the tools and the chickens :) i love it

My Goodness Dolly looks so much better than when you brought her home, you two have done an amazingly awesome job of getting her truly healthy. She is beautiful!
Technology makes homesteading so much easier. We are still eyeing your solar system for some of our out buildings. Its also good to see we are not the only homesteaders that still feed our kids sugar cereal 😊
I still would have liked them to have used DC lights on the barn. Having that inverter running all the time likely isn't great on the batteries. If the inverter was on a switch and only used for things like the milker they would have a much more efficient off-grid system out there.

Empty boxes are always fun.👍 The milking machine is going to be such a help.🥰 Fresh cream and milk. Yummy. I used to like warm milk straight from the cow. Farm life was so enjoyable.
First of ALL, I get SO EXCITED when I see a new video from WHOTH!!!💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 Does the milk taste diff than store bought milk? That's a LOT of milk every day. I wish I could let my grandbabies taste some fresh milk AND milk a cow. 🐄 I went with a church group as a child to a dairy farm and got to milk a cow. It's such a fond memory! 💜
I want to know that too. I know that my eggs taste different from the store bought ones but I also wondered if milk would be the same too. Though there is different types of milk like 1%, 2%, and whole milk.
@@whitehouseonthehill I'll bet it's rich and wonderful to cook with. I love baking cakes with duck eggs. Haven't been able to find in many years but wish I could! 💜

Your family has really inspired me to want my own farm one day! Gonna start my own fruit and veggie garden soon, just a small one. And I might get a mini greenhouse to protect it from the cold.
When I still had children at home, we had a small working farm. We were blessed with a most wonderful cow. A Guernsey. I never had a milking machine. I never had a stall. I would just call her up and put some super yummy snacks out for her. I would turn a 5 gallon bucket upside down to sit on, and milk into a clean and sterilized bucket, (after cleaning the cows utter and teats). She was my best friend. I loved her so much. She is probably the only animal that loved me to sing (I am tone deaf). I would sing my favorite hymns and praise and worship songs to her. She would often wrap her head and neck around me to give me a hug. One of saddest days in my life was the day she passed on.
I thought for sure a milking machine would let you be able to milk her from all 4 teats... I wonder why she is so sensitive about them but let's Maisy use them... You are so sweet and patient with her particularities!
Fun fact(from my experience with my melasty): Daily use and clean of the machine after milking takes more time than milking a single cow by hand. Even if you simplify the process, you have both cold and hot water on premise(ideal situation), and do a single wash with warm water and a single rise with cold you still have to empty the reservoir three time(one for milk), and of course move the machine in position and back. When milking the cow by hand I use a small stool and milk with both hands in a bucket that I hold between the knees: in and out it takes me five minutes, while the machines needs at least ten minutes. The equation may change however when you have more cows and only do a single cleaning at the end.
It took us 40+ minutes to milk by hand because she would kick our bucket if we didn’t milk one teat at a time and she protested to her back teats being milked. This is the only way we could get it done and it doesn’t take us more than 15 minutes in total. A big time saver and we get more milk this way.
It was a big one he had so much cows about 587 and we would get them in a line and wip them and the ones that were hit would go in and I would plug the suction on the utters one time we got yellow milk from a sick cow
I milked 3 Nubian and 1 Alpine dairy goats before going to work in the morning and again in the evening. Out of the four I was getting about 2 gallons and the babies got the rest. That milker would have been a blessing to me back in the day.
Dolly saw the tripod right away. Smart girl! I pay $7 for a 1/2 gallon of raw milk with cream in the Hannibal area. I am sure you taste the difference in the milk. So full of nutrition. ❤❤❤❤❤
