Thx for this info. Very interesting. Quick question. How do you know that October DSAT test takers will be that “standardized population”? Also, do you mean to say that all the different forms handed out on October 5th will be the first time they are administered to test takers? If that’s the case, how do you know that? Is this information that college board publishes?
Public information! Technicals: satsuite.collegeboard.org/media/pdf/sat-suite-assessments-technical-manual.pdf Not everyone will get a new administrated form - but many will. Since this video, I’ve learned that there are anchor forms (the ones already tested) and then the other “new” forms are then curved based on student performance when evaluated against the anchor (serving as a baseline).
It’s impossible to determine the difficulty of the questions. That depends on your form. The curve in which it is scored on will be more lenient though = easier to score high on. Similar trend into those months but it starts tapering off - March has a tough cycle.
Yes, I can confirm this. I remember in August getting the EXACT question about square scale factor (via the question bank) that I covered in a video on the channel actually - lol.
The “curve” will be more lenient just like October/November. However, the difficulty of the questions depends on the form you get - that is not dependent on the month you take it.
Many viewers are reporting the opposite. I think it goes to show that the difficulty of the questions is not dependent on the month. However, October should have an easier “curve” due to it being college applications. Congrats on grinding through! Best of luck on your score release 🫡🗿

some said that there is going to be the question which are not gonna take any score for example that ones that are being tested wether they are difficult or not. IS IT TRUE ?
Yes, these are referred to as embedded or experimental questions. This is apart of protesting for questions to develop the difficulty/curve for future test takers.
This is not a new trend, which is based on the fact that there is indeed post test manipulation of scores by College Board. For spring SATs, the college application process has passed = an easier curve cannot be determined.
Try out this calculator tool! Attempting to get more data points but it worked for many students during the August SAT: How to PREDICT Your Digital SAT Score EARLY ruclips.net/video/iWypqGi2hXQ/видео.html
That’s very unlikely. College Board would have to find those 2-3 questions to be unfairly bias against a certain demographic in order to remove them from impacting scores. Or, a previously labeled “easy” question turns out to be “hard”. The benefits provided by a “easier curve” will not be groundbreaking (2-3 Qs is like 50+ pts) but is more like +10,20,30 pts.
It is standardized. However, for College Board to consider disparities/inconsistencies with "child questions" (specifically, unpretested) derived from "parent models" + conduct post-analysis of differential item functioning -- it requires them, in some cases, to base the equating process on CURRENT student test taking performance. This video contains some misconceptions, as I made it on a whim - I will make a updated version soon. Here is how the Digital SAT scoring/equating work (public info): satsuite.collegeboard.org/media/pdf/assessment-framework-for-digital-sat-suite.pdf
We can never predict difficulty of the questions. That depends on the form. We can predict the CURVE of the test. October and November have better "curves" due to the reasons I listed in the video = easier to score high on, or at the very least +10/20/30 pts.
I am taking the SAT at my high school. Are there any differences in the test as it is given almost a week later than the regular test date, taking place on October 11, 2024?
Respectfully, this is not accurate. I served as a student tester for The College Board's experimental PSAT/NMQST and SAT this summer. I was recruited based on my PSAT performance of last year (top 5 of 99th percentile.) The adaptive nature has removed the "standardized" aspect of the test, in that, advanced students get some of the most difficult SAT questions to ever have existed as they move on through the test. I got a perfect score on the Reading/Writing section, and missed only 2 questions on the math section. But allow me to say that was a far more difficult test because of the adaptive construct.
From my knowledge, the adaptive nature of the Digital SAT does not function on a per question basis. College Board cannot differentiate between “advanced” students from Module 1 test taking performance as the barrier for getting to Module 2 is quite low. Is the label of “advanced students” somehow predetermined? No recent changes or updates have been announced regarding test scoring methodology - perhaps they are working on something in the background which requires the experimental testing!
@@PrepworksEducation, my usage of the term "advanced student" in this context refers to how the adaptive algorithm classifies students based on their performance in Module 1. It is not a predetermined label but rather a result of the algorithm’s adjustment, which determines the difficulty of Module 2 questions. And "advanced performances" will most definitely get "blessed" with progressively more difficult questions. The main point is that the test is technically no longer comfortably "standardized." The moral of the story: If you are an advanced student, make sure that you study harder than you had originally planned.
I believe the standardization applied on the SAT is not by the difficulty of questions, but the scoring system that follows it. It is very hard to differentiate between a 1300s scorer and 1500s scorer based on Module 1 - performances on Module 2 determine that. Likewise, if you are getting more difficult questions, the penalty for missing them is lower than for missing a "easier" question. When a student enters Module 2, all the questions have been predetermined and set based on the form they receive (which results from Module 1 performances, the bar of which is set low for getting the "easier" Module 2).
Nicole, stop watching this video and go study your grammar rules, math packets, other last minute resources. Eat a good breakfast and do whatever you need to do to prepare for today! This video is largely speculative and its conclusions are tenuous at best. (Look up those vocabulary words while your at it 🙂). Good luck (Nicole and everyone else watching)!
@@PrepworksEducation While I hope you are right, I respectfully disagree. Your conclusion is by definition speculation: you can "suspect" College Board is using the October SAT test takers as a population sample, but there are certainly plenty of other sources it could use to compile data for norming. I'd also say your final 3 claims are also open to debate at least in regard to their effects, if not their validity.
I appreciate your concerns. The College Board openly admits to using post administration “initial scale confirmatory analyses” - which is important when you understand how SAT questions are created. There is a parent model, serving as templates for SAT questions, in which variations called “child questions” are created. Typically, these child questions are tested as experimental (the official term is “embedded”) questions to determine their difficulty. These are called “pretested child questions”. On the actual DSAT, the College Board claims “both pretested and unpretested [child questions], are considered available for use”. This means that the SAT assumes the difficulty of the unpretested child questions, even though no direct testing was done on them with students. After students answer these unpretested questions, College Board has to go in and do the “initial scale confirmatory analyses” among other things like Differential Item Functioning to determine the equating scale/or rather… curve. I will explain everything in depth for a future video. Source: satsuite.collegeboard.org/media/pdf/assessment-framework-for-digital-sat-suite.pdf
December is a fine test date as well! It is important to note that the extent to which the "curve" is better makes a difference of at max -/+ 30 pts. Nothing groundbreaking, but helpful!
I got a 1390 in August, can I expect a 1450 for the october SAT I’ve been studying a bit more but not as focused as the summer because of school and college app essays
Pls answer my question. I scored 1370 in august and my tutor said it is not enough for applications. I am in my application year and still havent written any essays or anything. I will apply after the october sat. Am I late?
Hey, you can always apply test optional. If you feel like you can improve a lot on the SAT, go ahead and take October. However, I would also strongly consider focusing on writing your essays NOW - those are infinitely more important than a SAT score!
@@PrepworksEducation thanks. I am an international student and I can’t pay more than 8k Dollars for college. Neither 1370 nor test optional will help me get an %80 scholarship from any school. I feel desperate. I have a guy that helps me with this stuff and he said my SAT and IELTS(7.0) scores are too low for a decent scholarship. He didn’t’t say anything about essays so far, so I have no idea about them. Is it something I can write within a week?
@@JuliaAckinson really depends on your writing skills and if you can manage to produce an excellent essay within deadline. make sure to write a really good one since it's really under your control and can determine scholarships. best of luck!
What is your opinion on me taking the November or December SAT. I took the august and did not get a good score (1380, was running for 1530s in practice test), and with balancing rigorous AP classes like Physics C, I frankly do not have much time to study. I am stronger in math than I am for reading (i got 800s many times for math but somehow got a 710 on test day), so I will have to work a lot for reading. Rather than a good curve, I want an easy test, as hard questions tend to mess with my mindset and easy questions help me keep momentum going. Thank you for all the work you do.
Hey there! Your academic classes always come first before the SAT. The trend is similar for the November and December SATs - the SATs in the fall tend to follow the trend I described in the video as opposed to say, the March SAT (has an opposite effect). So, absolutely go for it! It will be difficult to control whether the actual questions you get will be easier or harder. The SAT has many flaws regarding standardization - specific strings of questions/question types lend themselves worse or better to some peoples' skillsets.
it's funny because i got 790 last time in math but this time i got 710 as well. I got 1370 in total, but my previous score was a 1450. AND it's more funny bc I am also taking Physics C as well just like you. I am a Senior as well lol.
@@PrepworksEducationYeah. Standardized testing as a whole is a racket. They say the SAT is a measure of your ability to handle college-level work, but all it really is is a vaguely accurate test of how good you are at taking tests under time pressure. It doesnt even actually measure any college-level skills. Your course rigor and performance will be a better indicator of how prepared you are for college because Honors and AP classes are gonna be closer in difficulty to what you will actually do in college. Getting good grades in those classes will show colleges you’re ready for harder content. The SAT is just an added bonus to evaluate your test taking ability.

Fr?! I’m taking mine on the 5th, I would not mind that in this in the slightest
See for yourself here: satsuite.collegeboard.org/media/pdf/sat-suite-assessments-technical-manual.pdf 😘
Technicals: satsuite.collegeboard.org/media/pdf/sat-suite-assessments-technical-manual.pdf
Not everyone will get a new administrated form - but many will. Since this video, I’ve learned that there are anchor forms (the ones already tested) and then the other “new” forms are then curved based on student performance when evaluated against the anchor (serving as a baseline).
Oh amazing. Thanks a lot for the information. Also, does it mean that the test will be as easy in november and december?
It’s impossible to determine the difficulty of the questions. That depends on your form. The curve in which it is scored on will be more lenient though = easier to score high on.
Similar trend into those months but it starts tapering off - March has a tough cycle.
What about the November and December one? Which one should I choose?
November in my opinion
There were a lot of experimental questions. Could this attribute to the curve?
There are never more than two per module.
@@PrepworksEducation ok than it was these 2 i'm certain about. Does it still contribute to the curve?
Wish best Luck on October to everybody, and me )))
Best of luck!
very interesting and insightful video
Glad you enjoyed it
Isn't it the PSAT in October? Or can you take the SAT as well?
Hey, yes the PSAT is also in October. You can take both!
Hey, you mention there may be repeatings qs from previous forms. Are these found in the college board practice tests or question bank?
Yes, I can confirm this. I remember in August getting the EXACT question about square scale factor (via the question bank) that I covered in a video on the channel actually - lol.
Is there a similar trend for the October PSAT as well?
Is it worth taking the November SAT when I'm planning on applying for Early Action but just want more tries?
I am pretty sure you can send scores after you applied
I’m taking it in an hour, PLEASE be right bro.
Best of luck! Read the pinned comment :)
@@PrepworksEducation The questions were in fact harder, I guess we gotta wait until the scores come out. And thanks!
No problem! Best of luck on your score release :)
How will be December digital sat ? Will it be easy or difficult?
The “curve” will be more lenient just like October/November. However, the difficulty of the questions depends on the form you get - that is not dependent on the month you take it.
Will this apply to the December SAT as well?
Yes, similar trend!
Is this the same for other months this year as well or is it just October?
Similar trend for fall months!
just took it and ngl the english part was SUPER TOUGH but the math was kinda easier ngl???
Many viewers are reporting the opposite. I think it goes to show that the difficulty of the questions is not dependent on the month. However, October should have an easier “curve” due to it being college applications.
Congrats on grinding through! Best of luck on your score release 🫡🗿
@@PrepworksEducation i really hope i do well! i'm praying the studying paid off 😬😬
do you think that the scores will come out later than the usual two weeks because of all this new stuff? I'm taking it october 5th and need it to come out by october 23 for applications 😭
It’s not new stuff! This information is not publicly known because it’s hidden in a lengthy 150 page pdf doc covering SAT technicals published back in like 2017 🫡

I want to ask a question. I scored 58 and 56 out of 98 questions respectively in my practice test blue book, but I got 900 and 1150 respectively. Does a particular topic carries more make than the other coz I don’t understand why u scored a higher mark in the lowest correct answers
You will be deducted more points for missing a “easy” difficulty question compared to missing a “hard” difficulty question 🫡
at 6:08 for number 2, when u mean missing questions, do u mean i should purposely not answer the question, or should i still guess the question if i dk it
You should never leave a question blank on the SAT!
will this apply to the december sat too?
Similar trend since there will be some people taking it right before submitting regular decision applications!
some said that there is going to be the question which are not gonna take any score for example that ones that are being tested wether they are difficult or not. IS IT TRUE ?
Yes, these are referred to as embedded or experimental questions. This is apart of protesting for questions to develop the difficulty/curve for future test takers.
Will it be the same for November? I'm registered for October but still scoring very low so I intend to change it.
It’ll be a similar trend for November!
will this still apply to the spring SATs?
This is not a new trend, which is based on the fact that there is indeed post test manipulation of scores by College Board.
For spring SATs, the college application process has passed = an easier curve cannot be determined.
so does it mean oct sat takers will not get any repeated questions?
There is a possibility - but it’s unlikely for every SAT.

would it be better or worse to take it in November?
October and November would be very similar.
shout out to fellow seniors taking the test oct 5🫡
Best of luck to all of you!
wait does this mean that if you get 2-3 wrong(excluding experimental), you could potentially get a 1600 with the october curve????
That’s very unlikely. College Board would have to find those 2-3 questions to be unfairly bias against a certain demographic in order to remove them from impacting scores. Or, a previously labeled “easy” question turns out to be “hard”.
The benefits provided by a “easier curve” will not be groundbreaking (2-3 Qs is like 50+ pts) but is more like +10,20,30 pts.
@@PrepworksEducation ohhhhh ok. TYSM for ur fast reply!!!
No problem - best of luck!
But what about November SAT ? I am taking SAT in November. Please tell me will be November SAT quiet easy or not ?
By “easier”, I don’t mean the questions are easier. The “curve” is more lenient. Similar trend for both October and November.
@@PrepworksEducation🎉🎉🎉🎉 thanks bro. I hope that it’s going to be for real.
It is a “standardized test,” how can it be easier on this October?
It is standardized. However, for College Board to consider disparities/inconsistencies with "child questions" (specifically, unpretested) derived from "parent models" + conduct post-analysis of differential item functioning -- it requires them, in some cases, to base the equating process on CURRENT student test taking performance. This video contains some misconceptions, as I made it on a whim - I will make a updated version soon.
Here is how the Digital SAT scoring/equating work (public info): satsuite.collegeboard.org/media/pdf/assessment-framework-for-digital-sat-suite.pdf
Is October one easier than the November one?
The difficulty of question varies - it's impossible to tell. However, the trend of getting a easier "curve" holds true in both months.
will this be same for november?
Similar trend, but this video will explain everything! ruclips.net/video/GR37pye9LnE/видео.html
I have decided to take on Nov 2nd, will that test be easy?
Similar trend to November. Note that the “easier” effect won’t make or break scores. Expect benefits of -/+ 30 points.
@@PrepworksEducation What about December?
I think it should be applicable to it too
Yes, indeed!
@@PrepworksEducation How? Is there any specific reason to believe that? What if the October SAT is easier, the November one might be a bit harder?
We can never predict difficulty of the questions. That depends on the form. We can predict the CURVE of the test. October and November have better "curves" due to the reasons I listed in the video = easier to score high on, or at the very least +10/20/30 pts.
Will it be too late for a senior if they apply for November?
The October SAT is still a valid option if you are applying to colleges early.

It's hard to tell as of right now. Comparatively, the October SAT will have a better "curve".
does this apply for november??
Similar trend!
Bro this sats test is same for international students or not pls tell me
Hey, difficulty of questions is impossible to tell and varies regardless of US or international forms. The trend of the “curve” will hold true though.
Never fucking made another video again
Nicole, stop watching this video and go study your grammar rules, math packets, other last minute resources. Eat a good breakfast and do whatever you need to do to prepare for today! This video is largely speculative and its conclusions are tenuous at best. (Look up those vocabulary words while your at it 🙂).
Good luck (Nicole and everyone else watching)!
We base our conclusions off of fact, not speculation.
Thanks. Can you clarify where it states that College Board adjusts scaling in accordance with the findings of the scale confirmatory analysis?
What about december? that’s when i’m signed up for
December is a fine test date as well! It is important to note that the extent to which the "curve" is better makes a difference of at max -/+ 30 pts. Nothing groundbreaking, but helpful!

@@Toptier-qn5yk The SAT has many flaws. I wouldn't attribute it to any extent a fair evaluation of your academic abilities.
1380 is still top 10% in the world my guy. You should be fine as long as you have a decent GPA and arent aiming for harvard
