Petter Northug was explosive. Nobody gave us sprints like him. You can also see it uphill, when he catches up to and/or pulls away from the others. Cross-country skiing is in Norwegians' blood, and when we get an athlete who has such great talent, it's impossible not to love him - despite his faults and shortcomings.
So glad that someone is finally reacting to Petter Northug. He is a national hero ❤ Don't talk about drinking!! Watch the race!!! The strength of pulling yourself together after that accident and go and win all this... In Sweden is incredible. We forgave everything. He is a bit of a wild child and have done some other things after he quit skiing, but we still love him, to a big degree because he has faults, I think 😍
But it's. sad, that he wouldn't be showing up in Trondheim next year, Dreamteam Teresa and Petter in good shape🤩 And you're right:His races were awesome, he was a real star!
Also, an anecdote about skiing: As a kid, I was relatively good. Nothing crazy, but very solid. I remember getting passed by Liv Grete Skjelbreid in a very steep hill, at the time the best biathlon skier in the world (where you combine cross country skiing with shooting). I've never been passed so fast and humbled to that degree, she was superhuman.
I think someone else will give you a better insight on what he's up to today. I'm really not that into sports. But I can give you the bit I know! He absolutely love Ylvis! 😂 When the first episode about him aired he posted a BAD joke about how he really don't like them. But it was more like a "they made fun of me, I'm making fun of them" situation. But some people took it seriously! 😂 And! This is important! I'm gonna teach you a norwegian word that you need to know! 🤭 And please say it to ALL sweeds! 🤭 BARNE-SKIRENN! 🤭🤭🤭 That PISSES sweeds off SO MUCH! 😂 It is Petter Northugs most famous quote. He just finished a race beating his biggest Swedish rival. And he just said "Barne-skirenn!", meaning "Child-race", aka "too easy". 😂 The poor sweeds always trying to beat us at skis, but we always get a new star. This days we have a new star named Klæbø. 😎
How hard is skiing: It can be relatively easy, even for beginners. Downhill will be a challenge, and uphill will take some effort. On the straigth it'll probably look clumsy for a while, but it'll work.To ski like professionals, however, is extremely hard. It shouldn't discourage people, though. A beginner can't play football like Messi, so what? Cross country skiing is one of the most accessible winter sports, because you can practice and improve a lot on a flat surface.
Yeah i was gonna say. Cross country is fairly simple at the normal level. And accessible. Meaning that if you want to excel, you need to be amazing. If ten thousand people can do a sport, being in the top 10 is great. But if hundreds of million people can do it? Being in the top 10 is pretty spectacular.
He's a good dude. He made a mistake, shortly after retiring. He's a loud mouth, and won't hesitate to shit talk. But again, he's a good dude. He's closing in on 40 years old, and currently planning a comeback. Swedes are shitting themselves with fear.
He also had a problem with cocaine for a while that he did admit. Dont recall who said it, but it was a former athlete that said it is not uncomon for big athletes to start with some sort of drug or other criminal activities to try and get the same high as when competing and winning. Think he did help him back on track, atleast he wanted too. Sadly I do not recall who said this.
I'm norwegian. Grew up with cross contry skiing. Never liked it. :) There are skiers and there are some that sort of "runs" with skies on their feet. Petter is one of them, he is a VERY good cross country skier, one of the absolute best. And the stamina on these guys...was it Dæhli that had an O2 intake at 97%???
No, you cannot appeal after five years. You have lost your license. But after five years you can get a _new_ license by qualifying. I think it's morally wrong for someone who has permanently lost their license to be able to get a new one. In the case of driving while intoxicated, there might be a deal where you could get a new license under the condition that you must regularly take urine tests and if you ever drink or use again, you go to prison for a long time.
People can change. He had a drinking problem, a lot of it due to being who he is and all the attention and pressure. Now he has sobered up. Do you also think everyone who goes to prison should be punished for the rest of their lives or if you do somethink you regret, fex in your youth?
@@In_my_own_mind I don't see it as punishment. It is reasonable to expect that a certain percentage of people who work in kindergartens are pedophiles, because that's where the children are, but they don't abuse children. If they do, they go to prison and they can redeem themselves, but they can never work in a kindergarten again. Is that eternal punishment? I don't think so. The focus on punishment is wrong in general, but particularly when it comes to sex and drugs, because it alters your reasoning. We have a man locked up unlimited for brutally raping and torturing women. He promises never to do it again, but he stands by his claim that sexual sadism is just like homosexuality and that his need to brutalize women is just as valid as two people wanting to have sex. I can't let that man out on the streets. I have no wish to punish him, but I must have control over him. If you drive a car after drinking, then you can either never drink again or never drive again. I think that's quite reasonable and quite soft, actually. When you choose to drive a car after drinking, you are choosing to risk someone's life without their concent. Isn't that even worse than rape? Most rapes are committed by drunk men, you know. Forgive and forget? That's not respect. If you have done something once, I respect that you have a problem that we need to prevent. Punishment should be used when reasonable people take a reasonable risk. The risk of punishment makes the risk unreasonable, so they don't do it. Unreasonable people don't behave that way, so punishment doesn't work for them.
I never liked the guy, but I don't see how drunk-driving has anything to do with his job as an athlete. His driving is a private matter, something he did as a "civilian" and not related to sport. He was punished for it as any other citizen, and that's it. No need to bring it up again later on. Even though the round-about where it happened is still locally called Northug's round-about ;-)
Yes he made a terrible mistake. But we have no clue why he left, so I will not judge him, especially when you can see he feel so much remorsel because of it. But yes alcohol and driving should never be an option.
He served his punishment so stop talking about it! Actually, right now he is training to be on top again as a competitive country cross skier in his "old" age! Impressive! Just a few clicks and you would know just a bare minimum about competitive skiing.
"Stop talking about it", geez, this is the first time I even knew about it. Also, I don't know anything about competitive skiing, that's why I was recommended this video. These are first time reactions, which means I'm discovering something new every video.

Hi Kari! Welcome to members area 😊
@@NordicReactions Thank you! 😀

Oh man, what a memory though. Liv Grete was a beast!
Petter is know for teasing his competitors a bit, from skiing on one ski through the finish line to even skiing backwards through it 😂
😅🤣
Now we have Klæbo in Sprint. I hope he bevomes an allrounder as Petter was.

There's no excuse for drunk driving. I never do it, except if I'm too drunk to walk, of course.
😂
There's that Norwegian dark humour we all love 😂🤣

5 mila, 50 km. I wpold have used a week for that. :D
amazing athlete, poor sportsman
Petter Northug comeback most likely this winter '24-'25 season. Also for female CC skier Therese Johaug. Buckle up ya'll !
I dont give Petter much chance at winning any race but Therese will as usual be hard to deal with.

Dæhlie's highest measured VO2 max value was 96 I believe, but it's not a percentage, it's ml/kg/min. Milligrams of O2 per kg of bodyweight per minute.
@@styx85 I know. I have done the test myself many years ago. I reached 65. :D I took a year of, don't know what it is in English, but "kroppsøving".
