thank you so much sir your videos helped me a lot for my project and the comment section cleared almost all my doubts you are doing a great job keep it up sir
Thank you very much. 1. As per my knowledge, In code tables are given for square and triangular tower. So no need to go for shielding effect as cf is considered including back frame. And if you are going any frame like for water tank or ano other than u can use shielding effect based on distance between frames. 2. You can use gust factor and must be used for high towers. We use in transmission towers. Your views are most welcome
I'm glad that you people are showing such patience ... I'm working on the same and promise to come with effective video. Please give me some more time. thanks for watching and being a part of eciviltech.
eCivil-Tech. Dear sir, I have some questions and could not find right answer online. 1. Why did you release the moment at pins at a time the pin does not transfer any moment? 2. What is the difference between having 5 m2 EPAa at only one face or 5 m2 at each face (20 m2 in total)? I mean besides its dead load, does it make any change in wind load calculation? 3. If the azimuth of antenna is not parallel with wind direction, should I use EPAa = EPAnsin2theta + EPAtcos2theta? 4 when we say a wind puts load on a face, it also puts some load at the face behind too, should I consider that in calculation? Thank you so much
Dear Mabast, 1. If we don't release the bracing at it's end, it will start taking moment then it will try to act as a main member. It might be possible in some cases where it will attract more moment than your main member. consequently bracing members will come very heavy and uneconomical. To avoid such things we release at it's ends or you can choose truss specification in Staad. Here in our model Pipe leg section is main member which should take more axial force and moment. Bracing will prevent the main section from buckling.. (By providing bracings we are actually reducing effective length of column, just like trusses. Bracing will take only axial load i.e. compression or tension only). 2. EPA stands for effective projected area. Consider if you're taking about about a GSM antena with EPA 5 sqm, that means while calculating wind load you've to consider exposed area to wind = 5 sqm only not 20sqm. 3. For GSM antina no need to go for any complicated formula . You can consider the cases what I've considered in this video which is sufficient. But for Microwave antenna follow tables C1,C2,C3 and C4 as per ANSI-TIA-222G. I'm suggesting to follow the tables as in some cases microwave antenna are very large as 2.8m or 4.2 dia etc. 4. There will be two forces one will be on windward (Pushing) and other will be on leeward (drag force). But if you're calculating load from IS 875 part 3, then you've to apply from front only. As Cf contains both the effects. I hope this will be helpful to you. If you like the video then pls hit the like button and share with your friends. Regards
Dear sir, thank you for your reply, it is very helpful. I could check a rooftop tower with your notes. I have another issue with its foundation. how can i design a rooftop tower foundation with staad pro?
Most welcome. I will do videos on PEB. But after completing this tower. So it will take time. But now as subscribers are increasing day by day, I'll give more time to eCiviltech and try to deliver more videos. Also thanks for being part of eCiviltech. 😊
Is there any dynamic effect due to wind load as per clause 9.1 IS 875 part 3 (2015). Can you give example how we can provide dynamic effect of wind load on chimmney?
Hello Sir, Many thanks for your great work and efforts. just i would like to ask you if you have any videos according to American codes like ASCE07 Regards
I am not very familiar with ASCE 07 . But if specs required american code, I think you can go with ANSI/TIA 222-G. Here you get everything for antenna tower and mono-pole.

Hi siddhesh, If you are using staad connect series, you can see material menu just above working window. Click on that menu, a window called "material whole structure" will pop-up at right bottom corner. You can put all properties in that window. For material properties refer IS 800:2007 clause no. 2.2.4.1 page no. 12.
Right now i'm working on two videos. My next video will be on Engineering mechanics which will be uploaded in November and after that design of telecommunication tower i.e. 4th video of series. In future I'll surely make some videos on crane girder design. By the way if you want to do it by your self, you can refer book "Limit states design of steel structures" by S.K. Duggal
While applying the uniform wind force on the tower (angles and circular section); why did you take the area of the circular section as diameter and the area of angles as width?.
Hello sir you are saying that allowable deflection is according to the clients requirement but how much degree the deflection can be taken? And which code says about this please tell me
Hi Mushin, Other face is not ignored it is covered in calculated cf. I have applied all the loads on front face only. You can also do half of total force and apply on both faces.
Deflection is serviceability criteria. It totally depends on clients requirements and type of structure. For telecom tower client himself will give you his deflection criteria as per equipment which they are going to install on that tower. Generally they ask for 1 degree to 2 degree angle from vertical.
For which structure you want to design cage ladder. Generally we dont design ladder as it is not primary or main structure. Ususally we give L50x50x4 angle section for ladder sides and 16 dia bar for steps. Use 40x4 thick plates for cage. For which structure you want to design ladder?

Hi, Please can you respond to my queries below,1. Why wind load applied only on Winward Face and why not on Leedward face2. Wats tha basis for 0.5 deg allowable deflection.3. how about allowable horizontal twist.
Hi, 1. Wind load is applied only in front because rear will be in shadow of front. By the way the coefficient factor given in IS code includes both. 2. Deflection is totally clients requirement. Client will give you their requirements. 3. Horizontal twist will be very negligible. As there is no long arm in this particular structure. Thanks

Hello sir could you please do tapered slip joint monopole transmission tower in staad model. I am very new to staad and am not civil engineer. Please guide me
