    There probably aren't a lot of people that this video serves, but seriously, thank you for making it. The instructions that came with this heater are complete shit. I read it four times and didn't understand what it was saying - my reading comprehension or not, for something so important IE not cooking your fish, you would think the instructions would be more clear and easier to understand. I had a heater fail, the fish expert I trust at petsmart exchanged it for this one, and tried to explain the calibration settings with the two rings. My tank was already over temp at 80F ( the previous heater failed and didn't shut off, which I caught in time, thanks OCD ) and when I put the Jager into the tank it was staying on. Panic googling brought me to your video. TLDR; You made this very easy to understand, and the heater is currently calibrating correctly. THANK YOU.

  • @LXXero

    lol...i'll never forget my one LFS owner on the latest eheim/jager heaters, somewhat sarcastically: "You're paying all that money for a heater and they make you calibrate it?"
    While the ability to recalibrate it is nice, I found it a royal pain, and ultimately my eheim's calibration just kept getting worse and worse to the point the heater just wouldn't turn on unless it was turned nearly all the way up. So yeah - i call it toast.
    I have at least two LFS that still have green ebo-jager heaters in nearly all their tanks. I know as a kid, 15 years ago, those were already replaced by the blue-capped models. So how old are those green ones, 20, 25, 30 years old? And they still work? Why aren't heaters built like this anymore? My blue-top eheim is already dead. I'm sticking with aqueon pro's on my apex or on inkbird itc-308s for now.....The more I think about those green jagers - the more angry it makes me - as I think heaters have actually gone down in quality since then and it makes me sad....

      I'm also using an Inkbird ITC-308. I want something that will last, but won't break the bank. I've read the aqueon pro's split in half though which makes me nervous. However, that's where the temp controller comes into play. How's the pro been holding up for you?

      UPDATE... (NOT your fault but..) After following your instruction on pre-setting the heater, it never shut off - or so the light indicated.. I kept an eye on the temperature which did not budge and after 14 hours of the indicator light being on steadily, I came to the conclusion that it was - as the old saying goes... Dead in the water! Why would such a great aquarium hobby manufacture make something so simple - difficult to work with? A simple dial works all the same. It's like Ehiem is worried the fish might try to tamper with the heaters... REALLY???
      Mine is now in its new location btw... G tank!

    Try fitting an Eheim 300W heater into a 5 gallon bucket. Doesn’t work. These heaters are double the length of most other heaters. I also found the Eheim suction cups to be some of the worst in the hobby. They get hard very quickly and start to fail, resulting in a heater laying on the substrate or hanging by the cord. I have three Eheim heaters and only one is accurate. Tried to recalibrate numerous times but they are jacked. Switched to Aqueon Pro.

    • @midorialexandros
      @midorialexandros 4 года назад

      Marineland Pro has tooooooooooooooons of issues with never shutting off and cooking fish. That failure is very consistent, if it fails 9/10 that's the failure that happens. I don't recommend any Marineland heaters. BOTH of the ones I've had failed, and the only reason I caught the temperature before my fish were injured was my OCD and working from home. Aqueon's Pro is awesome! So far this jager has been great.

    I have two of these heaters and I just could not get the calibration settings to work right so I ended up eye balling them in a bucket of water until I got the temp set to where I wanted it. It took an extra day, but that was all part of the planning I did before I set up my tank. Still, the temp was not as stable as I wanted so I replaced the one in my reef tank with a Neo-Therm. It works really well. I use the Jagers to heat my mix water and as a back up heater. In my Freshwater tanks I use Mainland Precision Digital heaters and they are great.

    The stupid thing with this red dial is, and the reason most heaters dont have/need one is; once youve set a temp (on a standard kind of heater) and realised that it is undertemp by 2 degrees. all you have to do it overtemp the dial by 2 degrees and check again, if that is now perfect you can leave the heater to do its thing for the rest of its serviceable life. Having a calibrated needle pointer seems a bit pointeless as heaters are set and forget anyway, unless you continuously change the temp of your tank for some reason such as breeding.. However, having said this, the reason im looking at jager videos is because im buying one. My "superfish" one is too slow to react to a water change

    Old video but yeah, eheim makes a long lasting heater but they suck when it comes to calibration. I usually don't even bother setting the dial. The one I just bought the other week and set up a few days ago can't be dialed in properly. It has a limit how much you can adjust it and it seems it was off by about 12 degrees f. Adjusted it as far as it would go and the displayed setting is still off by 3-4 degrees.

      *BAD IDEA!*
      Several Reasons why:
      1) It's an Aquarium, *NOT* a Tea Kettle. Heaters are either *OFF* or *ON at Full Power.* There is no "Warm Setting".
      Rapid rises in Temperature are detrimental to your Fish.
      2) *150 Watts* is Sufficient for 240 L, especially if the Tank is in a heated room.
      3) *EJ* Heaters are designed to be mounted *Vertically* to operate properly. A *300 Watt* Won't fit in your tank properly.

    • @SKYLANDBAK
      @SKYLANDBAK 5 лет назад +1

      el gezouli abdul - If you think logically, the energy bill won't differ from using 300w instead of a 200w...The 300w will turn on for shorter periods but cost more in electric as you are burning an extra 100w, similarly the 200w heater will be on for longer periods, but burn 100w less for those periods...The energy consumed by both heaters whilst heating to a set temperature over a given period of time will be the same...

      While we'd like to think that all of the gear we use on our reef tanks is perfect, the truth is that it's not. With the Eheim Jager heater being one of the least expensive heaters on the market, having to adjust calibration slightly is to be expected. We actually consider the ability to calibrate a feature!

      If your heater is always on and your tank is still not getting up to the desired temperature, you may simply need a larger heater. Or, a second heater to supplement the first one.

    I'm totally lost on the purpose of calibrating a heater. Whatever happened to "set it/forget it"? I'll stay with my durable and less expensive Aquatop heaters.

    I would avoid these heaters at all costs. I've had five Eheim Jager heaters since March of 2022 and within a few weeks or days they all got stuck in the on position at one time or another and I could not lower the temperatures or recalibrate them causing the tanks to overheat. Their customer service is awful and I'm not even going to bother trying to return them to the company as at best they would replace them with the same garbage, and I'll have to buy new ones anyway of another brand. Total waste of a couple hundred dollars.

    Calibrating this thermometer is confusing and inaccurate

      @@SKYLANDBAK Cause you cant turn the red bit that much, it is stuck between like 6c. I have two in 2 separate tanks, one is set to 22c and one is set to 23c but it heats both tanks to 26c I cannot adjust it because I can only move the red arrow as far as 24c so it's always going to be 2c higher at best. I want both tanks to be about 23c but I dont want to set the heater to like 19-20c to get it do it right.

    I've got two of these and they're awful. They never keep the right temp. I can set it to 78 and it got up to 83 and then down to 75. So hot and cold all day and night. Seriously stresses the fish. These things are junk.
