they did not operate on the surface during combat. they would only do that until they found something and were stalking prey. granted, their prey was usually boats that couldn't fight back, but that wasn't always the case.
Back in the day I read the book Submarines in Artic Waters by Admiral Ivan Kolyshkin. In it, even getting through Cold War era Soviet political editors, he clearly states that WWII Soviet submarines, while active, also had numerous technical issues, and kind of sucked. I wonder how they are going to be portrayed in WOWS.
I´ve been playing WOWs for 6 years, I used to be one of those people that played at least 3 or 4 hours every day. Ever since subs came out, I´ve been playing less and less. Now it´s almost impossible not to have both CVs and subs in a Randoms match. Hence, now I log in once or twice a week. I stay away from Randoms and concentrate mainly on Brawls or other game modes that are less likely to be crawling with CVs and subs. I get my three coal containers of the day and I log out. So the addition of Soviet subs will be all the more reason not to play the game anymore for me.
Take your hatred and use it to make an AA or ASW build. Become the hunter of the thing you hate. I mean unless you just want to complain that you can’t use your damage build with impunity?

Wait, so what about the T10 US Battleship Oregon? I played against it a couple days ago and I can't find it in the wiki or anywhere. It also had an extra button, not a funny button, but something else with (I think) 3 shells with a + next to them.
Grow up and stop whining about subs. For the majority of the time, unless things go perfectly right, subs are destroyed very quickly. Once you're spotted, if there are 2+ ships around, good luck. Learn to play as a team, don't get caught out alone, and you should be good. That's your problem.
You know, as much as I dislike subs, these ones sound acceptable! The main issue I have with subs are the homing torps and the constant pinging, but I'm more than ok with subs that play more like a typical torp DD, that can just dip underwater for a minute. Though we'll see how these subs actually work when introduced. I may end up eating my words...
As someone who's played most of the submarines (and against all of them) in game I couldn't agree more. My favourite submarines to play are the ones that focus on getting in close with risky attack runs that can result in glorious alpha strikes. I also prefer fighting these subs as you treat them roughly like a Shima or Jager but with alternative methods for catching them out. Homing torp subs like the German (and now the British ones sadly) are just dull to play and annoying/frustrating to play against. I think these Soviet subs are going to be high skill floor but high skill ceiling, and I'm pretty excited about that. Sort of a tangent, but I played out the whole British line as sub-hunters as their more agile torpedos and large number of front-facing torpedos made them ideal for catching and killing other subs. I get the reason they did the shotgunning nerf, I just wish they didn't kill sub vs sub combat in the same stroke, as the British and German subs now kind of feel the same. The British had some legendary sub-hunters historically, and I would like British submarines to reflect that in game.

The only sub I've played atleast a few games in is the soviet premium, because it uses standard torps as it's main weapon instead of the homing ones. Subs like that are also a lot more manageable to face in game.
tier x specials containers is like... coal gambling? and subs on the surface mostly feels a little like how german uboats in ww1 operated except they were underwater until surface to sink something.
Nothey werent. The first subs to ever operate mostly underwater were the type21 in ww2. Or maybe i am missunderstanding you, that you do mean that when spotting a enemy ship, first thing they did is dive, then identify the ship, and if safe to engage on the surface, thats whatthey would do. Cause thats the only way i could see your comment be atleast somewhat correct. Submarines in ww1 in general operated on the surface. They were more like torpedo boats that could dive to evade enemy retalliation with a max underwatertime of maybe half a day, and thats at an absolute crawl
This should be no surprise to most of us. The only thing that a player can do is quit playing the game if subs bother you that much, or learn how to counter them and play them at least some to get an idea of how the submarines work. Thanks you as always for the great content.

Just stared playing this game on ps5. The player base is awful. Nobody helps you and they already run and hide in the corner while you fight the whole enemy team. Terrible matchmaking. Every game is a blow out for one side or the other.
Its not better on PC. Every game is a blowout. I suspect WG do it on purpose - stacking all the better players on one team, to encourage the losers to spend money on ships.

Well any resonable sub commander won't ping you all the time, just like a light cruiser will not hit you when close to you full broadside to exploit themselves for certain death. Usualy its the subs that don't ping where you should worry. So bringing subs where you have to do that and possibly having some people learn how to play subs will bother even more sub deniers, but then, maybe the sub deniers will try to play using their ASW instead of crying that there is a sub in game for several years. Overall I'm looking forward to it.

What I mean by that is, the sub usualy is on one or other flank right? Where there would be about 3-6 ships usualy with ASW airstrike at first ping if all drop their charges somewhere around, some have to hit and with the quantity the job will be at least very hard for the sub. If its 6 ships around the sub is just dead in seconds if they hit a few strikes. And many people will just cry out loud another sub, hate speech, but wont send a single ASW strike... Also you can just casualy send random strikes to where you think the sub might be, somewhat mirror the position of friendly sub. If a random strike hits, its a gain huge pain for the sub. Also most high tier BBs are doing around 30kts and can usualy just run away, and while the underwater speed of 4501 is greater in most cases, you can still cover more distance than the torps can do. The fact that it can circle around and just spam 10 torps every what 40 seconds is challenging at least, but having that on mind, its also always in ASW range... While I would agree some BBs are just lost when they find themselves alone around a sub, but then again, you shouldn't be in the position at the first place and since ASW update, the sub has it hard these days in similar position having only little intel. It also helps to keep moving and changing directions just as presuming a DD is around. We have 20km torps in game so there could always be a torp coming your way if you were the sniper sitting on one spot kind. By your approach I presume this is meant more for the ones I called to be crying all the time in general and not for you, but still it might help.

You could fire manual secondaries on any ship along with individual guns torps easily on any ship. The modeling was not as good as WOW, but I don't remember any protected classes. It died in NA a few years back but it was a good competitor to WOWS. It was a Chinese game if I remember correctly. The comments became a cesspool of outright racism, nonsense and resembled a chat room filled with 16 year olds. It was a good game though. Its last months you usually only had a maximum of 5 or 6 against on each side. You saw the same players just about every game.
The only thing more annoying about subs and carriers are people who’ve made their whole personality hating subs and carriers. Also you ever notice that those same people never play/build AA or ASW ships?
