As a teen, I thought Squall was an asshole for this. As an adult, I get it. She's his superior, trying to force him into a situation where he is to be her therapist, after waking up in the infirmary, besting a fire demon, practically carrying Seifer's performance in a live warzone, giving a speech for his promotion to SeeD, and then when you finally get any downtime at a party in your honor for your graduation, your commanding officer ORDERS you to go into a live combat training... To what is basically "makeout point"... So she can give a rant over her demotion and "woe is me" in a feeble attempt to garner pity from Squall, past midnight? I don't blame Squall at all. Quistis is a complex character, but she was beyond inappropriate and completely inconsiderate to "order" her subordinate in that situation, and Squall - who isn't her friend, but her student up until that moment - had every right to be sick of it because it was bullshit. My boy was probably exhausted and just wanted to go to bed, poor guy.
I think we also have to take into a point Quistis is only a year older than Squall too, and was kind of forced to grow up and become an instructor and soldier in a way quicker than everyone around her, cutting her off from that emotional maturity people develop in their teen years. It's still very inappropriate and wrong of her and I don't blame Squall either, but I wish we got a little more about how that impacted and stunted Quistis' emotional maturity.
While ur not wrong squall and quistis is not tht different regarding how they end up there as a mercenary's safe to say at some point with his achievement he too would be thrown into a job where he have to babysit another rookie assuming the story in-game is not happening. the difference is squall manage to keep everything inside him and only shown little to other , everyone outside his circle admire him his ethic his capabilities but the ones who close to him know how predictable he is and how he have trouble to express his feeling his thoughts. I think this is why quistis is trying to share her though her problem to him here thinking he might understand but she forgot to consider tht squall way of dealing something is with "what ever, I don't care, just get on with it etc".
I don't mind the whole teacher/student dynamic. The thing is that Quistis is kind of forcing him to open up more and Squall didn't took it well. It just doesn't feel "natural." That's why Squall rejected her. And I can relate to that. Never force someone to open up.
Quistis got friendzoned into oblivion. "Then go talk to a wall" ruthless. People say Squall was an edgelord, whatever that means, but he was just making good practical points.
@@trix_42Hard agree! My girl was taken advantage of as a child prodigy, losing a lot of her time to be a kid and mature, even in comparison to the other SeeDs. And I wish they'd given that a little more screen time in the game since Quistis seems to get reduced to the "sexy teacher with an inappropriate crush" than the victim of trauma in one way or another (I also have a theory that she was potentially groomed in more ways than one, considering it seems like she's been lead to believe those student teacher interactions are okay but thats another story) like all the other orphans were too.
As a child I didn’t even have much to say about this scene but after playing it as an adult I can fully say that I agree with Squall she was hitting on him hard and he made it no secret that he wasn’t having it, with that said, for the first time this would be where I want to bit*h slap the brat, she just saved your sorry ass the least you could do is be civil. Thank god there is a scene later on (missable) where these two have closure and Squall shows some growth.
This part had confused me for 20+ years. I didn't understand why she brought me here. With my immersive gaming, I'd always add my own dialogue and say "H'wat!? Dang it, Quistis! You brought me all the way here just to tell me that you got demoted!? If you had told me this on the balcony, I'd already be asleep in my dorm right now! This is nonsense!" It wasn't until recently that I finally realized that she had a thing for Squall. Or at least she thought she did until she later figured out that it was her childhood feelings of wanting to be like Ellone that lingered
Actually She still has a crush on Squall, it's just that she tried convincing herself it's a misplaced feelings but then admitted to herself that who is she kidding. She just let go, cause Rinoa is there for Cloud. Currently playing the HD remastered right now and really shipping Quistis with Squall hard.
Bad game not gonna lie. I’ve never understood the praise it gets. It’s like a very early version of 13: pure, unadulterated garbage for the PS1. Being between several good titles doesn’t give 8 a pass.
