Love your channel, all stuff and no fluff.
our new motto.
Nice to find a treat in the snow.
I enjoy watching your video's , Just wish they were longer and more of them
Great video with an expert doing a job that looks tremendously hard to get right. Your Channel is growing ! Word is getting out how good it is.
Peter Grant thanks!
You sir, are doing it right!
That first flush will be so satisfying!
a trick : you can watch series at flixzone. I've been using them for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.
@Rylan Kody Yea, I have been using flixzone} for months myself =)
I love all the music too. Have added to my Spotify playlist
Wow you are lucky to be in a so smooth weather... Here in Quebec as we have 3 months at an averaged -15° F. Our codes does not allow to pass pipe in exterior walls as this is restricted to insulation and can not be chrushed... Here you would have to do a box in a corner, over the exterior wall drywall for you vent or in a middle wall, in between rooms using the joists gap to reach it... On external walls, only electricity is allowed, over the polyethylene sheet passing behind forrence in the air barrier.
Climates really affect the codes and ultimately the cost of construction...
Interesting to see the differences...
I agree with you 100% in regards to new construction vs service. I have been in the glass trade for 42 years and I have always enjoyed the service side of the trade. Installing window systems in large towers was never my cup of tea. Keep up the great work. 🇨🇦
Hears probably the best tip you'll ever hear.on your kitchen cabinets cut the center style and pin nail it to one cabnit door so much easier to access sink drain & supply lines
Nothing like an ice cold root beer with USDA prime tenderloin with a side of zucchini and hot potato after a hard days tedious labor 😋
And a hot shower to boot
Even tough you don't like new construction plumbing, you have to admit, it is nice to go on auto-pilot sometimes. I am a Journeyman Electrician and I don't care for Residential work at all, I prefer the Industrial work myself. It is nice sometimes, doing electrical work on my own house, to just work without having to think- auto-pilot as they say. Sometimes it is relaxing for me, even if boring sometimes. I really enjoy your videos, keep up the good work.
agreed.
I likely said it before, but I tremendously anticipate and enjoy the progress on your home! Thank you!
Debbie M thank you...
This is great. I keep going out to my husband and saying “ do u know what a CSST is? “ What’s a PSI.?” I get the look. Lol
I am with you I don't enjoy new plumbing. I like fixing it over laying it out. It definitely shows you've got experience doing it it come out perfect. Perfection is what you don't see anymore. Woodstove looks like it is working well.
That is looking great, I learned a lot just watching. Keep up the great job, thank you for sharing. 👍🏼👍🏼
You going faster with house by your self then the other house build channel plfl i watch they get help from so many people and still is not dryed in yet!!! Your a great worker i enjoy this channel
thx
Red Poppy Ranch you welcome
You can tell your a pro my friend .I myself have two cabins to do the same on this coming spring and summer maybe !!!
Keep up the good work and God bless you man!!!
enjoy this site- always waiting for next video-
Looking good
You might have a problem with that kitchen sink drain. The inspector may want to see a san tee sitting vertical so that the vent runs vertical to above flood rim before running horizontal. At least that's what the inspectors around here want to see. Everything looks nice and clean! 👍
Our local code requires a metal strap on the face of studs where pipe runs thru a stud....Something to check into for you local plumbing codes....Here one can find tons of different codes like this from towns right next to each other..
USAGeorge Pa. nail plates...
USA Washington - GA Nail Plates as well.
another great video 😊 absolutely love each one...
DEL DEREK - I still come across lead on water and gas pipes here in the UK. And large size waste pipe found in iron is still very common in older properties. Usually sealed with what we call Denzo tape. It's a roll of fibre tape impregnated with wax. We still sell it and sometimes it does get you out of the s...t, literally and metaphorically, so to speak.
There are no lead gas pipes in the Uk.
The metal soil pipes you are mentioning above were made of cast iron. The joints were made with fire rope and cast hot lead.
In my 35 years as a plumber and registered gas engineer i never saw a joint with Denzo tape.
Denzo tape is for a diy and bodger's work,i never bought or used Denzo tape in my life,i always did a proper repair so it can last.
Public buildings still use cast iron pipes outside for soil and copper inside inside because of their strength.
Wow, no lead pipe carrying gas at all in any property in the whole of uk. Checked 'em all have you. But who am I to argue with a 35 year old veteran. Never seen a toilet sealed onto a waste outlet with Denzo? In my 2 months as a RUclipsr and commentator I can't understand, if they're still selling Denzo tape, where are they're putting it all. Only for DIYers? Funny that, cause when I worked for 25 years in the chemical Industry it was used on pipework all over the chemical plants on our COMAH site. Good enough for industry but not a domestic property right. I guess we were just bodging it up though, that's the chemical industry for you. People on a budget use Denzo when they can't afford £90 an hour plus VAT charges, and it might look ugly but it does work and it does last. But of course you wouldn't know cause you haven't seen it, used it or even researched it. It's for bodgers right, ...in industry.
The man on this channel was a professional plumber and he is working to regulations, are you advising him to use Denzo tape on the joints? are you a plumber or gas engineer?
Fantastic. Another day closer wonderful
Nice. With you doing the drywall you will remember the lines are there, my brother hired his drywall out and they run screws in his drains in several places. I put sheet metal strips over the studs where I ran mine so I wouldn't screw my own cause I knew I would forget
Nail plates.
Red Poppy Ranch yes those things
nice progress
Just stumbled on your videos and of course i have to subscribe so i can follow your progress. Love watching your work and can’t wait to see the finished product!
Thanks for watching.
That last minute impulse to add a 3" line is God talking to you. Good decision.
Kaisu Fisken I think so.
Great job !!
MERRY CHRISTMAS Too You And The Family ! Russ Robinson > Ann Arbor , Michigan
Loving your videos
It's nice seeing a professional do plumbing, Heath. I re-did my bathroom once. My wife had to stand over me and threaten me to get it finished. I did a good job for someone who is very ignorant about plumbing. Will you continue with plumbing as a business?
I hope not.
As good as you are at doing videos and ranking them you could do that.
Doing good keep it up. From MAINE
New plumbing was only fun the first few times, I agree. But plumbing your own family's living space still brings a sense of accomplishment, doesn't it? Glad to see the tin/galvanized behind the woodstove.
Thomas Russell yes. One more thing off the list.
Lots of inspections goin' on in the Land of the Free...
Super
Very relaxing viewing. Finding a difference with the stove, all fired up?
Scottish NS Rail Fan yes
Wood burning stove must make working very comfortable 👍 Are you going to use Pex or copper. I understand Pex can expand if frozen, sounds great. No connections inside the walls. Pex pipe is cheaper than copper, is there a down side?? Looking Great 👍 Vinny 🇺🇸
mmanut we’ll use pex. Much easier to work with
Beer is bottled under pressure. I drank a beer left out on the windowsill.
It was liquid until I poured it down my throat.
Steve Wiseburn lol
Guessing you don't get near as cold in S Idaho as we do in western Canada. Would never put any sewer drain lines; especially traps; in an exterior wall. Even the vertical lines will eventually build up with ice and everything stops and freezes solid.
Around the 7 minute mark at the laundry area, you can have a p trap in the cold zone in the wall cavity? Even if it passes it doesn't seem wise.
I'll insulate it.
On a plumber’s truck: WE REPAIR WHAT YOUR HUSBAND FIXED
Same with the electric, if the house is still standing!
Coming along nicely.. So when do you get it inspected so you can finish it up?
Gregg Woods after water and gas lines are in
Do you have well and septic system? You probably covered this before but I’m new. Also, what are the details of your solar electricity plan? And finally, will you also use propane gas? Great video series and kudos to your family.
Mike Barbacovi we will use propane for stove and water heater. 7kw solar. Septic is done. Well will get done once it dries out
New PLumbing.. tedious ~ YES! but doesn't it feel good to know you are one step closer to puutting the walls up?!? Great work Heath~! Mmmmm YummY RootBeer :) xoxoxo
yes
You do good your man
You should add a pocket door 2 your restroom 2 make it have more space
Gee ... Snow in Idaho ... who would have guessed?
fun story about your root beer we had a can of beer rolled off the side of the boat 1 day we could not find it in the boat 6 year later the can came out was, it at the can, di, not break the can of beer you think it would freeze and break the can the can was not deformed too
the joke was when the fish and wildlife stop use we said if they find it they could have it had one look for it and could not find it
we have a camera pushed throw the boat and never seen it at
So constructing a house is a lot like putting a gigantic jigsaw puzzle together. Piece of Cake. haha. So plumbing cannot start till your construct the 2X4 framing of the rooms?
yes
If you are off the grid, where does your dirty water go?
Like, does it just go unfiltered into your environment or what do you do with it?
Septic system.
sorry if you already answered this; how warm does the wood stove make it inside?
tongsli it was in the 50s
What are your plans for the concrete pour house?
he will make it into a shop
I had shark bites one failed rather quickly. I like copper expensive but worth the long term! Is that abs for drain?Around here they dont have black abs? It's only comes in mobile homes. Pvc is all we have at hard wares?
Black abs.
A.B.S. plastic pipe.Sorry was up late?
Just install a vent for the kitchen sink under the sink.
scotty362100 Not true. I used to build houses in Western NC and we installed those in new homes with no issues. Yes, we tried to run a roof vent but if it was not possible then we installed one under the sink. I had one in my house and never had a single issue for the 4 years that I lived in it.
How much strength is left to hold up that window header after the pipe is put though it.
plenty
when you build the big house would you give the first house to one of your children so at least some of them could be close to you and your wife
We're not building the big house. This is it. The foundation is going to be a shop but if the kids chose to live up here we will make room somewhere.
looks like you have done that a couple of times...
Siphon breaks?
Sorry but I laughed when I seen that glue hit your camera
There's always something...
Is this your first house you built? If so how did you learn all the codes?
Jon Bozzy yes. Research. 15 years in construction. Talking with those that know
Why ABS is it code where you’re at. We use only PVC in Ohio very few places even carry ABS anymore here
I could have used pvc. I actually like pvc dwv but I already had a bunch of abs fittings.
that's not the backhoe did i miss some thing
How is that wood stove working out ?
great.
Hold that big in the stud unless you put a header above that pipe there's no way you're going to be able to look that load transferred out those sticks it's going to crush the pipe so how do you how do you fix that
What is the temperature inside the house now?
shartne it was in the 50s
Can see you have done this before.???
William Kirkland couple times.
are you in UPC territory or IPC?
IPC
Just for my own knowledge why did you use ABS
It's what I had. I had a bunch of left over fittings. I thought about PVC but decided to use up what I had.
You know you'll never get anything done from now on . I seen you through you're round to it in the stove.lol
I know nothing about PEX, but have seen a lot of discussions of failures. I copied one that kind of sums it up (Ithink) and might be worth researching;
Before you plumb the house, Seriously consider using the Uponor (Pex A) System. The connectors are Way, Way cheaper than the "Shark Bite" system you are using for this project. AND, they are Way, Way, easier to install then those compression rings, especially in tight spaces. I have recently chosen Uponor/Pex A for my project and the "Expansion" system is so much better than the "Compression" system because the fittings are always being contracted against by the PEx and Uponor Ring. By-the-way, I am replacing a "Compression ring" Pex system that has begun to leak !!!!! Unfortunately, Home Depot and Lowes only carry compression ring style Pex and fittings, so, you will need to find a "Real Plumbing" supplier in your area (also very available over the Internet. Check out videos on the ProPex/Uponor system.
I've used wirsbo for years. Wirsbo expansion rings and cold weather do not get along. I would never use sharkbites. They are not approved for in wall applications in most counties. PEX and crimp rings is what I will use.
lastniceguy1 - the compression ring system actually has a higher pressure rating than Uponor/Wirsbo. The crimp system is the one to stay away from as it is very unreliable and prone to failure. However, the compression ring system flaw is that the fittings choke down the flow, so you either need to oversize the pipe or be conservative with the number of fittings and system length. That's what I like about Uponor/Wirsbo...the fittings are full flow - same inner diameter as the pipe. Heath is right about Uponor/Wirsbo being a pain in the butt to install in cold weather.
Sounds like they are all controversial. Think I'd want a sight glass at all connectors. lol
Dude, this man IS a plumber. Please.
Spacing for a toilet is 13" from the unfinished wall, your wasting space.
15"
scotty362100 I like the 13" from framing but 12" is the very minimum.
scotty362100 I am the boss and I've been doing plumbing for 18 years. 12" from finished is the very minimum and the tank will touch the wall and cause mold and be impossible to clean behind but what do I know I've only installed more toilets than that engineer has sat on.
scotty362100 just keep voting the way your rep tells you and a good supply of lip balm on hand and you'll be fine.
I do horses, carpentry, plumbing NOOOOO !
pete pepich good to know your limits...
Plumbing is such a bore.
Looks like a pro job!
Thanx for sharin'!
