    I'm just sad we're losing the beautiful greens that came with Superia. Had I known it was killed off I wouldn't have loaded my second to last roll.

    Superia 400 was classic Fuji, cool blues, greens pop and so do reds. White balance was clear on this, whites came out white. Kodak always produced films with a yellow (warm) base and that blends in to all the colours, creating a warm tone. It depends which look you want.

      I agree, I’ve always leaned more on the warmer tones that Kodak offers

    I took a roll of fuji 400 and cinestill 800t to a foo fighers concert (front of the pit) last year in a small town called big sky in south Montana. Keep in mind I shot this on a canon AE-1 with a 50mm f1.2 prime lens but I pushed it to 1600 iso (and maybe even 3200 iso as I was new to film at the time). The fuji 400 blew me away at how resiliant it was and I didnt even understand how it worked at all but the fuji roll took a lot of the best photos I had shot on that night. The place where 800t shined was shots with red in them. Incredible film for the orice its going for in my opinion

    Where I live in NJ, the only Fuji ISO 400 film is the newer version. The same applies to the current Fuji 200. And the Walmarts around here don't seem to carry any film at all anymore.

    When I started shooting film everyone online was telling me to use gold or ultramax as my starting film but where I live my Walmart never had gold in stock and didn’t carry ultramax. As a result I grabbed superia and absolutely loved it. The way it handles shadows and colors when overexposed a bit is so wonderful. Whenever I would see 3packs available during my Walmart grocery runs I’d grab a box for my freezer because I couldn’t afford any of the professional film stocks at the time. I’m glad now in hindsight that I did because now that it’s gone I still have rolls of it to shoot through.
    I’m hoping they bring it back one day because having other film stocks allows people to have subtle changes in the flavour of their image.

      I do hope that Fujifilm sticks with producing film. Having options, especially with color film, is good for the entire industry.

    Fuji finally released a data sheet for the new Fujifilm 400 and it’s definitely not the same as Ultramax today. It’s definitely made by Kodak though and has similar red sensitivity to Kodak.
    Of course look is subjective and so so dependent on how it’s scanned and I’m testing the both next to each other right now. So I can’t say anything certain for sure right now but I’ve shot a lot of Superia 400 and it’s one of the best films out there if scanned correctly. When scanned on a Fuji scanner the film is very clean and underexposed better than any other film other than Portra 800. It also performed better than any other native C41 film in tungsten light. But it’s definitely harder to scan yourself. I recommend using the Frontier model, with Lab contrast, and 50% Crystal LUT in NLP.

      Going to give your settings a whirl tonight. My first two rolls(which were superia) I ever shot I used a local lab as well as tried scanning myself using a flatbed. I’d love to see how those photos look with the alternative settings you provided. Going to dslr scan them and put them through your settings

      @@sneakingelephant Don’t forget that color balancing is necessary with any color negative film. You can use one of the auto color modes and then I recommend experimenting with the CMY/RGB sliders in NLP.

    Weird, I don’t see any news on FujiFilm Canada of Superia being discontinued. They still show Superia X-tra 400 and 200 listed and no mention of a FujiFilm 400. Superia is in stores everywhere around here. I have not seen this FujiFilm 400 yet. I hope they haven’t discontinued it Superia X-tra 400 is one of my favourites and cheap.

    I loaded this on my konica A4 and got the scans a while ago. Idk but all of my shots without flash taken outdoors with sunny weather and taken indoors w/o flash were dim af. It was so dark and grainy so I can’t post process it to save the shots. The ones taken with flash were fine. I thought it was an isolated case and maybe I was the problem or my cam but someone from my photography group had the same experience. Using p&s, flashed photos were ok, photos w/o flash were all dark. Idk what’s the problem with the films distributed to our country. This was the first time I encountered this problem.

    The new Fujifilm 400 is definitely not UltraMax in color rendition, though it has similar red sensitivity to Kodak. To my eye, it looks less warm toned, than Gold or UltraMax is.

    Wouldn't it be nice if they made it in 120. I noticed the forest shots that 35mm film just can't handle all of the fine details.. something I been noticing in my shots as well.. I usually do digital woodland photography and tried it with 35mm film and just can't get it to look good. Going to drag out my RB67 and try it.

    I just picked up two rolls of the new 400 juju made in the usa. I’m also shooting film for the first time in decades. Any advice on the settings for night photography, say around the campfire. I’m probably going to bring two cameras. One, a manual Bell and Howell 35 from the 60s, and the other an Olympus superzoom 2800 dxl that I found in my Grandmothers belongings. I was hoping to use one as a night camera and one a day using two different film stocks but it looks like I’ll just have this 400. So any advice on how to get best out of both light situations on this film would be appreciated.

      I would recommend putting the camera on the tripod and use a shutter release cable to get the most stable shot. I would also recommend to give the film a bit more light that you think it might need. Also, if you have an external light meter, that could help out a lot with getting proper exposures. Best of luck with the night time photos!

    Who said Superia is out of production? It isn’t shipped to the US. Still sold in Japan and to a degree in EU though.

      @michaelbennettphoto  10 месяцев назад

      I’ve read in multiple places that it was out of production. It hasn’t been sold in US stores for a while and on online websites, it’s either doesn’t show up when searched for or says “discontinued”. From what I’ve seen, it’s not that Superia will never be made again, but as of right now production has been halted.

    • @Frisenette
      @Frisenette 10 месяцев назад

      @@michaelbennettphotoneither “discontinued” or hearsay indicate anything other than they stopped exporting. No announcement from Fuji is the clue. Of course they would announce it.

      @michaelbennettphoto  10 месяцев назад

      “With the welcome shift in market demand for color film driven by younger generations (GenZ/Millennials) discovering, and revitalizing film photography, Fujifilm is pleased to announce the updated release of “FUJIFILM 400” (ISO400 color negative film) in single roll and three packs. This replaces the existing ISO 400 color negative film.”
      This is a statement from Fujifilm. Also, just because film is still being sold in other markets that doesn’t necessarily mean that that film stock is still currently being made. It could be leftover stock. And I’m not saying that Superia will not be produced ever again. From what I’ve read there’s just been a pause on production due to supply chain issues. The film stock just isn’t being sold here in the US, which is the only market that I’m familiar with so for all intents and purposes, it’s “out of production”.

    Can you not correct cyan/red colour crossover? I can do it on Photoshop Elements with ease, on scanned neg images, and that's not even the full fat version of Photoshop. In my opinion, just about every scanned photo benefits from a little tickling up in the electronic paintbox.
