Post-apocalyptic Precure Hakkenden by Takashi Murakami and Studio Poncotan. Never officially released in English, aired only once on Japanese TV and never released on discs. You can get the fan-translated episodes on your favorite anime torrent tracker.
Seven episodes have been released, at the time of writing this. 15 episodes are planned in total, but the production stopped after 2019 due to the pandemic and may or may not resume in 2023 after the release of Takashi Murakami's "Mememe no Kurage 2", depending on circumstances.

Pink Princess transformation from episode 3 (ep. 1 version might be a bit too risque for RUclips).
Blue Princess transformation from episode 3.
Yellow Princess transformation from episode 5.
Purple/Green/Gold Princess transformations from episode 4.
Black Princess doesn't have a proper transformation scene as of right now.
Yes, this franchise started with that reasonably well-known Pink or Black song performed by Hatsune Miku for a cosmetics ad.

You can get all seven fan-translated episodes on your favorite anime torrent tracker.
Only seven episodes have aired so far, with the last one airing in 2019. On 19.12.2022 Poncotan announced that they resumed working on the show twitter.com/poncotan_info/status/1604793668245680128.
There is, unfortunately, no official translation - other than the three subtitled episodes that were shown at a few US/UK festivals that I'm pretty sure none of us here visited.
There should be eight princesses since there are eight Japanese characters at the end of each transformation.
@@Mihoshi009 yes, but a) the show title was retained from the previous pilots with a different setting, b) the show is on hiatus (if not cancelled altogether) so we never got a proper transformation sequence of Black, the seventh one, and we don't know anything whatsoever about the eighth one (other than Fuyuse being that Princess in the distant past).

I like the fact that the three girls in the beginning looked different compared to their pre-transformed states. (Especially the one with the glasses.)
Then it makes more sense when nobody can figure out who these magical girls actually are.

Interesting is that the transformation sequence has an Onmyouji theme but the Magical Girl form is your traditional magical girl frilly sailor uniform. They even write the kanji of their color like Mojikara.
I assume that's because the main designs existed long before they decided on the themes (I mean, they were first used for a Murakami exhibit teaser PV in 2010 and a cosmetics ad with a Hatsune Miku song a few years later). By contrast, the historical Princesses from the flashback have a wild variety of suits, from shrine maiden and Buddhist monk to pirate and ninja.
The Shinkenger parallel is fun, yeah, this might be yet another pop culture reference out of dozens in this show. Or maybe just a coincidence.
Those kanji are actually the virtues of bushido. In order they were compassion, righteousness, politeness, (I couldn’t read what the purple one was actually), sincerity (though it used the kanji for trust), and loyalty.

They really pushed magical girl transformations imo, amazing sequence and music, each a unique beat and movements and a traditional twist rarely seen, and the tattoos which I love. Have to agree with previous comments though wish the outfits had more traditional twist and been more unique to each character's personality!

This animation was created by an indie animation studio. This is incredible amazing, better than a lot of big studios out there. I hope they are still working on the series.😊
They sort of are still working on it, but on radio silence again for most of this year, so here's to hoping.
Also, while they're not a part of the anime industry at large, they're very much professional, just mostly working on other Murakami-affiliated projects that actually bring in the cash, unlike 6HP, - so "indie", while not technically incorrect, is really underselling their capabilities.

I'm thinking this is hypothetical because this is completely untrue. There are plenty of dark skinned people who live in Japan some of which are Japanese themselves. Not just mixed or foreign people. This isn't to say it's common but it's not something that's as rare as you make it out to be. Regardless, seeing a darker skinned character is like finding a needle in a haystack when it comes to anime.
There's nothing wrong with being excited about it. I think the best comparison I could come up with would be if a TV show mentions the state/city/county you're from. It's exciting because *you're* from there. It's pleasant to see something that is related in some way to you.

This is really well done and looks pretty. The transformations each had a slightly different feel and not just the same standard movements for everybody.

Iirc 14-17, the standard age range of magical girls. The art style in this show is very deformed, making even adults look unnaturally small. Also, aging in this show's setting works in peculiar ways.

Dunno, the zoom in and slow pan to a detailed belly button feels pretty intentional, they know what they are doing.

If you're after that go the Precure route indeed. This series isn't about suffering, but it's not at all happy-go-lucky either, at least when it comes to the desolate setting and the war flashbacks.

Well yes, it's called "watch something that isn't Madoka for once".
there are a lot of magical girl anime and manga that arent just "omg suffering and shock value" while still being enjoyable, they're just overshadowed by edgy madoka clones that unfairly steal the spotlight
precure, while made for children, is great for a wholesome positive show while still having badass and emotional moments, for that i would recommend the original futari wa precure and heartcatch precure (i cried at least five times watching it, maybe im just sensitive but the emotional moments hit HARD in precure)
some other series that i really enjoy are "i messed up and made the wrong person into a magical girl" an action comedy manga about a mascot accidentally choosing a hardcore delinquent as a magical girl
another one is "magical destroyers" a show about otaku culture with really bizarre animation and visuals while still being funny as shit imo and retaining the classic magical girl charm
there was another more mature manga about magical girls who save people from committing suicide, but i've forgotten the name of it which is a shame cause it seemed REALLY good

Except she isn't Middle Eastern, she is Japanese. Her name is Japanese, Chidori Kanade. In Japan, there are people who have dark skin, unlike majority white-skinned Japanese. Example are the Hayato tribe that came from Kyushu or people from Okinawa. There are theories that they are Austronesian-descent that came to Japan before 7th century because they mostly lived in Southern Japan. You can see a lot of manga and anime depicted dark-skinned people. Unless otherwise stated, most of the time, they are Japanese from Southern Japan. An example is Koito from Golden Kamuy.

This isn't a kids show right...? These transformations are oddly perverted, and it has about the cultural sensitivity as an American cartoon from the 90's would be.
It's definitely not a kids show, it's post-apocalyptic sci-fi by a reasonably famous (and indeed at times provocative, for better or worse) postmodernist artist. It does happen to draw most of its inspiration from Precure, but it only aired like once and very, very far away from actual morning blocks.

Black Princess doesn't really have a proper transformation scene yet.
As for White Princess, assuming that would be the name of the Princess with the Kou (filial piety) sphere, we don't know who that would even be in the present. The historical Princess with that sphere, Fuyuse, never transformed on screen.

Probably not happening, given that it's not a normal TV show and it doesn't have any corporate sponsorship, but there are artbooks on sale on Amazon Japan and occasionally some t-shirts on Murakami's Zingarokk website (probably long sold out by now).

Yeah, there’s only a tad change, Gold Princess’s is probably the most changed, her hair gets bigger and isn’t in a half up half down ponytail like her civilian form.

As someone who gets the ick from loli stuff, this is definitely NOT for me lmao. I hate hate hate how when their clothes disappear, they're framed to be sexy, and the sparkles cover the bare minimum. If I had to say something in depth: the animation sure is nice, and the sound when they pose at the end is very satisfying. I think it's interesting how girl #3 seemingly changes archetypes, too. I like the gimmick of writing a symbol in the air but I was disappointed that they simplified the motion for the more complex kanji. I don't like how big their heads are, it makes their proportions weird. Sometimes they make their arms too long for a few frames as well. I appreciate the inclusion of a dark skinned girl (though I know why they did it and it's not to be inclusive) but I hate the fact that they gave one girl big bazongas. How old are they even supposed to be? They look, like, 7-9 years old. Anyway, that's all. I hope RUclips doesn't bombard me with content from this anime because I clicked + commented on one video once.
Remember: nutting to fictional children can be seen as harmless, but it does affect how you see real children over time. Be mindful of what kind of person you want to be, but don't beat yourself up over something you're not in control over. I don't remember their exact age, they're most likely still underage, but given their school classes they should be about 15-17. The style is quite deformed here, many adults in this show also have rather big heads. That said - given the creator, who is known for provocative artworks, making the characters look more loli than they are may well have been intentional...
The motions were probably simplified due to production limitations, it took them two attempts a year apart to even air the episode with the first transformation scene actually included... (by the way, don't ever look up the early CGI version of the transformation, that one was too creepy even by my questionable standards)
