    Hi bill great review, I had one of red range 13ft float rods, had it for year or two until I unfortunately not even trying to hooked into a huge carp at the angel of the north fishery (lookout pond) I believe it was called, it was a common defiantly over 20lbs it was massive, my personal best which I caught on a different rod is 17lb and it was far far bigger then that I know because I seen it several times, apparently there are few in there over 30lb but you never think you will hook into one especially when your fishing single maggot, anyway about 15-20 into the fight i thought the fish was ready for the net, I put the landing net in the water and the fish spooked and ran very hard for some reeds to my left I obviously positioned the rod to counter this but unfortunately under massive pressure it snapped/shattered were you connect the first and second sections the line also snapped about 10 seconds later to add insult to injury, I was using 4lb daiwa hyper sensor and I thought the line would have snapped first but I must have just got super unlucky, unfortunately the rod was out of warranty so it couldn’t be replaced, but then again don’t think they would have replaced it even if it was as it’s not designed to catch 20lb+ carp and they probably would have said it was misused, up until that point the rod had been impeccable landing carp to around 7lbs absolutely no problem at all, literally ridiculously good for 55 pounds like you said no other manufacturers lower end rods come close in my opinion, after it snapped I ended of getting an acolyte 13ft, which yes is better but definitely not 3-4 times better which the price would suggest ( I payed 180 pounds), in reflection I honestly wish I just bought another red range maybe a vertex as while the acolyte is a nice rod it doesn’t warrant the huge increase in price and certainly isn’t anywhere near as good as say the top of the line daiwa’ s or brownings, which some of my friends have, this video has inspired me I’m going to go to my local tackle shop tomorrow and buy another red range 13ft as there down to 50 pounds in a sale, many thanks bill

    Thanks Bill. Fairly new to fishing and I'm looking for a decent all-rounder that won't break the bank, and will still be useful whatever else might buy after a few years.
    Anyway I'm ordering one now in 13ft, so thanks for a good honest review. I'm sure I'll be happy with it.

    Took your advice and bought one a couple of years ago Bill, can't fault it or add anything to your comments, just a great rod for the price.

      Garry Robson Hi in my humble opinion these are very good for us ‘normal’ anglers and I do have more expensive/powerful models to compare it too! Bill

    Good quality rods. I have the carp feeder and withstands barbel and carp no problem. I also own both float and feeder rods in the Acolyte plus range,. You cannot go wrong with anything stamped Drennan.

      FeatherToFloat Hi I agree with you totally on this! Drennan don’t rush untested products out, unlike some, and they are made to do a good job at affordable prices. Most importantly they help you catch more fish and make fishing easier for all. Bill

      Welsh Fisher Hi well I was fed up with reading or seeing people raving about this new pole/ rod after telling people how wonderful last years new model was? As a result I only review equipment that I have paid for and used for a long time. I do own top range gear as well but the average angler doesn’t usually own “flagship” gear so this is the sort of tackle I have used on a long term basis. Do you ever fish for sea fish or coarse fish on the fly? I have dabbled with fly fishing for pike and mackerel and it was great fun, but I’m well behind the times when it comes to game fishing, but I do occasionally fish Grafham Water, without a huge amount of success I admit! Bill

    I'm torn whether to get the red or spend a bit more on the vertex or even the specialist .. any thoughts ?

      I have a couple of red range rods, the 13ft float and 10ft method feeder. I'm very pleased with them, the quality and feel seems like they would cost more than they do. Treat yourself to the best you can reasonably afford and if that is a red range rod you won't be disappointed.

    Hey Bill, how can I get an Easy Fishing t shirt?

      Robert A. K Hi well at the moment I have had a few made up for testing. I am wearing and washing them frequently to see how they hold up to normal use. I want a tee shirt that will last. At the moment I don’t have a website to sell stuff on but when I’m happy with the product I will get one sorted. Price wise these cost me a fair bit so will have to sort the pricing out! I anticipate being ready to sell by Christmas. Bill

    Are there any advantages of a longer rod apart from casting further?

    • @easyfishing1936
      @easyfishing1936  5 лет назад

      Robert Kilminster Hi let’s clear up one thing longer rods do not necessarily cast further. The reason for a 13 ft rod is line control when fishing the waggler or trotting a stick float. Because of the swing to commercial fisheries they have made shorter float rods popular. This is because most are aimed at pellet waggler fishing which involves constant casting and feeding, which is why most anglers fail when they try it. Also about 30 yards is as far as you can feed a 6 or 8 mm pellet so no long casting or picking up long lengths of line hence a shorter rod. Years ago 12 ft (3.6 mtrs) was considered normal but that was down to material limitations. Glass fibre is fine at shorter lengths but to heavy and clumsy at 13 or 14 ft. I hope this helps. Bill
