Dan talking about driving 200 miles only to turn around should really open some eyes about the concentration and discipline it takes to hunt mature bucks.

By the time the puppet commander-in-steal gets threw jacking fuel and everything else, who knows what we'll be dealing with. Sure glad we don't have to haul our cannon every time. But you're right on the discipline and concentration with mature bucks, as far as opening eyes, some never learn.

Been a follower of yours since your Blood Brothers outdoors video about marsh hunting came out. I have learned more about hunting bedding areas, being mobile, and wind and thermals from your videos, forum, and youtube channel than I would have in 3 lifetimes of experience. The hunting beast community is the best group of hunters ever assembled. Thanks for all you do for the hunting community. I hope I run into you one day just to shake your hand and personally thank you.

Dan your a better man then me . I understand minding your own business but their is a point that you should do something . He crossed the line and I would have hunted him . I would have put cameras along his trail , his tree stand and where you have to park . And when I got enough proof , I would have turned him in . Its people like him that ruin hunting . And I would have really enjoyed hunting him . Not to harm him but to complete the plan . It would have been great to get him and the big buck .
Great tee shirt . Thanks for sharing . I can't wait until deer season opens , looking forward for your videos .

I was thinking you would need to take someone in to bait with you and have them walk out. Might have worked. Might not have. But I figured the way you were describing how he came in right after you baited, he was watching nearby. Wish you could have gotten him. Thanks for sharing.

I saw a film once where these researcher were studding a wild bird sanctuary. They had a problem that when the birds watched someone enter the study blind they would not come back come back out into the field. So that they did was to have two people enter the blind, wait a few seconds, then one guy would leave and the other would stay, and conduct the research. So when the birds saw someone leave the blind they felt safe again and would come back to the fields. Maybe you need to take a buddy with you then have him walk out alone after you get set up in your stand?

  • @michiganman4398

When I used to bait I would have someone walk with me to my stand and then walk back out after putting out the bait when I got up in the stand. Worked out surprisingly well because the deer would think whoever was there had left. Got several bucks including my biggest 8 point using that tactic.

This video is awesome! I love your videos! I would like to see a video on how a mobile hunter goes in blind in the morning based on technology apps. I miss using reflector tacks and having a quite entry. Mornings are my best hunts in the past. Going in mobile in the morning is crazy! Make so much noise and when u finally get set up as the sun comes up u realize there’s a dead limb swaying in the wind that will take u out if it brakes. Then u go way off corse when u leave. Mobile hunting is hard as hell

We would like to see more videos like this. Videos on how you found certain bucks you killed or didn't kill. What your game plan was to kill them and the mistakes you made, etc. And like others have said. You should've turned in that idiot baiting that same buck. It is OUR responsibility as hunters to help catch these idiots and turn them in. If we continue to let them break the law, they will continue to ruin your hunts. It was obvious he ruined that spot by overhunting it and probably could've shot that buck illegally. That could explain why you never saw the buck again.

same thing happened to me dan watched a buck grow to 4 yrs old over 200” had a poacher that lived less than a mile away from where i hunted and he shot the buck what a shame and hunters shouldnt treat each other negatively it should be all positive vibes with fellow hunters but it cant be that way everyone wants the buck so they resort to only thinking about self dont get me wrong there are still people with the old hunting spirit it’s starting to take all of the fun out of hunting for me really i cant share memories with people anylonger from all of the negativity that they bring now adays ive been hunting for a long time im 45 and now hunt alone and dont share anything hunting related with anyone i know i get my hunting comeradery and deer camp experience and making memories with the beast family by watching your videos every time you go hunting dan as long as your filming bro im there with you making memories you guys are awsome thanks for all of the knowledge 🤟

Hey Dan, this is what i want a video of: say i pick a good spot on a map and maybe check it out once during a midday, and wanna go in for an all day hunt in that spot like mid October timeframe. Would you put up sticks and stand early before daylight, or would you sit against a tree until daylight and then pick a tree and climb at that time ??? So a video on best options for setting up for a morning or all day hunt during a time when bucks might come thru any time of day. thanks.

Pattern behavior. Two people walk in, one hops in the stand the other walks back out. To that buck, the threat is gone, maybe down him first sit. What do I know though I’m no pro but I’ve used it to my advantage and can confirm it works. Never on anything that nice though. Works well for roadside hunting too. 2cents

Michigan public land hunter. Hardest state in the country with the highest number of bow hunters. If I harvest a deer every year I’m happy. I love venison. One thing I hear often is those giants are remote isolated from other deer but often when I see them it’s mid to late rut and they are tending does in really accessible places. I watch all kinds of videos of people talking about wind and in them they will talk about land features, but I’m hard pressed to find any info on actually explaining what land features are called and what they look like on a topo. I’m a self taught newer hunter and can identify some things, but I still don’t know what certain land features are called and how to identify them on a topo or while I’m in the woods.

Dr. Ken Nordberg talks about doing this exact thing with his sons. Worked for them. Hindsight is always 20/20. You never know.

I was thinking the same thing. I believe animals can’t count. We used to do a similar thing. When I was young, we would hunt pigeons in abandoned farmyard barns. 2 guys in a car. Drive to the barn. Pigeons fly away. 1 guy get out, hide in the barn. Other guy drive away. The pigeons would fly right back.
You could do the same. 2 guys go in after the buck, 1 leave, 1 stay and hunt.

Loves these buck stories. Keep it up. Even better if there’s a kill. And waiting for a few more deer drive videos. That’s our bread and butter over here in Minnesota

Deer have that sixth sense, but those big ones have a seventh sense. Even if they don't detect you, they always manage to hang back that yard or two that you can't get a shot. Or they always stop behind a tree. Walk down the trail you expected them too and just turn off the trail casually and walk right out of your life.

Big old bears do the same thing as this buck. They know your pattern and bed within sight and smell. We learned to bait bears with two people they get used to the two smells and while one baits the other climbs the tree. Then leaves and shortly after the bear show up. So this maybe will help you. But I think if you left in a different direction then you came in at it would better your odds. Route out of sight slightly off wind. Good luck on this one. I experienced the same thing on a 13 pointer. Eating popcorn out of our baits.

Dan. I Bear hunted Clark County Wis. last year. Baits were hit sporadically. then 1 day I found out why! Dog hunters are allowed to Practice wherever they want. Baits were hit then the dogs would chase them away!!! Frustrating!!! Too many hunters also. Got an E tag this year. Lots of wolves this year! Good Luck this year!

Great video Dan. Also, that area is popular with LARGE group drives during rifle season. That big buck somehow got around them too.

God I hate cameras. Absolutely no disrespect and full acknowledgement of their legality, but God do I hate cameras. Industry has figured out how to allow the hunter to have eyes on the forest from a thousand miles off or even when they’re fast asleep, cozied up in their beds. The number of videos I’ve watched where all intel gathered to collect a massive buck was all from cameras and not woodsmanship turning the hunt into a hit. It just doesn’t come across as being fair chase when all of the most important details necessary for success can be obtained, even in the hunters absence. Long long gone are the days of “ghost bucks” that leave giant tracks and here are the days of filling in the blanks with technology who’s danger goes completely un noticed by game. I’ll forever be too selfish to share my successes in the woods with a computer. All the best.

Wow what a buck !! On public in the last 35 years I only seen maybe 3 probably 130inch bucks give or take a few inches in my life and that's counting driver around and scouting too, seen a lot more on private , but not much maybe half dozen or so but probably my fault was a traditional Hunter same blind same spot weekend after weekend year after year change spots did the same thing too I took my share of bucks on public but pretty much typical Michigan buck. got lucky and got 118 inch lol.. watching your channel learn a lot being mobile. and i am seeing a lot more bucks i wish what i know now back then I what of had fewer bigger ones for sure thinking back how I screw up on some of them big ones , now I'm teaching my son your techniques so in his years he will be able to score on some of big ones he run across in his time .

Great stuff Dan, it’s a shame you didn’t get that buck. We will have 2-3 guys walk in to bait bear in Arkansas, and they do the same thing. When season opens one guy stays and often tags a bear within an hour. Love the shirt!! Good luck this coming season
