    Thank you for all your advice Dr. Raga. I did my step 1 in July and thank God I passed. I'm now in my fourth year of medical school. I'm hoping to do the step 2 CK next year but I'm not sure when. Godspeed in all of your endeavors.

      you can entrer in a médical school with the usmle ? I thought it was for entering in residency . Please explain me because I 'm kinda confused now

    • @aurelcato7465
      @aurelcato7465 8 лет назад

      You have to be enrolled into medical school to be able to do USMLE. USMLE step 1, Step 2 and Step 3 are for residency. For US medical students they can get into residency with their step 1 scores but IMGs will need ECFMG certification Step 1, Step 2 CK and Step 2CS passes to get into residency. Step 3 is done during residency. I hope this was helpful :)

    Can I ask to what degree the UWorld questions similar to actual usmle exam ?

    • @DoctorRaga
      @DoctorRaga  8 лет назад +6

      I would say that the Uworld questions is what helped me the most in getting used to answering the exam questions in a timely manner! I felt the length of their questions and the way they frame their questions is VERY similar to the exam! And even its layout closely resembles that of the actual exam.

    Hi Dr. Raga. Hope you're having a wonderful day. :)
    I'm Currently preparing for the S2CK. The day of the test is 05/31/2017. I've already read a book called Step Up to Medicine, and I'm currently studying from the First Aid for the S2CK and I purchase a 3-month subscription of UWORLD. I try to take notes in the FA book from the answers of UWORLD. My plan is to finish both resources , UW and FAS2CK, at least 10 days before te test in order to read for a last time the FAS2CK with all my notes. Do you consider this a good strategy or would you consider it a little bit of an overkill?
    And, in your experience, how much information from the Step 1 comes again in the Step 2CK. Would you say that's a good idea to read a few subjects from the FA for the Step 1?
    Thanks in advance, and good luck! :)

    • @DoctorRaga
      @DoctorRaga  7 лет назад +1

      Hello! Your strategy sounds good and hope you do great in your exam! I did see that the Step 1 prep would be good for creating a foundation for the step 2 CK. So if you feel there are any topics of the CK that you don't fully understand, then it would be a good idea to probably try to go through just that topic in Step 1 to get a better understanding!
      All the best!

    Thanks a lot Doctor for your comprehensive review.
    I am preparing for USMLE and frankly struggling. I graduated 9 years ago and to be honest have done little real study through out (besides reading the Medscape news and some seminaries to keep up).
    I have a few specific questions for you: How many hours a day is needed to cover the material in 4-5 months? Doing questions since the beginning of the preparation is advisable rather than wait until cover a complete subject to incorporate the questions into the training?
    what is the best strategy you have found to retain the information and details?
    I sincerely look forward to your view on this matter.
    All the best in your current and future endeavors !

    hi doc.. what about the students who wish to start the preparations for step 2 CK from scratch. Meaning do they need to first study miscellaneous books for the subjects like Harrisons for medicine and Bailey and Love for Surgery or just hop on to the Kaplan videos and Lecture notes right away?

    Thanks for your advice. I was wondering if the study helped you with your internship? Also, when you do the UWorld QBank, do you do it in accordance to subjects, or do you just do random blocks? Thanks in advance, I am not sure which way to do it. I am only doing it to help my medical knowledge - am an intern at the moment!!

    • @DoctorRaga
      @DoctorRaga  8 лет назад +2

      Yes! I definitely felt the Qbank really helped me during my internship! I felt I was more capable of making sound management plans for my patients and I was able to answer most of the questions that the attendings were asking me during the rounds!
      When I did the Qbank, i did random timed blocks from the very beginning! I feel it is better to do it that way because that will train you very well for the exam setting!
      I have mentioned more about how i used the Qbank in my "Step 1 preparation video" if you want to check that out!

      Yes i did hear about that during my prep. MTB is said to be great for studying for IM. FA is said to be a better book for the remaining specialties. However, I was not able to get my hands on a copy of MTB in time and therefore i did FA for IM as well!

    hey Dr Raga..Do we IMGs need to take step 3 before applying for match..Is there any advantages or disadvantages?

    • @DoctorRaga
      @DoctorRaga  7 лет назад +2

      It is not compulsory for an IMG to take the step 3 before applying for the match. However, you can definitely take it before applying. If you get a decent score in your step 3, that will really support your application since you have completed all the boards with a good score. However, if you had a low score in your step 3, it might hurt your application! So that should be your judgement call!

    Thank u doctor for these tips
    Do I understand from you that Kaplan videos together with 1st aid book and u-world Q-bank is the guarantor to get high grade ?
    What about Flash Cards, and what do you say about USMLE Secrets books ?
    I was shocked when you said that the preparation for those who are working is a period of 4 to 5 months
    Is this really enough period ?? And how to distribute all materials in this narrow time with a review and resolve questions ???

    • @DoctorRaga
      @DoctorRaga  7 лет назад +2

      Hi Muhammad! The amount of time that you need for preparation is subjective! It just depends on what kind of a learner you are. For me, that period turned out to be more than sufficient for the Step 2 ck. You require more prep time for the Step 1.
      And with regards to the resources, from MY personal experience, if you FULLY complete these resources with full understanding, there is no reason why you wouldn't get a good score! Infact, too many resources might sometimes also be disadvantageous. But again, please remember that this is just my humble opinion and in no way am i saying that this is the right way to prepare! :)

    Thanks for sharing your exam preparation experience , ;In my medical school people are of the view that taking step2ck before step 1 will affect ur step2ck score ;I m n final year of my medical school and for me taking step2ck before step1 is more feasible ;as u have taken step2ck first is it raelly so??

    • @DoctorRaga
      @DoctorRaga  7 лет назад +2

      Obviously different people have different opinions. I faced the same dilemma when i was trying to decide which step to take first! Now that i have taken the steps, my honest opinion is that it would be much better for anyones preparation to take the Step 1 before the Step 2 CK. But again, this is just my humble opinion! :)

    Thank you so much for the videos, they are very helpful and motivational too. :) quick question, i really like the format and the content of first aid step 2ck. However, i heard that there are a lot of errors in the book. Did you feel the same or is it not that big of a deal? (I understand that you really like this book and have used it and have become successful, but just curious and your response will help me decide a final resource. ) Cheers! :)

    • @DoctorRaga
      @DoctorRaga  8 лет назад +3

      Well yes, I have heard that there were a few errors in the First Aid book, however, that holds true for any academic book! It is very difficult to find an academic book that is completely error free. In my experience with FA, I never came across any major errors that affected my studying. And it turned out to be very helpful for my preparation for the exam! Hope this helps :)
